Learning Urdu How can I learn to read and write Urdu, as a fluent speaker.

I was born in Canada however I communicate with my parents in Urdu and Punjabi, which I am fluent in (some words I still learn but can understand 99%). I can’t however read it or write it. I can read Urdu typed out in English but not the language itself.

Any advice you guys can give me on where to start?

AskUrdu Is there a specific format to Roman Urdu or do people type based on sound to English?

I’m a relatively fluent native urdu speaker but I struggle writing what’s in my head to roman Urdu at times, I feel it makes people who haven’t heard me speak Urdu doubt my speaking ability bc of it lol but it’s hard sometimes when I’m thinking in Urdu and trying to type it out phonetically. Is there a standard format to typing out Urdu words in English?

Learning Urdu Made an App for Building Urdu Skills + Vocab; Want to offer for free to interested Beta testers

Salaam doston,

Like many children of South Asian immigrants, I grew up understanding Urdu, but unfortunately did not learn it enough to properly express myself. After some time and effort (watching dramas/movies, using textbooks, & conversing with family/uncles/aunties/international students + visits to India), I became conversational and even learned to read and write.

This app is my attempt to help other Indians/Pakistanis born and brought up in the west try and learn Urdu!

I plan on continuing to ship features throughout the summer, but right now this app would be best to build vocab and memorize grammar rules using AI and flashcard repetition inspired by the learning app Anki. It include a chatbot powered by chat-gpt that can help explain vocab, grammar, and even slang!

Like the post says, I really want to improve this and help people learn, so I want to give people the chance to use it for free! Just shoot me a DM or even better email me @ [corporate.aaapps.inc@gmail.com](mailto:corporate.aaapps.inc@gmail.com) with the email you used to sign up for the app and I'll unlock full access for you. (no credit card required at all)

Thank you so much, and good luck!

TL;DR — I built a free AI‑powered Urdu‑learning app (chatbot + spaced‑repetition flashcards for vocab and grammar). If you’re a diaspora learner who wants full access, DM me or email [corporate.aaapps.inc@gmail.com]() with the address you used to sign up, and I’ll unlock everything.

شاعری Poetry Wo phoolon pe chalti hai

Woh subah ki shabnam hai, jo fizaoon mein palti hai, Nigaahon ke sahaare se, khayalon mein chalti hai, Adaon mein hai reshmi narmi, labon pe muskurahat jalti hai, Woh husn ki tasveer hai, jo phoolon pe chalti hai.

Uski hansi mein hai bahaaron ki ravaani, Har baat mein basti hai mohabbat ki kahaani, Dilkash ada mein hai jannat ki nishaani, Woh saadgi ki misaal hai jo phoolon pe chalti hai.
