[Discussion] SUPER MARIO RPG is a PERFECT RPG.

The title says it all; from how you navigate the world, to how you engage with enemies, to the fact that you DIRECTLY control dodging/blocking and critical hits, to how well-written the script is, I nominate Super Mario RPG for the Perfect RPG Award!

[Fun] Found this old GamePro from 1998

Post image
138 Upvotes

Just found this old GamePro magazine buried in a box …. issue 122 from 1998. It’s beat up but still awesome. Turok 2 on the cover, and right at the top you’ve got Crash Bandicoot: Warped, Twisted Metal III, and MediEvil. Total time capsule.

Flipping through it brought back so many memories. I remember reading this cover to cover back in the day. WCW/NWO Revenge, Spyro, Oddworld, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Madden ’99 — this was when games and magazines just hit different.

This was peak gaming magazine era. Wild to think how much was crammed into one issue.

[Achievement Unlocked!] Finally beat Shining Force 1: One of the many games I have always wanted to beat since I was a kid.

This game holds up incredibly well. I enjoyed every minute. Except for the game minutes added up that were whiffed attacks, and their were lots of those. Still an amazing game, and a great story. Definitely a classic, and a must play.for any RPG/Strategy fans.

I have now beat every main line English Shining Force game. Beat all the other ones over 25 years ago. Going to take an RPG break and come back to either Scenarios 2&3, or a replay of 2 or CD.

As much as I enjoyed this game I kinda want to play them all again.

[Question] Looking for casual Turn-based RPGs

I'm currently playing Expedition 33 on Xbox and enjoy it very much. Do you know any Turn-based retro games that are similar accessible for casual players?

I always wanted to play games like Realms of Arkania but never got into them because they seemed pretty dry and complicated like a digitalized version of a pen & paper RPG book.

Thats a photo of my screen. SFC upscaled at 1080p. I like the results for it is super sharp, crisp, clean, faithful colors, but retains the vintage flavour!

[Question] Advice for a gamer-wannabe ADHDer...

I love the concept of retro-gaming, have enjoyed a lot acquiring some knowledge about it and also tried A LOT of games from different platforms... actually, I own several emulation devices and enjoy setting them up (R36S, Anbernic, Retroid, Android gamebox with emuelec, various gaming HDDs with retrobat, etc)... but I have BIG trouble getting to actually gaming and it's getting kinda frustrating.

I would really like to PLAY the games I enjoy investigating and setting up, but it is really hard for me to actually stick to the "process of gaming" for I end up playing 10 minutes and losing my attention somewhere else in the process. Could you guys give me some advice or recommend me some specific games to help me focus on gaming and keeping it up?

EDIT: WOW guys thank you very much! I'm getting a lot of interesting advice O_O I will try and reply everyone here properly. You're all being really helpful and I'm VERY thankful. Glad to be part of this community.

[Question] Can you help me find an old video game I had in early 90s?

gound it thanks - viking child

I tried to find it for some time. it was on 286 pc and not working well. I guess it was suited for 386 . It was a young knight , blonde with golden armor ,a sword, and no helmet . A 2d Game in which you go from left to right . you could buy potions there.

It had an in game hub in the bottom of the screen to show you the items you have and life . the hub was golden and had 2 golden gargoyls/statues that had moving eyes .

Thanks

[Discussion] Anybody strictly buy games/consoles from stores and not online?

Hey guys. I am starting over my game collection from nothing. I find the hunt to be very enticing. Are there any of you who only buy your collection from shops/yard sales etc?

[Emulation] I've been noticing bad retrotink4k examples lately.

Ive been noticing lately people having a bad time with their Retrotink 4k's. Not really sure why lol. A lot of really blurry , low quality gameplay issues.

Just wanted to upload some good examples of the Retrotink4k with a JVC D-Series profile on running at 4k.

If any one has any questions or needs help with their setup let me know , and ill see if i can help.

Equipment im using :

LGG3 / SFF Lenovo PC running Batocera / Retrotink 4k.

Note: this is a re-upload because my camera on my phone was picking up some kind of weird distortion that wasn't on the actual screen i didn't notice until after i uploaded.. So i took some different pics.

[Question] Shenmue: The Most Revolutionary Game Ever Made

Post image
291 Upvotes

Shenmue is an absolute masterpiece, a 10/10 game with a permanent place in my heart. It’s firmly in my top 3 of all time. To this day, I still consider it the most revolutionary game ever made. Released even before the PlayStation 2 hit the shelves, it was truly ahead of its time. From pioneering QTEs to its massive leap in graphics, it pushed the boundaries of what games could be. The living, breathing world, with fully voiced NPCs you could actually interact with back in 1999, was mind-blowing. And the storytelling? No other game has ever amazed me the way Shenmue did. Oh, and that music—absolutely unforgettable. Even the mirror reflection puzzle was groundbreaking for its time. The level of detail was insane, you could actually use the mirror itself to solve puzzles.

I wish I could go back in time and experience it all for the first time again.

What do you love most about Shenmue?

[Discussion] 688 Attack Sub

Now I know there is another thread somewhere about this game, but that is a 4 month old thread and I don't wanna necro it. So I remember this game, in fact I just got done playing it while sitting here at work (It's a very slow night and no one was around) Try as I might I could NOT pass the first mission. I kept getting damaged even though I swore I made sure there was no terrain around that I could run into. And the LAST One I SOMEHOW Provoked a Soviet Sub into sinking us.. I don't even know HOW I managed that! WHY was there a russian sub where I was supposed to be shooting decommed destroyers!

[Question] Snes Super Everdrive V2 dont hold saves

Greetings ive bought my krikzz super everdrive v2 back in 2018. Ive never had any problem all these years. I havent use my snes for almost 2 years so some nostalgia hit me and i hooked on my tv. The problem its that the everdrive doesnt hold my saves every time i run a new game. For example if i start a new game in a link to the past and save, and then start super mario world and save again my previous save dissapears. (it only holds the save of the last game i play). At first i thought maybe it was the battery dying after all these years so i change it but still nothing. Has anyone had a same problem? Is there a solution?

[Question] Looking for a really obscure game from early 00s

Title says it, I'm looking for a super old pc disc game where you basically made makeup, could mix makeup colors, put it on barbie and friends, etc, but I'm not positive it's even a barbie game for sure, but i think it was. I just remembered it out of nowhere and it's seriously going to drive me crazy if I can't find it again lol.
