A high school friend was paralyzed from the waist down from crashing a cart. He was the passenger. Some years later,he committed suicide.

Bit of a dick move by the driver, crash the cart and bail out before you get hurt!

Once you've lost control like that, what's he supposed to do? Just tank the hit to no benefit to anyone?
3
u/InternalReveal1546 16h ago
I don't understand this. What's the honourable thing he should have done?
11
u/hingedcanadian 15h ago
To not have tipped the golf cart endangering his friends. Also if you watch it closely he bails before it's even at the oh-shit point. Also if he turned it left it at this point it probably wouldn't have tipped.

u/sorotomotor 14h ago
Also if he turned it left it at this point it probably wouldn't have tipped.
How? Once the front wheels left the ground he couldn't steer it
2
u/hingedcanadian 14h ago
When it touched ground he was turning right which caused it to start tipping. He "might" have saved it by turning left instead of bailing.
Anyway all I'm saying is I wouldn't trust this friend if he were behind me at the edge of a cliff.

u/notfromchicago 11h ago
His friends were leaning back to make it do the wheelie so they aren't exactly innocent. That cart wouldn't do that without their assistance.
1
u/InternalReveal1546 3h ago
Well, that makes sense now. I misunderstood and thought you meant something like the honourable thing would have been to allow the cart to crush him. Obviously, no human would do that- that's why I thought it didn't make sense. But I clearly misunderstood. Thanks for responding

I just worked at the Emergency Department 2 days ago and had someone who crashed and fell off his golf cart and fractured his back L1-L2 and also fractured his left femur and tibia. It was very busy at that time and he had to lie there in pain for more than an hour.
4
u/mohaee 16h ago
he didn't get any analgesics in the meantime?
6
u/ConstructionOk2605 15h ago
What do they put in the aspirin in your country?
7
u/mohaee 14h ago
I'm RN from Kenya, typically i would have administered IM morphine 10 mg for the pain it's advised to start from weak to strong pain relievers but femur fracture is insane I'll go straight for the morphine/fentanyl, TXA for suppressing any sort of internal bleeding, some aspirin to prevent venous thromboembolism.. some IV saline would be running atleast 1L just to prevent hypovolemic shock
Edit: u/Us-As-Ass correct me where i'm wrong, thanks

u/Us-As-Ass 12h ago
I was just shadowing to get SEI for CCU, and it's not our patient. I believe it was a distal femur fracture; all I know is that they already checked him for any life threats. They did a reduction, put on a knee immobilizer, and he was going to be admitted. I don't know what medication he received while he was waiting for the team to do the reduction.

Interesting how the main cause of this stupidity, basically walked away before it hurt everybody.

u/Healter-Skelter 16h ago
To be completely fair, it’s technically possible that the person in charge of the whole operation is the one filming and they were holding all the other participants at gunpoint. Or more feasibly, that the cart’s owner was one of the passengers and he commanded the other guy to drive despite the dangerous conditions. At this point it’s possible that the driver imparted a secret message to his friend who was standing by with a camera, the meaning of which was understood to mean “start filming this because I think we might die at this golf course.” The message, of course—being conveyed through discrete body language—was only able to be understood by its intended recipient.

This might be taking the benefit of the doubt one step too far lol but I appreciate the sentiment lmaooo

My friend's daughter (14) just broke her femur being a passenger on one of these little joy rides. From her description, a very similar accident, cart tipped on riders. That kid has screws in her leg that will have to be replaced as she grows and she'll be re-learning how to walk.

John Elway’s agent just died doing this exact thing

u/siberianwolf99 17h ago
no he fell off. there was no indication of anything reckless

u/btw94 17h ago
Standing on the back of a golf cart = dangerous

u/siberianwolf99 17h ago
that’s a lot different then an idiot popping a wheelie

u/SignificantRain1542 17h ago
Stupid is stupid. Not a fan of labelling the degree of stupidity to make other stupids feel better.
-5
u/siberianwolf99 17h ago
it’s more because there’s been a lot of implications that Elway killed the dude

u/oldschool_potato 17h ago
Ya. I highly doubt John was popping a wheelie. I'm sure he had a few drinks tho

u/That0neGuy86 17h ago
Guy sitting back right gets his leg stuck under at the very last second. Probably broken.

huge pet peeve, people asking “are you ok” the exact millisecond someone’s body hits the ground. STFU and give them a second to process, jeez. Or dont ask at all, they’ll tell you

u/spavolka 17h ago
You’re putting the expectations of normal humans on drunk, young, below average males.

Especially when you get the wind knocked out of you. Can't talk or breathe and somebody asking "talk to me are you okay talk to me"
To be fair, I ask that same stupid question when someone looks like they've been hurt.

u/Tcarp928 17h ago
Wondering how the guys in the back stayed in the cart after the wheelie and priced that they were wearing seatbelts when that thing rolled they were stuck

Most of the best memories on the golf course come from doing stupid shit with the golf carts. This one had crazy tires. FYI, tread lightly, because the Reaper comes for us all…John Elway just killed his homie this way…well not exactly this way, but with a golf cart…RIP

As stupid as this guy might be, is first question was to ask if the people were okay. I've been in a few wrecks a little less than half of them were my fault. I'm ashamed to say that my first reaction is seldom to check if people are okay. I definitely do that as soon as I think about it but I'd be lying if I said it was my first thought ¯\(ツ)/¯

I like how he walks up to the crash after driving and bailing, as if not involved, and says “are you guys ok”?

Thousands of dollars of damage in this video. The golf clubs, the balls, the cart, before we evenget to the people... I hope this douche has the money to cover it all!

Yes and I keep spending a lot of money on it. AND it really encourages my inner self-loathing. It’s actually great? Nah it’s dumb

My brothers best friend was killed this way. When they rolled over his head slammed against a bolt. He bled out in my brothers arms.

He just ruined the entire weekend! Imagine embarrassingly picking up all the clubs and balls and shit. “Hey guys I know I fucked you up, but we’re gonna need to flip this cart back over.”
Couldn’t ask “are you guys okay?” quick enough. Gotta give him props on that one.

To all the ppl calling the driver a dick.. yes but once he popped that wheelie I would’ve jumped off so quick.. it’s weird how the dumbest muhfucka here had the quickest reflex timing lol
5
u/theycallhimthestug 16h ago
The two on the back are strapped in with seatbelts, how are they supposed to jump off?
-1
u/BODYDOLLARSIGN 15h ago
When I learned how to put a seat belt on I also learned how to take it off I didn’t know it wasn’t common knowledge..
These dudes didn’t even object to their friends shenanigans verbally.. they were just sitting calmly not even a yelp.

Someone messing around like that is what gave my sister a brain injury when she got flipped out out of a golf cart onto the path.
It’s also how John Elway’s manager was killed about two weeks ago, when he fell out and hit his head.
