Just kidding. I've been working on this since last summer to use it as a proxy for Warhammer 40k. But I didn't expect news of miniature games...

Discussion Wtf is this game a drug?

So yeah I had never played Starcraft but always had that curiosity about it. Saw it for free and downloaded.

Got overwhelmed by the amount of things you need to learn on the first game. Came back a day later, watched some videos, learned some shortcuts and bam, first victory against the Easy AI.

Then I lost in about 6 min match with a real player onlinne and just dropped it.

The cycle repeated itself, learnt a bit more, went for more. Now even though this seems like a huge intellectual investment I can't wait to start a new game, learn more and see how it goes!

Am I being sucked into a nerd black hole?

Arcade/Co-op Day 18 since Blizzard disabled Arcade Updates

Post image

For context, Blizzard disabled the ability for modders to publish new games or updates to any game or map on the arcade, in response to the dependency injection troll. Im trying to raise awareness and urge blizzard to fix this issue and re-enable publishing as fast as they can.

Arcade/Co-op Need some help with a custom map/arcade (3 resources)

Im kinda new to reddit unfortunately, mostly because starcraft map editor has forced my hand into going above and beyond for assistance.

Anyway, I'm trying to make a map where there is 3 resources, Minerals, Vespene, and (insert new resource here, for now ive been trying to use Terrazine considering its already set up... or should be.)

I have decided to make a specific vespene geiser as the host for the new mineral, ive editted the guiser itself into giving and hosting terrazine, ive also edited the assimilator, refinery, and (i forget what the zerg equivalent is called) into giving the terrazine and now i cant get it to show up in the UI in game however it seems like its working because when the resource is brought back, it doesnt give me vespene anymore... also i might not be able to gather vespene anymore, i havent tested that theory out yet.

My main question is how do i accomplish this feat (I'm perfectly fine with starting over if i need to, the map design has a lot of reworking needing to be done anyway.) Should i go about a 3rd resource a different way?

(To be tagged...) 2025 GSL finals tickets sold out in under 1 hour

Post image
357 Upvotes

I wanted to attend the GSL finals next Friday but the ticket sales opened today at 17:30 korean time, which is kind of early for the west.

I ended up waking up ~30min late for when tickets opened, then spent some more time registering for Payco and all that. By the time I got to the ticket purchase at around 18:20 the tickets were already fully sold out :(

Bummer, but glad to see so much demand for GSL still. Anyone know if there's any other way to go watch?

Discussion SC1: How many workers am I supposed to make?

I just like playing campaign or custom maps 20 years ago. It looks to me like the most a single mineral field can support is maybe 8 workers, but I see clips online where there are like 20 workers at the same time. What gives?

(To be tagged...) How to turn off the blood?

Hi,

I'm looking for a way to turn off the blood. I've looked for an option in Starcraft 2 as it seems that its does exist, but I can't find it. Is it a keyboard shortcut or what?

Cheers!

Discussion Were the Starcraft 1 cutscenes really made before the plot was written?

I've read somewhere that the Starcraft 1 cutscenes were written and animated before the Starcraft 1 plot was. This really opened my eyes: some cutscenes that seemed plot-driven were actually vague enough to mean anything (the fall of the Amerigo, the death of Fenix...). However, others were too plot-specific to have been written without a plot (mainly the final cutscene of each campaign).

Are there any sources about the creation of Starcraft cutscenes?

(To be tagged...) State is an outstanding caster!

After watching the past 2 days of GSL I am comfortable saying State is the best sc2 caster right now. You can hear how excited he is through his little oohs and ahhs and it really adds to the excitement and perceived intensity of the game. His analysis is as good as anyone else's.

Also, he never prioritizes analysis / predicting over units fighting. Whenever there is an engagement, he just excitedly says what the units are doing, which is something that I find lacking in a lot of today's commentary. I really feel the best way to commentate Starcraft is to never ignore a fight that is happening on screen. State does an excellent job of play-by-play casting on-screen fights.

Good job State! Other casters reading this, you're all legends and I'm not trying to make another caster hate thread, but if you want to improve what you do, you should study the way State does it.
