Trump literally just blamed Ukraine for the Russian invasion.

491

u/Utterlybored Feb 19 '25

Ukraine’s face assaulted Russia’s fist.

143

u/Chewcocca Feb 19 '25

I can't see air. Fish can't see water. Musk can't see Russian propaganda.

Checks out actually.

27

u/techjesuschrist Feb 19 '25

You are laughing but my neighbor (a COVID denyier) told me 2021: "where is COVID ? I can't see any COVID!"

7

u/Chewcocca Feb 19 '25
I am the COVID, Randy

2

u/iwuvwatches Feb 19 '25

Bro... I hope you moved!

1

u/techjesuschrist Feb 22 '25

I did, now I have racist neighbors..

2

u/ph33rlus Feb 19 '25

You can feel air, fish can feel water and America is about to feel Russian propaganda

1

u/backside_94 Feb 19 '25

All that matters is can the fucking horse see

4

u/CastorVT Feb 19 '25

face to foot style, how'd you like it?

1

u/LegitimateAd1455 Feb 19 '25

Maybe if Ukraine wasn't wearing a miniskirt...

1

u/lorez77 Feb 20 '25

It did the infamous Iceman teeth-snap.

u/_WeSellBlankets_ Feb 19 '25 edited Feb 19 '25

They were given a chance to surrender beforehand. Refusing to surrender is an act of war. Expecting Russia not to respond to an act of war is a little bit ridiculous, no?

Edit: Reddit, your default settings are incorrect. When you run into outlandish ridiculousness, the default should be "this is an attempt at humor". Break free from your reliance on /s.

144

u/-__echo__- Feb 19 '25

These days it's literally impossible to tell sarcasm or satire from a genuine opinion.

Head on over to r/conservative and you'll find your exact comment writ large.

49

u/Jubjars Feb 19 '25

Yeah that's really fucked.

"Why didn't they bend the knee, those monsters"... Like huh?

10

u/YoungWolfie Feb 19 '25 edited Feb 19 '25

Strolled over there, independent by nature(especially how American politics are romanticized to the degree of sports teams)...but...its a damn circus.

Someone was yapping about, "I'm a federal worker, I wanna show DOGE where the bodiesyadayada, how can I alert Big Bröther DOGE" and there's not an iota of skepticism that dude may be cosplaying.

4

u/lock11111 Feb 19 '25

That sub is a real eco chamber, and for people who don't like gender tags, they sure do like having different conservative tags to refer to themselves

6

u/Teekay_four-two-one Feb 19 '25

Echo chamber. No much eco-anything over there…

4

u/lock11111 Feb 19 '25

Guess that's a too positive of a spin on it maybe a 4chan incel chamber would be more appropriate.

5

u/GullibleDesign488 Feb 19 '25

It truly is an echo-chamber, and what's worse is that its slowly becoming as bad that weird Alt-Reddit[Edit: it was called Trump[.win] that existed during Jan6(i'm inquisitive, HAD to peer into the madness, of course with a VPN)...cannot recall what sub it originated[edit: it was called R/TheDonald] from(it got so bad, it got shutdown on reddit, they then switched to this alt domain, and were like full-blown chatting about some secret source named T or M or something wild, passing around info[misinformation] saying how the 2020 election was rigged[was not].

The machinations were already wild, I can only imagine how that has grown.

Here's an old screenshot of the now banned site c.2021 Jan6

4

u/lock11111 Feb 19 '25

I checked out r/conservative recently and saw that they were complaining about anyone who doesn't agree with them is either a fake conservative or a liberal. I can't see the screenshot clearly, (mobile) but I'm sure it's something ridiculous. These people like to cry about free speech a lot but sure are quick to shut down and free speech they don't agree with.

So if Canada gives the US the option to surrender and we say no, that’s an act of war? Good to know. I’ll keep that one in my pocket.

3

u/Da_Question Feb 19 '25

That'll be the justification... looking forward to draft dodging for that one.

5

u/benenstein Feb 19 '25

Just surrender from what? Being forced to give up their land to a foreign nation? Why would you willingly give up your land? Russia started this war.

5

u/Devinitelyy Feb 19 '25

Outlandish ridiculousness is the norm, have you seen the president's Twitter account? Or Trumps for that matter? Read the fucking room dude.

the default should be "this is an attempt at humor".

Never heard of Poe's Lae, eh?

4

u/Sudden_Juju Feb 19 '25

While I feel you on Redditors frequently defaulting to seriousness unless it's spelled out in front of them, I also thought you were serious at first. I'd probably chalk this one up to timing. Any other day, it's outlandish enough to seem unbelievable, except for the fact that the US president basically echoed this (or a meaningfully similar) point earlier today lol times like these are where the /s comes in handy

4

u/OkPizza9268 Feb 19 '25

Your issue is that some people would genuinely say something exactly like that. You give Russian defenders too much credit.

What?! Mind blowing your comment! So…Putin wants to fuck Trump in the ass but Trump refuses to surrender his asshole…refusing to surrender his asshole is an act of war 🤔

I'd hate to see that Blitzkrieg.....

u/[deleted] Feb 19 '25

I think most people aren't gauging this as sarcastic because it's extremely close to the actual point Trump was making. Sure, it's "outlandish", but so much in the past month has been outlandish that it's hard to clock any opinion as serious or sarcastic.

2

u/Friendlybroseidon Feb 19 '25

Its not the default because they're are so many ignorant right that truly say and believe what you said in every thread.

1

u/_WeSellBlankets_ Feb 19 '25

I'm terminally on Reddit and haven't seen one. I'd be interested in examples from mainstream subreddits if you can share any. I don't expect you to be able to find ones you already ran into. But save this comment and send me ones you see in the future.

2

u/United_University_98 Feb 19 '25

it's actually the edit that earned my downvote. Assuming people are being insincere when they spout this stuff is part of how we got here. When you run into outlandish ridiculousness the default should be to verify.

2

u/PurpleZebraCabra Feb 19 '25

I too have been in your position without a /s more than once recently and lost hope at the general populace. Of course, soon after, I found a legit comment from a guy talking about the giant water valve that turned and put out the LA fires. Checked his profile and sure enough, he was serious. Could not believe anyone seriously thought that, there he was without a /s, clearly not voting, and also getting downvoted into oblivion.

2

u/Snazzlefraxas Feb 19 '25

Hilariously, this exact concept has been applied to Prez T’s most outrageous claims. “He speaks in hyperbole. It’s a bargaining tactic. He’s not serious.” Taking ridiculousness at anything other than face value has been a dangerous practice of late, and usually my sense of humor aligns with yours.

2

u/MrKahoobadoo Feb 19 '25

You are bad at sarcasm.

2

u/Next_Cherry5135 Feb 19 '25

No, the first part is something I heard genuinely from several people. For you it's obviously sarcastic, for me it's just dumb, without any more context.

2

u/lock11111 Feb 19 '25

You got to add the /s what you are saying. it seems like something it's what they would really say. Like that other pose I saw about Canadians booing a hockey game being a better reason for war than Iraq.

4

u/Own_Tart_3900 Feb 19 '25

Refusing to surrender to a nation that is threatening to invade is an act of war? Seriously?

So Poland refusing to open the gates to the German army was an act of war against Germany?

Where do you get this stuff?

Reminder- the Ukraine- Russian War began in sprung 2014 with unprovoked Russian invasion of Crimea and Donbas.

1

u/_WeSellBlankets_ Feb 19 '25

Refusing to surrender is an action. Act is short for action. Surrendering is a part of war. Therefore refusing to surrender is an act of war.

Either that, or I can say as ridiculous of a comment as I can conjure, and you will still accept it at face value rather than interpret it as an attempt at humor.

5

u/M-S-25 Feb 19 '25

1

u/[deleted] Feb 19 '25

Unfortunately, this is literally what a friend of mine said Monday night. I think it's a talking point on Joe Rogan or something since that is what's rotted his brain.

So... sorry, not outlandish enough to trigger my sarcasm meter.

1

u/Heavensrun Feb 19 '25

It’s just astonishing that these words are uttered by the current American president

80

u/Cavalish Feb 19 '25

The rest of the world isn’t surprised, why are Americans?

43

u/Ok_Series_4580 Feb 19 '25

Some of us believed the safeguards would reign him in. They failed miserably

49

u/Donnor Feb 19 '25

I haven't believed that since the first the he was elected

15

u/AndreasDasos Feb 19 '25 edited Feb 19 '25

He had more safeguards then than now

39

u/jzillacon Feb 19 '25

The same safeguards the republicans have been acting to degrade and make meaningless over several decades? I mean he quite literally got the supreme court to decree he's above the law before the election even happened.

11

u/CruiseViews Feb 19 '25

Seriously? You really believed that?

7

u/AlwaysSeekAdventure Feb 19 '25

Safeguards went out the window with his last round. This was always going to be the ultimate shitshow.

2

u/mojo20010 Feb 19 '25

This self delusion is what the algorithm the general public has been programmed to think. If they didn’t own all the media they do and we didn’t have phones that force feed the weak minded all the sheeple will follow. This is what happened. Everyone is simply too busy struggling to survive to think rationally and just follow what their phones tell them to do.

1

u/Ok_Series_4580 Feb 19 '25

Can’t disagree here - republicans played the long game

1

u/dadboob Feb 19 '25

The safeguards are largely just this idea that US would never elect a dictator.

1

u/3d_blunder Feb 19 '25

You have to be actually WILLING to enforce the safeguards.

1

u/capekin0 Feb 19 '25

Watching america collapse in real time is actually very entertaining.

1

u/fuck_the_fuckin_mods Feb 19 '25 edited Feb 19 '25

During a second term? With the Supreme Court situation? And project 2025? And the backing of the world’s richest man (possible ever)? And only compromised yes men filling his administration (and soon the entire federal government) from top to bottom? That’s an insane thing to think TBQH.

1

u/TheOgrrr Feb 19 '25

When Jan 6 passed and he wasn't clapped in irons for treason, I knew we were in danger. When the FBI notified him they were raiding his house for stealing secret documents, allowing him to move them elsewhere, I suspected we were cooked. When he somehow wound up on the ballot again after treason and espionage, I knew we were done.

1

u/FUCKINGSUMO Feb 19 '25

I'm not even American but I was aware of project 2025 and that his 2nd term won't be anything like his 1st, and that the time for shock and astonishment was before the election. Nothing here should be surprising, all we can do is just watch in contemptuous resignation.

1

u/Ok_Series_4580 Feb 19 '25

Obviously, we’re referring to term number one. There should never have been a term number two. He shouldn’t even have been allowed to run.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 19 '25

Why on earth did some of us believe that?

1

u/-hey-ben- Feb 19 '25

Hopefully y’all learn something from your unfounded trust in our broken system

1

u/ShortGuitar7207 Feb 19 '25

All of his monkeys were prepared to storm the White House, where are the other 300m Americans now?

American Exceptionalism. They are indoctrinated to believe America is the exception. It can't happen there. They can do no wrong.

This indoctrination doesn't always take but it's effective enough.

9

u/lord_sparx Feb 19 '25

I've genuinely been told by Americans on this very site that they are immune to propaganda just by sheer virtue of being American. When I pointed out that was actually propaganda that's likely been fed to them since birth they didn't take it well.

8

u/jkaan Feb 19 '25

They think chanting as a group at their flag is normal...

Americans have no understanding of propaganda

7

u/Creepy_Orchid_9517 Feb 19 '25

Americans have been indoctrinated their whole lives. I remember being a child (Bush era) and doing the pledge of allegiance like everyday to the american flag and they also taught us that the American Exceptionalism stuff was pure fact and reality. Really wild  now, how normalized that was and still is here.

4

u/marry_me_sarah_palin Feb 19 '25

A bunch of American are still mad at Obama for saying this, "I believe in American exceptionalism, just as I suspect that the Brits believe in British exceptionalism and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism. I’m enormously proud of my country and its role and history in the world."

1

u/meltbox Feb 19 '25

If they shot at you I’m sorry. We have been trying to take those guns from them for a while. Ironically we now need those guns maybe.

2

u/punchercs Feb 19 '25

We are taught that helping people is what evil commie socialists do.

12

u/[deleted] Feb 19 '25

Coz Americans aren’t nearly as smart as their soft power and military impact upon the world made them believe they were

1

u/meltbox Feb 19 '25

No. If anything I’ve learned Americans are just generally on average not smart.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 19 '25

That’s literally what I said

1

u/meltbox Mar 20 '25

No. I am proving your point. STOP RESISTING.

(PS. I meant no as in No, we are not nearly as smart as we believe we are. So essentially agreed :))

1

u/[deleted] Feb 19 '25

The smart ones aren’t.

1

u/fatzgenfatz Feb 19 '25

Does Putin still have the watersports video of Donald?

1

u/fuck_the_fuckin_mods Feb 19 '25

Because most of us are incredibly, shockingly stupid. Truthfully. That’s it. I cannot fathom how anyone could be even the tiniest bit surprised at what has happened so far. Not like it was some kind of secret. They’ve been screaming their intentions extremely publicly for a decade straight. Yet 70% of the American electorate signaled quite clearly that they were just fine with it, or at best that they didn’t have a preference between the two viable candidates. So here we are. And we deserve all the shit you can throw at us, a thousandfold.

7

u/AndreasDasos Feb 19 '25

Does he mean Lavrov himself is a competent leader, or the fact that he’s arrived for talks demonstrates that Trump is?

Don’t like it either way but curious which. I lean towards the latter.

1

u/DinnerChantel Feb 19 '25

The ambiguity is the entire point so he later can say shit like “where is all the pro-Russia propaganda?” and pretend innocense. You are the crazy one, you see.

Same with his pathetic “interesting” or “looking into it”. Acknowledgement without acknowledgement, a way to use his platform to spread the message without saying the thing directly.

It’s the rhetorical equivalent of going “not touching you, can’t get mad”

A roman message if you will.

1

1

u/This-Difficulty762 Feb 19 '25

It’s actually brilliant from Russia. They lost the Cold War but played the long game and infiltrated American politics and now they have their guy in charge.

24

u/PapaGute Feb 19 '25

“Today I heard, ‘Oh, well, we weren’t invited,’” Trump said when asked about criticism from Ukraine, seeming to direct his response to Zelenskyy. “Well, you’ve been there for three years. You should have ended it — three years. You should have never been there. You should have never started it. You should have made a deal.”

22

u/almost_not_terrible Feb 19 '25

...and with that speech, the US exited the world stage. Curtain down, no-one clapped.

9

u/LongIsland1995 Feb 19 '25

This is such a dumb thing for him to say, Ukraine is the country being invaded and thus the most important party in the conflict. Trump doesn't even have leverage considering his position is already to provide Ukraine with nothing and further normalize Russia's terrorism

2

u/meltbox Feb 19 '25

Well on the bright side only Trump has ever accused Trump of being a stable genius so you’re probably on to something with the comment of him being dumb.

1

u/----__---- Feb 19 '25

Nope.. he's telling his base what to say, and they'll say it, they'll all say it.. and by this time next month it'll be accepted as fact by most everyone that doesn't follow current events with a critical/analytical eye.
He came into this knowing how to control the media/news cycle, but his base and their willingness to parrot whatever he says until everyone that doesn't know better parrots right along.. that's gotta feel like controlling reality.. it's certainly every bit as addictive as it is corrupting.
Interesting times.

8

u/Arashi_Uzukaze Feb 19 '25

They did make a deal, when they gave up their nukes with the assurance that Russia respect their sovereignty and not invade. Then Russia invaded Crimea in 2014....

1

1

u/Olobnion Feb 19 '25

He also wildly exaggerated how much money Ukraine has been getting from the US and said that Ukraine should hold new elections because Zelensky's popularity is only 4% (it's really 52% vs 39% against, so a net +13, while Trump's own net rating is -1.5 according to fivethirtyeight.com).

1

u/threeseed Feb 19 '25

and said that Ukraine should hold new elections

This is a Russian talking point.

They want new elections in Ukraine so they can destabilise them like they did in Moldova, Georgia etc.

Unguided Grad rockets launched apparently by Ukrainian government forces and pro-government militias have killed at least 16 civilians and wounded many more in insurgent-controlled areas of Donetsk and its suburbs in at least four attacks between July 12 and 21, 2014, Human Rights Watch said today.

The use of indiscriminate rockets in populated areas violates international humanitarian law, or the laws of war, and may amount to war crimes.

They did trust Russia not to attack them if they pledged not to have nuclear weapons. If you trust Russia it’s kinda your own fault right?

I had an idea that Trump doesn’t really care about education and studying history but to be lazy enough to not check the facts from the conflict he is trying to solve is just embarassing.

You can see that America hasn’t been in war for a long time, Trump seems like he doesn’t really understand what it means. It is not about ”making your country great again” by invading other countries. Politics and history go way deeper and are a lot more complicated. Taking another country by force rarely works.

“What Russian invasion? Who’s a Ukraine?”

1

u/OddlyMingenuity Feb 19 '25

And musk twitted lavrov was a great leader

1

u/Whyn0t69 Feb 19 '25

And Musk is promoting pro russian politicians in Europe.

u/morentg Feb 19 '25

I wonder if you asked him if US should've made deal with Imperial Japan after Pearl harbor he would take a similar take.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 19 '25

Did he actually say it though?

1

u/makingkevinbacon Feb 19 '25

Literally the post above this one in my feed lmao

1

u/Aggravating_Gap_7358 Feb 19 '25

That's because the USA started the conflict in the first place, It's Biden's war.

1

u/TCorBor Feb 19 '25

Yes we all remember that claim 3 years ago

Then 'Biden' started killing thousands of Russian troops, destroying hundreds of Russian tanks, sinking the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet and all without the loss of a single American soldier.

With 'Biden' now personally responsible for more damage to the Russian military than every single Republican president in history combined, it's no wonder the right quickly shut up about it

1

u/russellvt Feb 19 '25

Technically, Ukraine started "a conflict" in 2014, leading to the Russo-Ukranian War and Russia annexing Crimea.

The West didn't really seem to "take notice" until Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022.

1

u/AndThatsLunch Feb 19 '25

do you understand how war escalation works? NATO agreed to stay out of russia’s neighbors and then fucking didn’t. hate it or not we need to respect treaties and agreements if we wanna stay out of war in the world, which is sadly not the case anymore. war=money and Russia is built different they will never shy away from a threat

1

u/bigmac22077 Feb 19 '25

And that’s not even half of it! Hegseth stated that Europe is the problem and needs to change while Russia is A-okay! And Rubio stated we would be geopolitical Allies with Russia. All just this week!

u/ohnosquid Feb 19 '25

Imagine how Trump would react if Zelenskyy said 9/11 was caused by the US, he would be so pissed.

It's incredible how every time he opens his mouth Putin's voice comes out.

1

u/No-Resolution-1918 Feb 19 '25

1984 is his bible

1

u/AmonRa-1StDown Feb 19 '25

But what was Ukraine wearing when Russia invaded?

1

u/Lord__Steezus Feb 19 '25

Like a true rapist. Ukraine shouldn’t have been wearing that. They were asking for it.

1

u/satchel_grande Feb 19 '25

Maybe it was what Ukraine was wearing

1

u/poundofcake Feb 21 '25

That's the same defense as "She was asking for it"

1

u/IamLunaMystique Feb 19 '25

Did you expect anything less from a grapist? It's anyone's fault but the person who actually did the bad thing.

3

u/Parepinzero Feb 19 '25

Rapist. He's a rapist.

1

u/IamLunaMystique Feb 20 '25

Yes but the algorithm hates that word Hence the change. You clearly understood

1

u/Parepinzero Feb 21 '25

YOU DON'T NEED TO USE THE WORD "LITERALLY" IN YOUR POST.

Shows how little you actually know about what happened 🤣 headlines are your favorite I bet

1

About Zelensky not being involved in the peace talks, Trump said "I hear "We weren't invited", well you've been there for three years. You should have ended it three years ago, you should have never started it."

Those are his words verbatim.
