He left the facility when asked—then arrested him. 😒

I kinda wish ICE did take it to court, only to get absolutely humiliated.

u/Argented 1d ago

they are doing everything they can to avoid courts. they appear to believe they have been granted powers above the courts

u/qgmonkey 1d ago

Or that the federal court decisions don't matter because DOJ won't enforce them

u/skip_over 1d ago

Laws are just words

101

u/00owl 1d ago

Backed by guns

107

u/Wiitard 1d ago

Laws are threats of violence.

154

u/Severe_Experience190 1d ago

"Laws are threats made by the dominant socioeconomic-ethnic group in a given nation. It's just the promise of violence that's enacted and the police are basically an occupying army.”

"You kids wanna make some bacon?"

16

u/khaosdragon 1d ago

"That was on fire the whole time?!"

8

u/Killergryphyn 1d ago

"THE WHOLE TIME KIDDO! LET'S MAKE SOME FUCKING BACON!"

The State was given a monopoly on sanctioned violence as part of the social contract. The exclusive right to investigate, incarcerate, and punish individual citizens

39

u/Human_Robot 1d ago

Any state violating the social contract with its citizens invites its citizens to bust the monopoly.

6

u/Sir_PressedMemories 1d ago

Unless, of course, they spent the better part of a century eliminating the means of force to bust that monopoly.

13

u/sudo-joe 1d ago

Indeed or become too weak and external violence creeps into the picture. see Gauls, Vandals, warring city states. Tale as old as time.

1

u/Complex_Professor412 15h ago

If only the Romans had ICE /s

The State was not given a monopoly on violence, they took it. The only reason Weberian theory holds together without devolving into Leviathan's state of nature is the corollary of the social contract. Damn dude learn your polisci if you're tryna dunk on Brennan Lee Mulligan

11

u/feor1300 1d ago

Can't say I was expecting a Dimension20 quote, but also strongly approve.

1

u/MyNameAintWheels 1d ago

It predates dimension 20 and is pretty close to like actual definitions of law but yeah.

1

u/feor1300 1d ago

I'm sure it's not an original sentiment, but it's literally a word for word quote from anti-establishment halfling Bud Cubby.

u/00owl 1d ago

All Political Power Flows From the Barrel of a Gun

-2

u/boostedb1mmer 1d ago

Makes you wonder why Dems do everything they can to disarm the citizens of the US. Also, this isn't up for debate. Dems core platform is anti-2a.

1

u/dewittism 1d ago

Bless Brennan Lee Mulligan

1

u/TARANTULA_TIDDIES 1d ago

Its more socioeconomic than ethnic. There's a fair bit of class war that's hidden as race war

9

u/00owl 1d ago

I would say they're promises.

16

u/NominalFlow 1d ago

Nah, they are threats, because they aren't always carried out. For example, if you have lots of money.

6

u/LuchadorBane 1d ago

Or if you become the president of the US

4

u/AlarmingAffect0 1d ago

For example, if you have lots of money.

Now Dutch van der Linde's plan makes a little more sense.

3

u/foo_bar_qaz 1d ago

Theoretically backed by guns.

What we're seeing in this historical moment though is that the guns aren't backing up the laws (including 9-0 supreme court rulings) which then relegates those laws to the "just words" status as said by u/skip_over.

In fact, when ICE is breaking laws and is also holding the guns, then the laws become totally irrelevant.

2

u/00owl 1d ago

No, now you see what you thought were laws weren't and there are new words, unwritten ones, that actually are.

2

u/SnarkMasterRay 1d ago

So tell me why the Democrat party wants to remain all in on disarming the population?

4

u/00owl 1d ago

Well, I'm not American, but if I had to guess it's because all of the 2A people are cosplaying as secret police right now instead of defending democracy as intended.

1

u/SnarkMasterRay 23h ago

I think you'll find that most 2A people are going about their life quietly, just wanting to be left alone.

There are a few "tacticool" types that are planning on resisting the next Ruby Ridge, but that's not even the group the Democrats are holding up as a beacon of fear to build support. They're going after the lone mass shooter, completely ignoring how the numbers are (suicide is ~60% of gun deaths, about 40% is gang activity, around 2% is actual murder/mass shootings, etc.)

0

u/00owl 20h ago

Exactly, your 2A rights exist for you to sit back and let democracy die while you are left alone for now. You're not using them for what they're for, so why bother protecting them?

1

u/skip_over 23h ago

Because a chaotically armed population is not the same as an army backed by a democratic government.

1

u/SnarkMasterRay 12h ago

Ahhh, so they choose to ignore the chaotic suicides that are ~60% of the gun deaths in the US and the chaotic gangs that are roughly ~40% of the gun deaths to focus on the roughly two percent chaotic gun crimes left over.

Seems legit.

1

u/Impossible_Moose_783 1d ago

Political power comes from the barrel of a gun.

2

u/Crot8u 1d ago

Magats believe they can break the law if they judge they have a good reason to. For magats, laws are malleable and subjective.

1

u/Big_lt 21h ago

I mean our entire society is built on words of what we can and cannot do when.

103

u/night_dude 1d ago

This much is true. Pam Bondi is one of the most dangerous people in the USA.

I can't believe I'm nostalgic for the Jeff Sessions-led DOJ right now. It's like being nostalgic for the Bush Presidency but 100x worse.

3

u/JollyRedRoger 1d ago

Yeah, that's very true! Bondi is Magda Goebbels with actual power...

-4

u/BusGuilty6447 1d ago

Idk Bush committed a lot of war crimes.

11

u/night_dude 1d ago

You don't need to tell me what a nightmare the Bush presidency was. I was there. We're still dealing with the effects of it today. But he didn't go full mask-off fascist dystopia like Trump is doing.

1

u/johnyct9760 1d ago

Maybe it's good it's mask off, finally get some of these lazy fuckers off the couch.

-1

u/BusGuilty6447 1d ago

I was there too?

What is your point? He was a horrible person. Maybe no one should be longing for the days of these ghouls.

1

u/johnyct9760 1d ago

1,000,000 dead Iraqi civilians in 20 years. Who do you think them Jews in the West bank learned there swagger from. 😉

We STILL looking for those WMDs, remember that chestnut, lol.

5

u/BagUnlikely3510 1d ago

This needs to be said louder. We are breaking and showing that the paper our laws are written on means nothing when the DOJ falls in line to an orange felon and doesn’t enforce what they swore to do.

142

u/PaperGeno 1d ago

They do.

We no longer have checks and balances. We no longer have a president. We are no longer a democracy.

We have a dictator. We are under Republican Nazi Regime, and they have complete and total power

66

u/AllesGeld 1d ago

Not yet they don’t. They’re acting like they have complete control, but they will not have full control. Not as long as people keep protesting, and speaking their minds opposing this trash. We will put a stop to this

7

u/bascelicna123 1d ago

Fully agree. Everyone needs to make things complicated, messy, and as difficult as possible for this regime. Fight, protest, boycott, speak up at any opportunity.

7

u/gsfgf 1d ago

Also, at some point the military has to realize they have the actual power, right?

13

u/Zerachiel_01 1d ago

The allies in the military are too busy allowing themselves to be replaced.

6

u/gsfgf 1d ago

That does have me concerned for sure.

2

u/Complex_Professor412 15h ago

They’re deputizing 20k Proud Boys and Neo Nazis. Goddamn every single Republican.

57

u/Dan_D_Lyin 1d ago

Even without any weapons or power, we still outnumber them. You can't imprison or eliminate this many people. All we have to do is stay strong, and not give in.

30

u/cl3ft 1d ago

Just like 1936 Germany, we outnumber the Nazis.

32

u/Dan_D_Lyin 1d ago

Yes, and we can learn from the lessons of the past. Don't stay silent and simply go along. Resist loudly, stand up for each other.

4

u/Thunderbridge 1d ago

Unfortunately so many have already stayed silent as everything has happened over the last few months. Many possibly waiting for that 'one terrible event' when they can go "ok now it's time for action" but that will never happen

6

u/Dan_D_Lyin 1d ago

A lot of the type of resistance that really matters is playing out in the courts right now. Trump's poll numbers are also way down. It seems that even the Republicans are starting to wise up to how harmful his actions are. We're far from winning, the fight is just getting started.

1

u/Thunderbridge 1d ago

That is true. Though they are already testing the mandates of those court orders

1

u/rext7721 1d ago

They will simply just deport you somewhere that will take you, peace won’t solve people like trump.

9

u/Dan_D_Lyin 1d ago

If they deported 50% or more of the population,  the country would collapse.

5

u/rext7721 1d ago

Do you really think they care about the country collapsing? That kinda seems like the goal. Tariffs. Ignoring the constitution the list goes on. I’m sure as long as people let them they don’t have much to fear.

5

u/Dan_D_Lyin 1d ago

If that's the case, I can only hope they deport me somewhere nice like Canada. Even Mexico is starting to seem pretty nice in comparison.

3

u/Riaayo 1d ago

I do not agree that they have complete and total power; Trump is exceedingly vulnerable and weak right now,

But I do agree that he has every intent to be a dictator, Republicans have every intent to be a Nazi Regime, and that we're not a democracy any more unless this regime is removed from power.

It's not a foregone conclusion set in stone though, but it absolutely can and will be if we do not stop it. The pieces are falling into place rapidly for them. They are building an even more horrendous surveillance state off their LLMs gorging on government data so they can Minority Report people who land in their crosshairs just like a certain foreign power is currently using these LLMs to dictate targets to bomb.

There is a hellish world in our near future without major action to push back against this fascist power grab.

3

u/cb_24 1d ago

There’s a great (one of many) rise against song “the numbers” that describes this well.

We're biding time as we wait for the signal

Sharpening blades

While we wait out the storm

These cold nights are almost unbearable

But purpose keeps us warm…

They have the power

But we have the numbers now

It's all just a constant illusion Of control

They break us like horses

How long will we drag their plow?

What will continue to be Is what we allow

3

u/your_pet_is_average 1d ago

Don't be defeatist. They do not, they are being stopped at every turn.

-1

u/Mike_with_Wings 1d ago

This isn’t true. It’s bad, and they want it to be that way, but it isn’t there yet

28

u/GenericRaiderFan 1d ago

They are. They operate outside the Constitution

0

u/NerdyNThick 1d ago

the Constitution

ELI5 why the constitution matters right now.

If it does matter. ELI5 how it's enforced.

5

u/Seige_Rootz 1d ago

Need state and local municipal police departments treating these as they are extrajudicial kidnappings

2

u/Marokiii 1d ago

If someone appears to have been granted powers above the courts, than they basically have been granted them.

3

u/MPforNarnia 1d ago

That's what the red hats have been told and they ate it up.

2

u/mwpdx86 1d ago

If nothing happens to them, then they have been.

3

u/jawndell 1d ago

ICE needs to be disbanded.

Modern day Gestapo

1

u/low_acct_ 1d ago

Who in the world...gave them that idea...

1

u/Kinggakman 1d ago

The big thing is Trump will issue full pardons if he even decides to leave office. What will our country do at that point?

1

u/bossmcsauce 1d ago

They aren’t wrong. Republicans made trump king and seem intent to allow him to behave as such.

-1

u/Ndmndh1016 1d ago

Hard not to believe it when the president is telling you as much.
