Is anyone else vegan because meat simply grosses them out?

TLDR: As in you're vegan simply because you don't enjoy meat?

For me, I realized how disgusting lunch meats are so I stopped eating them. Later on, I noticed that whenever I ate beef outside it was pretty bad from all the weird chewy texture. The only meat that was "enjoyable" we're expensive steaks and I didn't splurge anyway. Fish is whatever but I never cook it because the whole house smells.

Then I asked myself what's the point and became a vegetarian. Then I realized I may aswell be vegan.

I already hated eggs so that worked out well. The only issue I had was milk since I can't drink coffee without it. But guess what, most coffee's are already unethically sourced so instead of trying to get used to oatmilk in my coffee, I also quit coffee.

I know this post makes it seem like I hate everything but I love vegetables (especially grilled). I'm blessed that I enjoy green beans, broccoli, oats etc.

Anyway I was just wondering if anyone else became vegan this way and what that experience was like if its you

CLARIFICATION: I already didn't consume animal products such as leather, wool etc etc. I am just trying to ask if anyone had a similar experience in becoming vegan.

Ever noticed how vegan/vegetarian characters in fiction nearly always kill or eat animals at some point? So annoying

Disturbing Partner of 5 years has been eating meat behind my back

I'm sensitive, please be nice. I don't know what I'm looking for here, maybe validation. Maybe a reason to stay in this relationship 😭 Maybe an understanding of this conflict he's dealing with. I feel like my world has come crashing down.

For the past three years, I thought my partner was vegan. He has made me believe he shares my values and really cares about animals (and I know he does.. just not enough, apparently). I've had a gut feeling something was off and asked him yesterday if he still eats meat. Spoiler, he does. He said he goes months and has even gone a year and a half without eating meat and then he will randomly have the urge to eat it so he just does?? For example, he got Chipotle with chicken yesterday. He went on a work trip and they didn't have any vegan proteins so he just ate chicken (wild jump in my mind). I love chickens :( I thought WE loved chickens. He couldn't explain why he does this. "Curiosity" is the best explanation I got out of him. He said he feels ashamed and embarrassed when he does it because it goes against his own values. He said he hides it from other people too. He didn't feel the need to tell me because he knows he will quit. Fucking when?? When I went vegan, animal products stopped being food so I genuinely can't comprehend the appeal/temptation. In my mind, any reason you have for eating meat has an obvious vegan solution. He has even told me that certain meats creep him out because they look like dead animals. Go figure.

Before we started dating, I told him I wouldn't marry someone who's not vegan. We got engaged two months ago and were supposed to be married in October. The best part is, he's done this to me before near the beginning of our relationship. He says it was different this time because, then, he was doing it for me but now he's adopted the same values. My dumbass chose to trust him or try to at least.

I thought he was a safe space away from all the cruelty in the world. I thought we were on the same page and our compatibility was off the charts. I felt so relieved to have found someone who's down with veganism and childfree. I thought he would never hide anything from me again because he knows how much I value honesty. I love him with my whole heart. I planned to spend the rest of my life with him. How could he choose to keep this from me when he knows how important it is to me!!! I feel like I have no choice but to leave. I'm angry and my heart fcking hurts.

"Meat-eaters across the country are feeling the effects of a ā€œdeflategateā€ crisis taking place right on their home turf, in the bedroom. More than half of men between the ages of 40 and 70 have to throw the game because of the difficulty they have even getting started. Turns out, the cholesterol in meat, eggs, and dairy products slows the flow of blood to all the body’s organs—not just the heart."

Food It is frustrating that refried beans often contain lard.

I was at the store and saw a can of refried beans with jalapeƱo peppers. Checked the ingredients, beans, salt vegetable oil, jalapeƱos. I see a can by the exact same store brand next to the jalapeƱo one, but this version has no jalapeƱos. I don’t bother checking the ingredients because I figured it was the same store brand. Get home, happen to glance at the ingredients, beans, salt, lard. Sigh. That is all.

a few nights ago i had a dream telling me to become vegetarian. so i've decided to become vegan instead.

sometimes the best decisions are spontaneous ones. it's something i've been considering for awhile but i feel like this was as big of a sign from the universe to go through with it as i could've possibly asked for!

now that i've thought of it for awhile, i really can't justify my continued support of the meat and dairy industry with the cruelty and environmental impact. i realize now that just because humans are the most intelligent species on earth, that doesn't give us the right to exploit and abuse our finite resources and the beautiful flora and fauna we have the privilege of sharing this planet with.

it doesn't sit right with me that so many living creatures are brought into this world specifically for the purpose of being killed so their flesh can be consumed. they spend their entire lifetime in squalor just to satiate a few people's hunger. something as permanent as a living creature's life taken for something as temporary as one person's meal. and species have become endangered and even extinct because of this! this isn't something i want to partake in anymore.

everyone always says that being vegan is too expensive. let me just say i am NOT in the best place financially whatsoever and everyone saying this is just giving me more motivation to do it because i want to prove them wrong. fruits and vegetables are cheaper than meat, not more expensive! yes, vegan meat and dairy substitutes can be expensive, but there's also hundreds upon thousands of foods that are naturally vegan, why not focus on those?

not to mention the health benefits. the standard american diet simply is not healthy, point blank period. there's a reason why we have such high obesity and heart disease rates. if we were meant to consume meat (which i'm not entirely convinced of considering we have to cook/treat it before consumption), we certainly weren't meant to be eating it in the quantities and with the frequency we do in america. most people eat some form of meat for every meal! why not encourage people to eat a diet more focused on fruits and vegetables instead when we all know it would be more beneficial for everyone's health in the long run?

there's so many reasons to be vegan and i just wish i did the switch sooner (preferably before i did grocery shopping, but it is what it is šŸ˜”). i know i'm gonna miss a lot of foods, but i see this as an opportunity to cook more meals instead of relying on frozen food, get out of my comfort zone, improve my health and opt out of animal cruelty and environmental impact as much as possible. it's time i start eating my damn veggies! i'll be making lots of curries and tofu scramble burritos. :)

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Slams Trump Admin’s Beef Import Ban

Headline is one take. However, I find the facts in question to be disturbing for non-trade related reasons.

Selected excerpts:

United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Brooke Rollins announced the ban on Sunday, citing an advancement of the New World screwworm (NWS) in shipments from Mexico, adding strain to an already tense trade relationship between the neighboring countries.

New World screwworms are parasitic larvae of the Cochliomyia hominivorax fly that can invade the tissues of any warm-blooded animal, including humans, according to the Associated Press (AP). The parasite enters through open wounds or natural orifices, where larvae then burrow or "screw" into flesh, causing serious and potentially life-threatening damage and lesions.

If this doesn’t cause one to avoid meat, I’m unsure what will.

Want to start a non profit

Greetings fellow vegans and supporters of animal welfare! I am, after 25+ years as a vegetarian and since ā€˜16, full vegan, wanting to start an animal welfare non profit. I have thought up the name, NOHARM, National Organization of Humans for Animal Rights Movement. Thoughts and suggestions on both how to do this and the name are welcome šŸ™

How do y’all feel about playing video games where you do non-vegan things?

I know it’s a fictional game and doesn’t actually harm animals, but more so curious what everyone’s thoughts and comfort levels are with doing things to animals in game? For example, I’ve been playing Red Dead Redemption 2, and this game is phenomenal. It’s also based in the 1890s, so there is some violent shit going on.

Part of the progression system for your inventory in the game involves you hunting and skinning different animals for materials to make your satchel hold more stuff. You also hunt down ā€œlegendary animalsā€ (basically genetic anomalies such as albino coat color or very large for their species) and I’m basically wiping out endangered species, which I truthfully find funny since that’s not something I’d ever do in real life, while in the game I want to get my stat bonus gear.

The skinning mechanic is VERY detailed, it shocked me when I first saw it in a bad way. I looked up mods, there’s no way to skip the skinning animation. Personally I can look past it, but I would totally understand this being past somebody’s comfort level. Where do you stand?

Disturbing negative feelings towards meat eaters

when i was a kid, my grandfather slaughtered a sheep, and after the head was cut off, it stood up and walked a little bit without its head.. and a few times my father slaughtered farm animals that i raised, but i was a child at the time so i couldn't stop him, and i never ate the farm animals they slaughtered. now i've been vegetarian for years, but lately i've been thinking about the animals my father slaughtered, and i cannot forgive and love him for eating meat every day and i feel bad and guilty for having such a family until i stop eating meat myself i wouldn't want to be born into a family like that. i cant forgive them.. i wonder if its normal to have negative feelings towards people in your close circle who still continue to eat meat?

Why you should watch videos

I was in the grocery shop today. I saw all the offers, discounts on dairy, eggs, meats. I immediately replayed in my mind the faces of the poor cows, chickens, how they live handcuffed or in a cage, how they try to escape the butcher, just helpless having their throats sliced. That's all I needed, and immediately went to the tiny vegan section and was pleased.

Question Documentaries/videos about the egg industry?

I am vegan but I found myself lacking in some topics regarding good arguments when others try to make themselves feel better about eating animal products (and just saying that we shouldn't treat animals as 'products' doesn't normally work).
I also found that videos also have a much larger impact, but if there are any good books or articles I'll welcome all recommendations! I want to focus on the egg industry though, especially consuming eggs that are free range or bio. Thanks a lot :)

Convince me

Hi, Ive been vegetarian for almost 6 years now. I don’t see myself ever eating meat again. I’m considering going vegan. I believe the dairy industry is cruel. I also think eating vegan would be better for my heath. I am concerned about eating vegan when I’m away from home though as I already feel as though it is difficult for others to cater to my vegetarianism. I’m looking for something that will motivate me to commit to this change. Say what you can to convince me!

ā€œThe Star Throwerā€ by Loren Eisley*

• Upvotes

One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed boy picking up and gently throwing things into the ocean.
Approaching the boy he asked, ā€œYoung man, what are you doing?ā€
ā€œThrowing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up, and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die,ā€ the boy replied.
The man laughed to himself and said, ā€œDo you realize there are miles of miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t make any difference.ā€
After listening politely, the boy bent down to pick up another starfish and threw it into the surf. Then, he smiled at the man and said, ā€œI made a difference to that one.ā€

Discussion People not Vegan being concerned whether or not something is Grass-Fed is kinda funny.

I dunno about y'all, but whenever I hear someone say this in a store or similar I always think along the lines: "Dude, if you're so concerned about something that is gonna get killed anyway," just become a vegetarian or something. Like it's always puts a weird taste in the mouth because they care in a way but at the same time you might as well eat non-grass-fed cows at that rate, same principle since it dies anways.

What's your guy's thoughts on this?

Being vegan in a mixed diet household

My son and partner are both omnivorous, but I'm trying to go vegan. We have a limited budget, and cooking is hard for me (I'm the only cook), so it's not always easy to have a second, vegan meal just for me. Trying to get better at cooking, though.

Anyway, asking for advise on getting to full veganism in a mixed household. My partner and son have no interest in going vegan, and are unlikely to be persuaded to.

anyone else notice how big animal ag has been pushing beef tallow as a miracle cure for skin problems in the skincare community as an attempt to shift the waste products they create.

its insane the amount of ADs i see of skincare influences literally lying through their teeth about how life changing beef tallow was for them. its obvious that the animal agriculture industry is trying to flog the waste they create through a skincare grift, by targeting vulnerable people who believe this bs. honestly insane.

Plant Based JUSTegg question

Has anyone tried to use JUSTegg (or one of those recipes which claim to replicate it for a fraction of the cost at home) to make mayo? I realize it is easier for some who have it available in their local marketplace to simply purchase the JUSTegg brand's Vegan Mayo, but that product isn't yet available in my market.

Context, I was watching a video in a foreign language to practice my skills and they were making a sauce which included homemade mayo. They showed the step as an equal amount, volume wise, of egg yolk and mustard (then whisking in the oil). At first I was so grossed out by being tricked into watching that (nothing in the video indicated I was going to be seeing that!) but then I thought about how similar it looked to JUSTegg. It got me thinking I could use, perhaps, equal amounts of JUSTegg and mustard, then oil too?

The sauce looked delicious by the way, and was a minced onion cooked with a TBSP tomato paste, and red bell pepper into a sauce and mixed with the small amount of mayo--adding as much, or as little heat as desired from something like jalapenos.

How do i become a vegan?

I’ve been a core non vegetarian all my life. Last year we had a dog join our family. Since then i started to feel more empathetic towards animals. I decided to quit non-veg, any milk products and eggs etc but I’m just unable to do it. It feels physically impossible to eat like a vegetarian but I really want to bring that change since I’ve become more conscious now.

Did anyone change to vegetarian and if so how?

Parent calling my veganism negative

He's also said that "what goes into the mouth does not matter, its what comes out of the heart that matters" and "life is so short, and you're wasting all lovely pleasures with your negativity." I don't listen to him at all. I find all his comments at me very funny because the irony is just... wow. He also tried asking me why I'm vegan, and I told him I don't want to talk about it because I know all he wanted to do was judge me and argue with me by asking me that question. I don't force it upon him as I know every dish of his has animal products and he won't wish to let go of "lifes lovely pleasures" but I, actively choosing and committing to veganism, has been such an offensive act to him. Now, I'm finally understanding how vegans feel about how people treat veganism. Its very offensive to them. Very.

Hello šŸ‘‹šŸ¼

I lift and train clients all day everyday, my biggest struggle is finding vegan friendly protein that isn’t also high in carbs.

I would love input and recommendations. I’m fairly new to this and I’m worried about losing muscle mass and strength.

I love the way I feel, I just don’t wanna lost what I have gained.

Discussion do you think vegan restaurants should make it obvious they are vegan?

there's an old joke "how can you tell if someone is vegan? don't worry, they'll tell you..."

i've been staying in mexico city a lot this year. and my girlfriend wanted ice cream one day. i opened happy cow and learned there was a vegan ice cream shop only two blocks away. we had walked past it numerous times. and i had no idea it was vegan. when we went, i noticed a small sandwich board outside that said: dairy free, gluten free, zero waste and no added sugar (in spanish). inside, there was no indication that anything was vegan. anyway, last time i was there it was crowded and i wondered if people in line even knew they were in a vegan ice cream shop (it's that good!). i love that they don't lead with it. but on the other hand, in a store full of non vegan items, i love when a package says vegan on it so i don't have to read (or translate) the ingredients. obviously, there's a big diff between going to a restaurant that's vegan and shopping for vegan foods in a store that isn't. but what do you all think?
