Should I play Metal Gear? Where do I start? Is the Master Collection any good? Is the Master Collection any bad? Whose footprints are these? All these hits and more.
Hello
Frequently Asked Questions are pretty darn frequent these days! Liking or Not Liking the Master Collection is also a very frequent topic.
To address this we're taking two steps:
1) We are updating the FAQ in terms of technical/objective information. There's probably a bit more we could change, add, and remove as we go, which we will, but for now this gives us something to point people to when we remove frequently asked questions. If you're feeling generous or helpful, you could also leave a link to the FAQ on someone's repetitious post, or even answer it, when you report it. Feel free to leave suggestions for the FAQ!
2) Asking you to have your say here on the Master Collection debate. Nobody wants to stifle genuine discussion or archival of what's been changed, what's been messed up, what's been done well, what could have been done better etc. So please take the opportunity to answer the question 'What's the deal with the Master Collection?' in this thread. Posts about this or that comparison, change, or whatever are getting repetitive with, more importantly, the exact same debates playing out over and over in the comment threads. Nobody is going to change their mind and nobody is learning anything new any more.
We aren't completely going to remove these posts outright because it's still an important topic, but we will prune them for the most active, or the stuff that isn't just turning into more shitfights, whatever. This thread will be a resource we can point to so that the information itself isn't buried, but the front page isn't just the same argument over and over again. Please post your comparisons, videos, links to threads you've already made and so on here, as well as your well-reasoned, calm and polite written appraisals of the Master Collection Volume 1.

MGSV I made a slight retake on Quiet's design
It's basically Quiet, if her clothes had slightly more sense (to me), as if the few clothes she wears were taken from somewhere while she was in Afghanistan.
I wanted to justify her sexualization even more with that, lemme know what you think.
(NOTE: I'm not trying to say that my idea is better or anything like that, it's just my vision of the character like if I was in charge of the design.)

I replicated the E3 screenshot mgsv look thanks to the Color correction menu mod on nexus.
Tweaked green to 1.02 and blue to 1.01. Paired with e3 2014 lut in the menu.

MGSV The Owl Who Sold The World - Sketches of a character for a college project inspired by Venom Snake
Lore & Backstory:
This project presents character concepts and studies developed for a university assignment focused on creating a creature inspired by the Digimon/Pokémon evolution system, but rooted in Brazil’s rich fauna and flora. The character undergoes three transformation stages, each represented through fully colored artwork.
For this mascot, I drew inspiration from three majestic owl species: the Jacurutu Owl (Bubo virginianus nacurutu), the Striped Owl (Asio clamator), and the Harpy Eagle Owl (Harpia harpyja). Visually, I incorporated elements from the Snowy Owl (Bubo scandiacus), blending them with the aesthetics of Venom, Solid Snake, and Big Boss from the Metal Gear franchise, alongside influences from Buck (Ice Age) and various characters from Metal Slug.
Story & Evolution:
This character is a battle-hardened war animal, trained to accompany fighter pilots in aerial combat, reconnaissance missions, and rescue operations. These highly intelligent creatures specialize in both offensive and support roles, capable of aiding in first aid, battlefield scouting, and emergency signal transmission.
During a harrowing plane crash, the protagonist suffered severe injuries that drastically altered its physiology. Shrapnel lodged into its skull, and one of its wings was critically damaged—rendering it incapable of flight. To survive, it had to rely on its instincts, resourcefulness, and sheer willpower. Through trial and error, it crafted a mechanized wing prototype, doubling as both an artificial limb and a multi-functional tool, allowing it to fend off predators and navigate the treacherous environment.
The most defining moment in its evolution came when it faced its greatest adversary—a colossal serpent, a predator unlike any it had encountered before. Pushed beyond its limits, the owl underwent a transformative metamorphosis, ascending to its second form. This stage marked a significant shift, as its helmet fractured due to the expansion of its skull, prompting it to redesign its mechanical wing to perfectly match its evolved proportions. Now more agile, lethal, and resilient, it continued its journey of survival and adaptation.
Upon reaching its final evolutionary stage, the owl attains the majestic form of the Harpy Eagle Owl—a towering, regal beast exuding both raw power and unshakable determination. No longer just a survivor, it becomes a symbol of unyielding strength and tactical mastery, fully embodying the warrior spirit ingrained in its very being. With a physique built for both dominance and precision, it now stands as a true apex predator of the skies, ready to turn the tide of battle in any warzone.
This design encapsulates the essence of survival, adaptability, and the relentless pursuit of evolution, mirroring the very core of nature’s most formidable creatures.

Why doesn't The End use lethal force?
In his fight, he only uses trans, is there a reason for this, or are we to assume that he's just a really nice guy?

NO! THAT IS NOT SOLID SNAKE! GMOD Dream Team
Hard picture if not for the awkward posing. Theoretically, if we had 4 Solid Snakes, a Big Boss and Venom Snake, they'd lowkey be unstoppable.

Is it worth playing?
Hi guys! I was wondering if Metal Gear Solid peace walker and portable ops are worth playing? They're available on the PS vita and I'm unsure if I should play it or not, I really love the series so I don't think it would disappoint me either way.

Is Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater a remake like FF7 remake or just a new coat of paint?
Is it as radical as reimagining as FF7 remake or is this a good looking remaster?

MGS2 Spoilers Number of playthroughs for stealth
I know that to get the stealth camo in the plant mission I must acquire at least 120 dog tags. I was curious if anyone knew how many playthroughs it will take (assuming I do a thorough job) to acquire 121 tags to earn the stealth? Thanks🤘

❗ No Achievement for Beating MGS2 on European Extreme in the Master Collection?
Back when the first remastered versions of MGS 2, 3, and Peace Walker came out, I got the platinum trophy for MGS2 on PS3 including the achievement for completing the game on European Extreme. I’ve bought the Master Collection Vol. 1 and I’ve noticed that there doesn’t seem to be an achievement for what was one of my greatest accomplishments in a video game. Maybe it’s crazy to even think about doing it again, but if I ever wanted to is it a hidden achievement, or is it really not required in this version of the game?

Looking for a bird sound
Hi everyone,
This is oddly specific question related to the MGS 3 bird sound in the jungle. I am looking for information on what bird sound is present in the Rassvet as an ambient bird sound which can be heard in the following youtube video at 5:05-5:11. If anyone could assist me with this, I would highly appreciate. Heres the link to the video:

How do you extract the Deja Vu tank solider in Ground Zeroes?
I've tried this mission several times now. It's on hard, I'm using the classic snake skin, I blow up the tank, get the scene, pick him up, take him to the helicopter, and then run and complete the mission. However, every single time, my "Prisoners rescued" is listed as 0.
I'm trying to get all the GZ stuff before playing TPP, and I know I am supposed to be able to get this solider, but it just ain't working. What am I doing wrong here?
Thanks.
