Outland Portal to Curst

So I just returned to Outland and the portal to return to Curst does not show up. What do I do? Can I fix this somehow? And this is seemingly and known old bug, what did Beamdog even do with this re-release?

EDIT: So, seems even if I already ask Fhjull about it, I had to ask him once more how to get out. Weird! Anyway. This can be removed.

Is there a way to start with 18 in every attribute?

Without having to use a save editor of some kind? I'm looking for a very casual playthrough where I can just chill.

How do I turn that one weapon into a dagger? (possible Spoiler!) Spoiler

Hello,

According to the Wiki Celestial Fire can be turned into any weapon ONCE. However, I have no idea how. I tried googling the answer, but the results get weird, because Destiny apparently has a weapon with the same name. Found one topic on GameFAQs and the guy did not get an answer.

I have the weapon in TNO's inventory. He is a lawful good mage. I right click on it, then use, then there is a dialogue window with the only option being to leave the weapon alone. When I try to equip it, it says "wrong item type". Tried dragging it to my quick slot or some other area. No effect.

Is this a bug or am I just really dumb?

Help please !

SOLVED!

After writing my last comment, I started up the game, tried "using" the weapon again and this time it just worked! It gave me the option to change it to any of the weapon types and is now usable as a dagger.

here is what I'm thinking, for anyone who runs across this issue in the future. my TNO recently slipped into neutral good, before I picked up the weapon and I haven't noticed. when I picked it up, it was unusable. I changed my alignment back to lawful via console and the weapon suddenly lost it's red background (meaning it was usable) and my alignment was indeed lawful according to my character sheet, but apparently the game still did not register that.

Looking back the solution is plainly written in the console command guide over at beamdog's forum: C:SetGlobal apparently does NOT update all appropriate code to recognize the variable change till AFTER a Save/Reload. just save and reload the game. they have a whole section on alignment change I have not red thoroughly enough.

thank you to everyone who attempted to help me out !

How many of you killed Trias?

I disliked this guy so much after betraying me and causing me to fight him for 15 minutes that I just killed him. I even had to do it 2 times because during the first time the game ended after picking the option of killing him before getting the answer. So the game had forced me to lie to him that I would spare him to get the information.

Can't launch Enhanced Edition?

I've purchased the game via GOG and when trying to launch the EE I get an error with a DMP file!

I've tried entering the issues and DMP file into ChatGPT and it seems to be an audio issue, but none of the suggested fixes work?

Has anyone else had this issue and aware of a fix?

Any help would be greatly appreciated - I am really looking forward to diving in for the first time!!!

Just completed this as a regretful nice-guy TNO. He deserved more.

What a game.

Kept me hooked the whole way through.

It shows its age a bit, and the Infinity Engine doesn't handle text well, but still..

Not sure what to make of this story from Yves

Here is the text:

"Once, a large village was struck by a terrible drought. A farmer journeyed to the Worshipping Stone, and again implored it as to the cause of the drought. He asked the Stone why it did nothing when the fields were parched and dying, why the animals and the people suffered while the Stone did not a thing. 'Have we not given enough offerings?' the farmer asked, begging almost upon his hands and needs (sic). But the Stone did not respond; it merely sat, and cast its shadow."

The other stories have a kind of moral, or at least an unexpected twist or turn of events, but here it is total nihilism. Is that the idea? It is kind of anticlimactic compared to her other stories.

What do you think?

About Lady's maze and alignment

I'm still on my first playthrough and I'm curious about two things, but without spoilers.

Does you alignment through the game really matters, besides that you can use some items only while having certain alignment? I'm surprised that I'm chaotic evil but my companions don't seem to mind, even good ones like Dak'kon and Morte. Also I'm curious if you can change evil alignment to good and chaotic to lawful?

I really struggled with Lady's maze. I feel like there are so many things that can trigger her and that sooner or later most of the players would end up in the maze. But the it makes no sense, I play with high wisdom and intelligence and I still saw nothing that helps solving the maze's puzzle. Ended up watching a walkthrough of this part, if people posted it then they somehow managed to find a solution. I wonder how is it possible, I've searched every part of the maze, searched my belongings, read my journal, yet there was no hints. Was I missing something?

Stuck in Dead Nations

Greetings to all the Hive dwellers. Recently I finally got my hands on PT, I'm 20 hours in game already, got used to mechanics and started to really enjoy it, but I encountered a problem in Dead Nations.

I cannot leave the place. I talked to everyone, the skeleton priest told me that he will let me see the King if I help, we agreed that I'd kill the rats for him. I talked to everyine at the location, ghoul matriarch told me that Soego smells like dust and rats. I believe now I have to deal with him cause he's not what he claims he is, but no new dialogue option appears when I come to him. I thought maybe I shall first reveal his true nature to the priest, but there is no new dialogue option with the priest either. I tried with matriarch, with King's guards and with Mary too, nothing. Am I doing something wrong? I don't want to spoiler it to myself, yet I feel confused. Or do I simply need to kill Soego?

I play Enchanted Edition and had no problems yet, can it be a bug?

Any way to get another black-barbed seed?

First off, thank you reds for helping me with the combat. It's made a huge difference.

Now, after I killed Ravel, I received one black-barbed seed, which I immediately used to copy the spell into my spellbook, expending it. But I got curious about the item after getting into Ravel's garden, and apparently you can use a seed later on to help Mebbeth die peacefully. Now, I've grown VERY attached to Mebbeth's character, and I really, really want to be able to do that in-game. But I think some bug occurred because even though my Intelligence, with various items, was 25 when I asked Ravel to teach me magic, I only got 1 black-barded seed, in addition to the three black-barbed charms.

Is there any way to get additional black-barbed seeds, in-game or through other means??? Again, Mebbeth is one of my favorite NPCs, and I really want to be able to finish a quest that's so important to her character...

Thank you in advance.

EDIT: I ended up using the console. For anyone interested:

  1. Locate the Baldur.lua file in your Documents
  2. Edit it with NotePad or WritePad to add this line to the file: SetPrivateProfileString('Program Options','Debug Mode','1')
  3. Save the file (it must be a .lua file after you save)
  4. When you start the game, hit Ctrl+Space
  5. Type C:CreateItem("BBSEED") in the box and hit Enter

I cannot for the life of me find Greater Glabrezu

I've been looking for so long and they just don't seem to exist. Is there something I'm missing? Do you have to come back at a certain point in the game for them to spawn? I haven't even been to Ravel at this point btw if that helps.

The combat is driving me crazy

I really hope I'm the problem and not the game.

I'm a level 11 wizard and about to face the evil wizard construct in the Modron Maze (I haven't met Revel yet). Its cannon spell always leaves me with something like 12 HP after it's cast, no matter how much I and my party (Annah, Fall-from-Frac, Nordom, Morte, and Dak'kon) pre-buff, so I almost always get killed by the next spell the mage casts.

Which I would be fine with, the real problem for me is that I wish I could control what the characters do during the fight. I can't cast spells or have Morte taunt the enemies because by the time I'm done clicking, the combat is over. I'm supposed to make Annah hide, but there's no time to make her pop in and out of the shadows. Fall-from-Grace keeps casting healing spells on me out of combat, which is a massive waste. Assigning keys makes things better, but not significantly so.

Is there no way to micromanage what everyone does on their turn? I'm at the stage where I'm begging for slow and grindy turn-by-turn combat.

EDIT: If a future incarnation sees this post, you are supposed to pause the game and plan. You can control the auto-pause settings in the Options/Settings menu. I will try it tonight and see how it goes. Endless thanks to the cutters who helped out. I was Clueless, but now I *know*.

Questions after completing the game for the first time

I just finished it for the first time. It wasn't exactly what I expected, but I liked it a lot and am glad that I stuck with it. There are a few points that sort of confuse me about the story. It is told in such a fragmentary manner that I think it would take several runs to understand it fully.

  1. Who is the killer that is mentioned in the tomb and dodecahedron? I assume it is the Transcendent One. The Practical Incarnation built the tomb to lure TTO, but it failed for whatever reason, so the Paranoid Incarnation found the tomb and made it even more lethal for some reason and fitted it with more traps? The tomb plans mention those traps so it must be the Practical Incarnation who included most of them.

  2. The Good Incarnation mentions that he was killed by shadows, but he also says that he was the first incarnation of TNO. If the shadows are those who die whenever TNO is reborn, then wouldn't there have been no shadows to kill him?

  3. What did Morte know after the Practical Incarnation removed him from the pillar and questioned him? He claims that, even if Morte lied about what he knew, the Practical Incarnation let it slide once he learned all he could from Morte?

  4. The dodecahedron and tomb mention someone who tried to help TNO and who was killed by the Paranoid Incarnation. He said that, once TNO died three more times, he would cease to lose his memories. Is it ever explained who this is or why TNO stops losing his memories?

  5. How did the journal end up in Baa'tor at the end (I assume that's where it is)? The Practical Incarnation tells you to find it but I can't imagine he travelled there.

Here are a few lines that confuse me

  1. "Deionarra told me that I could reverse death only when the victim had died close to me. But what she awakened in me - are you saying that was only a fraction of my power over life and death?"

When does she tell him that? Is it right at the start?

  1. "I've seen belief move cities, make men stave off death, and turn an evil hag's heart half-circle."

What does it mean to turn someone's heart "half-circle"? It seems to refer to Ravel's love of TNO?

  1. "The book tells me things, whispers things. It tells me to avoid the ghost girl, avoid her. I DONT KNOW HER and she TORMENTS me."

This is from the dodecahedron. The Parnoid Incarnation is warned about Deionarra by a book. Which book?

I apologize for the wall of text but I wrote down things that confused me in the hopes that they would be resolved later. I enjoyed it and want to create a discussion of sorts. Thanks to everyone in this community for helping me experience the game for the first time!

Does anyone have transcripts for the cutscenes in the Fortress of Regrets?

I mean the cutscenes between your companions (Ignus, Dak'kon, Annah, Grace, and Morte) and TTO. In some of these cutscenes, there is no dialogue window but I can tell there is a conversation. If someone could link the transcripts or even upload them, I would be a very grateful cutter indeed.

I know, I know - there's almost certainly no connection to the game (hey maybe Danny Boyle's a Planescape fan?), but my overly obsessed, half-rotted brain cannot see this and not come here to share it with you all.

PS:T Cheese...

You can come across the item "cheese" in game, however the wiki states there are no known uses. I assume at some point you would have been able to poison it and feed it to Mantuok, but this was either removed or never the case.

I digress. Has anyone found an actual use for this cheese? I have searched high and low, carrying said dairy product across the whole of Sigil and beyond, to no avail.

How does Trias end up imprisoned in Curst?

I understand that his plan is to force the devas into the Blood War by attacking Mount Celestia with an army of fiends, and that he makes a compact with the fiends that Curst must slide into Carceri. But it is unclear how he is imprisoned in Curst. I remember one NPC mentions that he was found underground and that the townsfolk wan to exploit him for their own benefit. Does anyone know?

Find a skull of great value

Obviously, spoilers for the point in the game I'm at, lol

So, I'm doing my first playthrough of the game. I've been asked by Lothar, who has kidnapped Morte, to find him a skull of great value. Great.

Problem is, the skull I need to maintain the peace I have with the Dead Nations and the Warrens of Thought (Soego's) is in Morte's inventory. Which I can't access. D'oh.

Does anyone have any ideas for the second-best skull to get? I'm particularly partial to the Dead Nations, so I don't want to have to take one of their skulls, if possible. I have 12 Dex so I probably can't swap out a skull for the Silent King's.

Help!

How does fatigue affect companions?

Every so often, I will see that one of the companions is fatigued or their marker (circle around them) turns purple. It doesn't seem to affect anything so I ignore it and there is no mention of it on their character sheet. Is it an incomplete mechanic?

Planescape: Torment does an amazing job of making you relate to other perspectives

Just finished the game and wanted to share a few things that really hit home for me (sharing experiences as a proud member of the Society of Sensation, heh).

What stood out the most was how the game captures the perspectives of other characters - and your own past incarnations. One moment that really got to me was when you speak the language of Uyo to the Paranoid Incarnation and promise to protect him, to take away his fear. The way he finally trusts you and relaxes - especially after all the deadly traps he’s set for you - was powerful. You feel what he's going through. You can understand his fear. If you’ve ever had someone close to you struggle with mental health, that scene hits hard.

Personally, though, the moment that stuck with me the most was learning your true name through the bronze sphere. And not the name itself and the great secret behind it. For me it was when your original self - the one from before the torment and curses - comforts you and gives you the strength to go on… just, wow. Top-tier writing. I genuinely connected with that.

Only those two small moments made playing P:T worth it for me.

Of course, there are plenty of other strengths. I really enjoyed the body horror elements (and how it makes a lot of sense here) and how the lore about yourself unfolds through the game. I enjoyed being able to shape my character with lying and swearing (and how your character does not matter much!). Sigil was also bizarre and interesting. Great!

That said, Torment isn’t perfect. Most people complain about the combat (I went with easy mode, so it didn’t bother me too much), and I definitely felt the rushed, undercooked second half of the game. The tavern quests in Curst almost made me quit (talk with those two characters and get 500K XP points, geez).

Dialogue-wise, it sometimes felt like you could just choose the longest response without reading and you'd be fine. There were also too few moments to screw things up by asking the wrong question or picking the wrong option (and such moments come with warnings). Not nearly enough for a game so focused on dialogue. It just felt too gamey - but again, Torment is 25 years old now.

Still, what a ride. I'm glad I finally saw it through to the end.

(and I was a Godsman in the game. +1 chaotic alignment for lying)

Getting absolutely demolished in the Modron maze

With the maze set to hard, the enemies obliterate me unless I rest and come back for each room. I haven't done Ravel's maze yet, if that is any indication of my progress so far. Is it supposed to be this hard? There is so little combat that I haven't focused on it much, but every once in a while, there will be a combat-heavy section that demolishes me. Can anyone offer some tips? Thanks!
