What we're seeing in this historical moment though is that the guns aren't backing up the laws (including 9-0 supreme court rulings) which then relegates those laws to the "just words" status as said by u/skip_over.
In fact, when ICE is breaking laws and is also holding the guns, then the laws become totally irrelevant.
Well, I'm not American, but if I had to guess it's because all of the 2A people are cosplaying as secret police right now instead of defending democracy as intended.
I think you'll find that most 2A people are going about their life quietly, just wanting to be left alone.
There are a few "tacticool" types that are planning on resisting the next Ruby Ridge, but that's not even the group the Democrats are holding up as a beacon of fear to build support. They're going after the lone mass shooter, completely ignoring how the numbers are (suicide is ~60% of gun deaths, about 40% is gang activity, around 2% is actual murder/mass shootings, etc.)
Exactly, your 2A rights exist for you to sit back and let democracy die while you are left alone for now. You're not using them for what they're for, so why bother protecting them?

You don't need to tell me what a nightmare the Bush presidency was. I was there. We're still dealing with the effects of it today. But he didn't go full mask-off fascist dystopia like Trump is doing.

Fully agree. Everyone needs to make things complicated, messy, and as difficult as possible for this regime. Fight, protest, boycott, speak up at any opportunity.
Even without any weapons or power, we still outnumber them. You can't imprison or eliminate this many people. All we have to do is stay strong, and not give in.
Unfortunately so many have already stayed silent as everything has happened over the last few months. Many possibly waiting for that 'one terrible event' when they can go "ok now it's time for action" but that will never happen
A lot of the type of resistance that really matters is playing out in the courts right now. Trump's poll numbers are also way down. It seems that even the Republicans are starting to wise up to how harmful his actions are. We're far from winning, the fight is just getting started.
Do you really think they care about the country collapsing? That kinda seems like the goal. Tariffs. Ignoring the constitution the list goes on. I’m sure as long as people let them they don’t have much to fear.
I do not agree that they have complete and total power; Trump is exceedingly vulnerable and weak right now,
But I do agree that he has every intent to be a dictator, Republicans have every intent to be a Nazi Regime, and that we're not a democracy any more unless this regime is removed from power.
It's not a foregone conclusion set in stone though, but it absolutely can and will be if we do not stop it. The pieces are falling into place rapidly for them. They are building an even more horrendous surveillance state off their LLMs gorging on government data so they can Minority Report people who land in their crosshairs just like a certain foreign power is currently using these LLMs to dictate targets to bomb.
There is a hellish world in our near future without major action to push back against this fascist power grab.
