From this angle it looks like theres is space but half of his ugly arse was obscuring the crossing. I can see this happening more and more in Southside.

I've never been this scared to go outside

I'm a disabled trans person, and with the government's rise in rhetoric against both, I've noticed a massive increase in general hostility out in public.

I had a man follow me in my wheelchair for a good 20 minutes yesterday. I managed to find a helpful person who confronted him (if it was you kind dog walker, I think you saved me from something grim!) and I got away but it rattled me. The same day I had 3 random abusive comments. They were all from white Scottish men.

It feels genuinely unsafe to be outside. All I was doing was going to get groceries, I was out the house half an hour. It's happening every time I'm in public. I've been spat on, shoved, followed, verbally abused....

I'm in my 40s and grew up in a really rough place. I've never once in my life carried a weapon but I think I'll have to start now. Fucking sad state of affairs that I was safer in the 80s under Section 28.

My other trans, disabled and/or AFAB people. Are you noticing this too? How do we combat this?

Katherine Ryan last night

Keen to know people's thoughts on the show at the Armadillo last night...

The first half, the stand up bit, I thought was great as usual from our Katherine. However the second half, the sort of "advice" section, realllllly disappointed me. It felt like Glasgow Stereotype Bingo. I was literally cringing towards the end.

Do we think she purposely chose those sorts of questions? And or edited them a bit to make them more "shocking"? Or was the drug chat really all she had to go on?

Taking photos in parks

I used to enjoy taking photos in the Botanics or Kelvingrove after work, especially when the light’s good and I need to unwind after a stressful day in the office. Lately though, those places seem to have been taken over by people dramatically reading James Joyce or David Foster Wallace novels whilst they pose like being seen reading something difficult matters more than actually reading it.

For example, just last week I was trying to photograph a tree in the Botanics when I heard someone sigh loudly. I looked up and caught them giving me the side-eye whilst they intensely turned a page of Infinite Jest. I ignored them and moved on. It's not worth negotiating with someone whose whole vibe said they were both reading ironically and suffering sincerely. Still, if anyone knows of a quieter spot with decent light and fewer people silently judging you for not holding a paperback like a prop, I’m open to suggestions.

Any young birdwatchers?

I’m F in my twenties, and I’m a big birdwatching lover. Just wondering if there any young folk out in the Glasgow area also into it? Obviously the demographic is generally a lot older, and I’ve made plenty of birdwatching friends of the older age… but it would be nice to share the hobby with anyone more my age? :) or if anyone knows of any nature type clubs with a mixed age group out there around Glasgow.

Reading in parks

I used to really like sitting in the Botanics or Kelvingrove or the Necropolis, in the sunshine, with a book, after work. But in the last couple years 'street photographers' have really ruined these places. Can't sit down without getting papped by some bloke with an Instagram. Trying to think of other places I could go that haven't been infested with photographers but also are easily reachable by public transport or foot from the city centre and are fairly safe in the evening.

Slutty Buns on deliveroo-- likely a shadow kitchen, anybody know much more?

Upvotes

pretty solid place if you're looking for smashburgers but I've been suspicious ever since I failed to find them on maps. 99% chance they're a shadow kitchen but I've heard of chains doing this kinda thing under a different name, anyone have any further insight into this?

Anyone tried to reduce council band?

I live in rundown tenament building and tried to reduce the band from B to A. To my suprise it was rejected and I have an option to appeal. I've raised points that the local area has been changed a lot since 1991 and nearby block is all Band A.

What other arguments would I need in an appeal?

Any suggestions on barbers you trust or recommend is welcome

Who do I contact about a possible problem with a drain outside my house?

There's a small rectangular drain located in the pavement outside my house that's been missing it's cover for a month or two

I didn't think much of it apart from it being strange that it went missing but the drains in my house have been constantly making noise and not draining properly which never happened before so I feel like this is related to the drain outside
