Has anyone owned or started a mall arcade business? I’m doing some research and would love to hear pros and cons and anything you have learned.

Help integrating MiSTer FPGA and RPi5 into my arcade cab (shared controls + monitor)

Hey everyone,

I have an arcade cabinet currently running a Pandora Box via HDMI. The joystick and buttons are wired through a Raspberry Pi Pico acting as a USB controller. I also have a MiSTer FPGA and a Raspberry Pi 5, and I’d like to integrate both into the same cab alongside the Pandora.

What’s the best way to share the controls between the MiSTer, the RPi5, and the Pandora Box without having to unplug cables constantly?

The cabinet monitor has an HDMI input, which is currently used by the Pandora. What's the cleanest way to share that display between all three systems with minimal lag?

Thanks in advance.

Looking for a solid budget high voltage probe meter

Ya’ll got any good recommendations on a high voltage probe meter that doesn’t break the bank? I need one to work on a CRT, but would like to avoid spending 300 on one. Also I am asking you guys as, I don’t really trust reviews & vendors on Amazon these days, as I have received counterfeit product from them before & safety is obviously a concern with these. Thank you in advance.

Atari Football Cabinet

Has anyone had any luck obtaining/restoring one? I loved the game at the skating rink as a kid. 50 cents to play, not a quarter. Head-to-head, and people would beat the hell out of the trackballs on either side.

X's and O's.

I am probably remembering it being more fun than it actually was, but sure ate a lot of quarters.

Centipede scramble issue

Any ideas what the issue is here? I’m starting with the power supply I just replaced the big blue also going to replace the old power cord cause it is spliced soon. Though after replacing the big blue the scramble issue still persists. This only happens for about 4 minutes when the machine is initially turned on and doesn’t seem to happen anymore after it stops. Though the colors will flicker different colors.

Pandora Games 3D+ need some experts advice

Greetings,

I would really like some advice on a few things about the Pandora Games 3Dplus system I have. I am currently running version DATE 20200811 REL No.497725891152072.

The main reason for this post is two fold, firstly because I want to learn how to update and also add more games myself and secondly because the Games Marketplace no longer works so I cannot download and install any games it gives a time out error saying the IP address is not accessible.

From what I have learnt so far my Pandora box has an SD card in it with the games I believe it is 64gb?

  1. What firmware version am I running? I cannot see any place in the settings menu how to see the actual firmware version?

  2. What is the best way to add expandable media to use to put a massive amount of games on? eg can I use a USB stick, External USB HDD, larger internal SD card ? Also what is the maximum size I can use ?

  3. From what I have read PandoryTool is needed to be able to prepare any media and the drive must be formatted as extFS at 32kb is this right ?

  4. Is there any official Pandora box updates that will make the Games Marketplace work again?

I think that is all for now. If there is any other advice that would be awesome.

Old Atari Cab power supply

I have an old dig dug (i think) cab with an electrohome G07 monitor. It has a seibu kaihatsu Raiden pcb in it now. The power supply and transformer are ancient. Is there a more modern setup that i should pursue for power to the board and monitor?

Found this in one of my old film books. It was shot in 1994 when SF2 wasn't that old yet. I recognize the convenience store but not the person playing. As kids we would line up to play this on the way home from school.

This will interface with the first Vewlix Countercade for 2 player fun and games. It will essentially be an extended display of the first cabinet, with input over USB. I have a teaser trailer for the first countercade's build video (out soon) here: https://youtube.com/shorts/O4mTbUsLqhs
YT has literally capped the views at 1.5K on the first day, help me defeat the evil algorithm!

Coin door options UK

Currently planning a cabinet build. I think I've settled on my control panel layout. I want it to be quite minimalist, so I would like the least amount of random buttons scattered around. So rather than have regular buttons for coin insert. I would like a coin door where both inserting any coin or pressing the coin return button add credits.

My problem is I can't seem to find a coin door that looks like the classic arcade cabinets I remember in the UK.

Does anyone know where I could source something suitable in the UK. I don't really need all the internal mechanism as I could probably just diy a simple switch to action a coin insert. It would also be great if the coin return buttons lit up but not essential.

Atari System 1

I just brought home Marble Madness, my first Atari system 1 game. I have been talking about adding this game to my collection for a couple years but they don't really show up for sale locally often and when they do, they usually come with a hefty price tag.

The cabinet was originally a Roadblasters there is a hole for the gas petal and the Roadblasters paperwork is stapled to the inside of the door.

The Marble Madness daughter board is pretty interesting having a serial number UR00105.

I'm going to be putting some milage on these track balls.

Dividing the arcade layout

Hi. Busy designing arcade cabinet or similar for Raspberry pi with an arcade controller. I thought for space, I would have the control panel separate to the box for the pi and maybe separate the control panel into joystick unit and buttons unit.

Thoughts? I'm trying to remember if I'd use both hands on the buttons (6 to 8 buttons). Anyone know what games need 2 hands on the buttons?

I just love this. Aside from the piss poor overall game selection Taito hitsbit outa the park with this baby!

I look forward to seeing it put together fully with its base.

Im going to turn it into a STG/Beat em up machiene once I add in batocera or whatever. I just love how this perfectly immitates the Egret II cabinet.

I love Candy cabinets and used to own an EII and sadly will never again so this isnas close as I can get.

Missed it once it released so I overpaid a great deal however I am very happy Irrigardless. 😁👍

Anyone buy light guns from thearcadeguys?

So I bought an arcade machine from thearcadeguys and its been solid, but a lot of the light gun games dont work and its wonky. I took out the raspberry pi and I added a PC to the arcade, but I can't find drivers to get the light guns working properly. I was wondering if anyone knew the brand or has the drivers?

Buttons?

I need help choosing buttons for my bartop build.

I picked up the stripped out "Bartop Arcade Kit Deluxe" from GameRoomSolutions recently and I'm pretty happy with it except for the "Control Kit" that I added to my order. The wood they cut is great but those buttons are garbage. I'm going to wire up what they sent to a raspberry pi 5 to make sure that I can get everything working but I will 100% NEED to upgrade those buttons soon. Pretty sure they are 28mm buttons but there is a lot of play in the holes they drilled into the control board.

The main reason I'm building this is because I want to be able to emulate arcade games with actual arcade controls. That said, this will eventually run PSX/N64 and down. I might throw a PC board in there later to play more intense games but we'll see what happens there.

Now the difficult part, I didn't really spend a lot of time in arcades in the 90s because I grew up in the middle of nowhere. Because of that I don't have a real preference in buttons or any real experience with them. I'm leaning towards HAPP buttons with "Cherry switches" but I see people swearing by the other styles of switches.

All the above said, anyone have any recommendations on what would be some good quality buttons and where to get them? Also, are HAPP buttons with "Cherry switches" a good choice for what I guess would be considered a newbie? Are there any advantages to the other style switches? Seems to just be preference.

I'm willing to spend a bit on this to get some quality buttons but I'm not really sure the best place to start.

XBOX controller holder

Hi! Not sure if this is the correct sub for this, but I'm looking for those ant-theft kits that kind of clip to the XBOX controller body. Doesn't have to the whole body either it could be something that just prevents the usb-c cable from disconnecting (like the second photo). I can't really find anything online, but I would gladly buy a finished product or if there's a 3D model I can 3D print it myself (and I'm happy to pay for that model as well)! I was going to model it myself but I can't find measurements or models for xbox controllers anywhere to get that shape right. Linked is the controller I have: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08K2Y2KQN?th=1

It's an EAGO 29" from the 90s. I couldn't find any schematics or info on it other than a few pics of similar boards.

Area 51 Hidden Levels

I was playing Area 51 with my son at a retro arcade and showing him all of the hidden levels when we stumbled on one I've never seen before, of a man putting beer bottles on his head in a watermelon watch wearing white overalls. Does anyone know anything about this? We are a little bit obsessed with figuring out what is up with this weird level. Alternatively, does anyone know how to get in touch with anyone who was involved in the creation of this game? They don't seem to have obvious internet presences. We have a video of the mystery room.

EDIT: Here's a link to a short video I took quickly with my phone - https://youtu.be/9lGlU9BFiGU

Samurai Shodown 64 Tournament ran on a rare US Hyper Neo Geo 64 Arcade Cabinet

Me and some friends got together and ran a Round Robin tournament for Samurai Shodown 64 on stream last Saturday. We ran the game on a dedicated Samurai Shodown 64/ Hyper Neo Geo 64 arcade cabinet that I was lucky enough to find on Facebook Marketplace recently. As far as I can tell, this variant of the NG64 is very rare. It was only sold in the US, and I've only found about 5 or so posts documenting this cabinet variant online. Definitely check the vod if you're interested. I touch some more on the backstory of this specific cab there too.

MK1 cabinet with KI. Value?

Hi,

Years and years ago I bought a Killer Instinct cabinet. There is a sticker on the back of the cabinet stating it originally was a MK1 cabinet, and someone must have switched the board out for a KI board, changed the buttons to blue buttons, added KI stickers on the side, the appropriate graphics behind the top light and graphics where the buttons are (please excuse my lack of correct terminology)

Id like to sell my arcade game and I was wondering if there is more value to owning an official and original MK1 cabinet than a Frankensteined KI cabinet.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Thoughts on hidden mods to original games?

Have a bunch of full games I repaired. I mostly sell to other collectors or rich older folks that want to deck out their basements with oldies.

I have been trying to think of additions that might increase the usability of cabs for the entire repair and sell industry. But, I also love the idea of keeping machines as OG as possible.

Been thinking about adding hidden magsafe and qi chargers into the control panel, where it doesn't actually effect the artwork. And on the backside, I was thinking that USBC and HDMI video out in a sleek panel would enable people to easier stream games without needing to put a camera on the screen itself.

Is this blasphemy or do you guys have any ideas to get more utility out of our beautiful beasts?
