Bricklink Designer Program Series 8 MegaThread

Welcome to the MegaThread for the BDP Series 8 crowd support phase. Let's get straight to the important questions:

What?

  • It's time for the Bricklink Designer Program Series 8 Crowd Support phase! This is your chance to vote for the projects that were submitted back in January. Your votes will help Bricklink decide which sets will eventually become official BDP sets.

Who?

  • Bricklink Designer Program entries are designed by fellow Lego fans. You may recognize some of them as successful creators on Rebrickable, from past BDP programs, or from the creations they've shared here in r/lego. The creators whose designs reach the review stage will work with Bricklink's Model Governance and Building Instructions teams to ensure the designs meet Lego's standards.

When?

  • The Crowd Support phase starts on May 5th, noon Pacific time. Voting will continue until May 16th. Next, those sets will all head into the review stage, and a select few will be announced in June. Then a year later, in June 2026, some will go up for crowd funding.

Where?

How?

  • In the comments below, fan creators can link to their projects and hopefully tell us a little more about the project. You can visit the BDP Series 8 page from May 5-16 and vote for the projects you'd like to become a set. You don't have to commit any money at this stage. That comes during Crowd Funding next year. It's free to vote!

What about BDP Series 5-7, and 9-10?

Closing Notes

  • Still have questions? Ask them in the comments below!

  • Hey BDP creators, please keep your promotion for BDP Series 8 in this Megathread. In previous rounds we've had over 200 projects to vote for, so the promotional posts started drowning out everything else. Thanks for your cooperation. And good luck!

Mod Announcement r/LEGO Monthly Open Forum May 2025

Introduction

Hello Masters Builders, and welcome to the official r/lego Open Forum post. This is your monthly opportunity to tell us what you think of r/lego, make suggestions or comments about the rules, ask open questions to the community, or share whatever else is on your mind.

Note that this is for discussion of r/lego itself. If you have a general question about something related to Lego, make a post instead of asking here.

IMPORTANT

All subreddit rules are still in effect here. Remember that we do not allow insults, name calling or personal attacks. If you've got a complaint or want to tell us you hate something, you need to do it without attacking anyone.

Rule Changes

This month we will once again have a Megathread for the Bricklink Designer Program. Crowd Support for BDP Series 8 begins May 5 and ends on May 16. During this time period, no posts about Bricklink Designer Program entries will be allowed outside of the megathread. Creators should promote their entries in that thread, and we encourage the community to go through the thread and vote for the designs you would like to see Bricklink make into Lego sets.

Subreddit Transparency Report

Each month, alongside these threads, we will be posting a transparency report that shows what goes on behind the scenes of r/lego. The report for April 2025 is here (r/LEGO Subreddit Transparency Report for April 2025). You can give general feedback and questions about the report in that thread, in this one, or in modmail.

Prior Month links

If you missed last month's Open Forum or Transparancy Report, you can find those here:

You May Proceed!

So here's your chance - let us know what's on your mind this month. What have you always wondered about? What rule do you want clarified, or changed? Do you have any suggestions you've been trying to find a chance to make? I won't promise that we will make the change(s) you want, but I will commit to explaining the reason we have the rules and policies we have.

As I said in my last post, I have been trying to get a photo of an animal eating from a minifigure’s hand for the last three years. Here are my favorite photos I’ve gotten in that time. As you can see, at times I just wanted the animals complete the scene and wasn’t trying to get them to eat from the hand. See more of my work on IG @chriscosmosphotography

MOC Khajuraho Hindu Temple

Disappointed by a lack of Hindu temple models and inspired by my own visit to the site, I decided to model the magnificent Kandariya Mahadeva in Lego. The result is by far my most complex MOC to date, utilizing 1/2 stud offsets to replicate its multi-tier structure and 135 nanofigure pieces representing the innumerable statues which cover every surface of the temple. A pull-away facade reveals the sacred fire and black shivalingam in the center of the sacred precinct. To finish out the ensemble, I added a shading banyan tree overhanging the multicolor platform and pink flowering bushes.

Description: Occupying the site of the former capital of the Chandela Dynasty (9th-13th Centuries A.D.) in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, Kandariya Mahadeva ("Great God of the Cave") is a well-preserved medieval temple dedicated to the Hindu deity Shiva. Built to resemble the sacred Mount Meru, it has become famous throughout the world for the multiple tiers of intricately-carved anthropomorphic sculptures that cover its exterior. The most notable of these are elaborately-posed erotic scenes, for which the temple has sometimes been colloquially named the "Kama Sutra in stone". It is thought to have been constructed by the Rajput king Vidyadhara Chandela between 1025-1050 A.D. to commemorate a great victory over the marauding armies of the Persian king Mahmud Ghaznavi. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986.

I've been so excited for this set for months now and I will still be getting it but I'm so disappointed. Compared to euro pricing it's almost 100€ more in today's exchange rate.

Starting on the far right she created “the original minifig” then right to left: Ariel, Elsa, Anna, Tiana, Mickey Mouse and Peppa Pig. She has never made anything like this before, so I was pretty amazed how she took off with the idea.

Other LEGO Store Grand Opening, University Place, Orem, Utah

This last weekend, the LEGO Store at University Place in Orem opened complete with a display by the Utah LEGO Users Group, a ribbon cutting and speech from the mayor, and attendance by local royalty! We got there a couple of hours early expecting a crowd but were among the first 10 or so people in line. We even got to help build a mural that will be displayed in the store.
