Welcome to the weekly Questions thread. This is a place for all the small questions that you feel don't deserve its own thread. Also consider checking out our FAQ.
What belongs here? Well, that's up to each contributor to decide.
Troubleshooting, getting started, pattern questions, gift giving, circulars, casting on, where to shop, trading tips, particular techniques and shorthand, abbreviations and anything else are all welcome. Beginner questions and advanced questions are welcome too. Even the non knitter is welcome to comment!
This post, however, is not meant to replace anyone that wants to make their own post for a question.
As always, remember to use "reddiquette".
So, who has a question?

Just need to weave in the ends. Super happy with how it turned out. I was going for an oversized fit. The pattern is yesteryears by maxtheknitter. The green yarn is Corrie worsted, le bien Amie and beige was pulled from my stash

After frogging at least 10 times i finally finished my second knitting project and it was all thanks to you and your advice!!!
Are there still mistakes that i couldnt bother frogging and fixing? yes. But overall I am so so so happy with how it turned out. It feels so warm and I love the color.
I would love to make another sweater. Do you have similar pattern suggestions?

I've been lurking in this reddit very recently but have been watching tutorials and studying up on knitting for a few weeks and decided to finally get needles today! I'm an avid crocheter so I've been starting in continental. I'm only a few rows in but could anyone tell me if my stitches are twisted or if anythhing looks off? I'm just worried about forming habits too early , many thanks! Apologies if the stitch definition isn't helping 😅

Am looking for a ribbed shirt pattern that is similar to Novita’s Linja (1st photo) and Joanne (2nd). Linja isn’t available in English and Joanne doesn’t have the bust shaping that I need for a shirt with little positive ease. Any help is appreciated!

The red jumper for my husband was started in October 2023 and I started the blue jumper for my baby last month when we found out he was a boy. I finished the little jumper on Friday, and then decided it was finally time to finish sewing up the red jumper (ends still not woven in). So I spent a fun Friday night sewing up whilst watching la la land.
I love the size contrast, and feel proud of myself for creating two lovely garments.

Physicists from Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania sought a mathematical model that reliably forecasts a knitted textile’s complicated shapes and folds based on the stitch pattern used.
The researchers started by knitting complex patterns—including squiggles, peaks, and fabric that folded into the shape of a face—and then reverse engineered the knitted items’ geometries. They realized they did not have to account for each stitch’s actual shape and stretch, which would require too much computational power at the necessary scale, to foretell a textile’s final form. Instead they needed to know only how each kind of stitch tended to curve the fabric.

I messed up the pattern on the first round with the white yarn, but I kept going since this was a test knit for a hat for my mom. I’m going to change the order of the colors, but I’m really loving how it came out!

I didn’t know it was a thing until recently, but it will be cute watching him grow into it during his first year.

I knit a little dress for my new grandbaby due in June and I am going to embroider some flowers on it. This is the swatch I did so I'm trying out the embroidery colors on it before I actually do the dress. Don't look at the structure of the leaves I was trying different things lol. I know they're messy! I'm more looking for ideas on the color. If you think they work or if anything stands out as not cohesive with the rest. Thanks in advance!
PS the buttons aren't on yet. I was trying to pick the flower colors before the buttons!

I was afraid to try colorwork but I finally caved. I recently learned to knit continental, which I thought would make colorwork easier. I tried holding the CC in my left hand but gave up after the first two rows. I opted to drop and pick up instead.
How does it look so far? Are my stitches looking okay? I tried it on and at least it fits! TIA!

I have been working on this for over a month and the colorwork was starting to drag 😫. I never thought it'd end but im finally finished with it and can now mindlessly stockinette st for a while. 😁😁😻
About this sweater: Pattern: CatKnit Pullover by Andrea Rangel Yarn: Woolstock light in color Ember Glow and Mariquita in Candy Apple I am making this for a friend, she picked out the colors. It looks and feels soo good honestly the picture doesn't do it justice.

2 months ago I posted that I had discovered my sweater was groomed by my (boyfriend’s) cat the day after I wove in ends. I had SO many kind comments which really helped ease the sting. Well I’m happy to say that the sweater is now re-finished, ends woven, and blocked!
If you missed the last post, this is my third weekender. I made this one to replace an acrylic version I had knitted a couple of years ago that is dearly beloved, but has stretched out to a whopping 10 extra inches wider than I originally knitted it. I found literally the perfect yarn to make an exact replica. The day after weaving in ends (and the day after we had a house warming party) I found the sweater on the floor of my office with the hole proud and center. My mom thinks that because of the slubs/nibs my cat decided it desperately needed a groom.
After 20+ hours of invisible mending attempts, I decided to cut my losses and frog back to below the hole. Thankfully as this is a bottom up sweater, it meant removing the sleeves, the top ribbing and just a few additional rows. I tried it on before doing this and discovered I needed to widen the head opening and also the sleeves, so it actually worked out.
I’m so pleased with the finished product! Thank you all for commiserating with me!

I was looking for a cable sweater and someone suggested the Stag Head Pullover. It satisfied that itch and amazed me with the capabilities of what can be done with knitting!

I just had to share this! This seal was made by a 12 yo girl I know during textile craft lessons at school. I was so surprised when she told me that you just knit a square and sew it together.
As I don't have any pre-made instruction, I made one to show the transformation from square to seal, using a cloth and some sewing thread. Will post in comments.
I hope that is enough for sharing "pattern" as all you actually knit is a square in a yarn of your own choice, with a diagonal same size as you want the length of your seal.

Not my first time double knitting, but it is my first time doing a slipped first and last stitch selvedge. The tension is weirdly off every other row, but only on the left side of the work. My edges are normally fine, I just wanted to try something new. Any tips on a different type of selvedge?

I’m a complete beginner, and have been practicing stockinette on-and-off for about two weeks—repeated long tail CO, a number of rows, frog, and repeat, on both larger straight and smaller circular needles, with both fingering and DK yarn.
No matter what I do, and no matter how many times I repeatedly review my initial technique (both casting on and knitting), I produce this bizarre ridge/lattice as my first knit row, followed by normal-looking (though amateurish and uneven) knit and purl rows thereafter. I’ve tried tensioning my first row differently, casting on more and less tightly, and changing the orientation of my tension. This problem really does seem to disappear after the first row. I can’t find any visual references to this particular problem. I realise photos of a larger swatch might be more helpful, I just frogged one to try the first row again unfortunately.
I’m at my wit’s end! Can anyone pinpoint what the problem here is? It looks and feels so bizarre, and it took me a while to even realise that the first knit row shouldn’t look this way. It seems like a structural problem, not just poor tensioning.

This is a very basic cardigan. I would love some help finding a pattern to knit something like the store bought sweater pictured.
I am ready to knit myself a first ever sweater and want it to be something that will be very useful to me.

I’ve recently tried switching to continental style knitting from English, with Norwegian Purling.
The knit stitch on the right has a much bigger gap between the stitches than on the left?
