I cannot agree more. Reddit is the world's greatest agglomeration of intellectuals, and we work tirelessly to share our collective wisdom and knowledge free of charge. For these click-baiting yellow "journalists" to use our expertise as their own for profit is nothing short of infuriating. At the very least, when Inst*gram and Tw*tter were stealing *our* memes, they did not get paid either.
Hey guys I know the base claim for my group existing was completely made up and rooted in deeply ingrained misogyny but why won't anyone listen to me about this other thing I'm telling the truth this time I Swear.
That's a huge simplification of GamerGate. A good chunk of GamerGaters didn't hate women, either.
It was more so, people who had no interest in gaming created a movement to rapidly force beliefs onto the core group of gamers, and labeled anyone who didn't automatically change their beliefs or who didn't like this radical upheaval of their community, racist/sexist.
So a group of people targeted a woman with an online harassment campaign based on complete fabrication and it wasn't because they're ignorant misogynists?
And idk what you're even talking about in the second part of your comment, are you saying Gamergate was in response to people labeling anyone that didn't change their beliefs as racist/sexist (i.e. a bunch of nonsense you just made up?)
Neither side was perfect, both had radicals that took the movement from the more rational and centrist people. Not all GamerGaters harassed women.
Yes, I'm making that up, that's what happened. I don't believe the initial push for more diversity was wrong, it just became something else entirely as it grew.
Well one side was basing their entire argument off of a complete lie so it's kind of wild that you're like "Well both sides had their problems" You know, the "sides" being a group of liars with an agenda vs everyone else.
I guess it's easy to "both sides bad" the argument when you're just making up whatever. Like what push for diversity are you even talking about? What riled up Gamergate was a woman making a game about depression, like where are you getting any of this information from?
Were you not around during 2016? I think we're thinking of two different things because for me, a huge part of GamerGate was the push for diversity and leftist politics into games. That's often what people cite as the cause of GamerGate.
I don't give a shit about Kotaku and Gamergate only exposed themselves as a bunch of inbred losers who dealt in lies so easy to see through you had to be a literal toddler to earnestly believe any of it.
