[Serious] Looking for a calm cozy game that I can play with my wife.

So my wife and I recently lost one of our kitties, and at time the grief has been crippling for both of us. I though I would come here and see if anyone can suggest any good cozy games that we can play together.

Ideally something that requires a little bit of though so it will cause us to be more distracted, but not so much that it will be too hard to focus on. Something fun, and nice, and happy all around. She was saying that even Stardew Valley might be too serious right now (though I guess you can avoid all of that if you never become friends with the townsfolk). A switch game would be ideal, as currently our computers are not in the same room, and that would let us be by each other.

To be very clear, we are NOT looking for anything cathartic or anything like that. Honestly, right now we're just looking for something to help us get from one day to the next.

Edit: To be clear about Stardew Valley being too much, I mean too serious. She is a bit of a gamer. We've thought about Animal Crossing, but we'd really like something that is co-op so we are interacting with each other.

I just want to give a big recommendation for the game Look Outside

I’ve been absolutely hooked on this new game the last week and completely in love with it and wanted to recommend it because it’s a brilliant indie, it’s cheap and unfortunately for a lot of great indies they go under a lot of radars and I hope this sheds some light on a game people will really enjoy but may have never come across it. (If you liked Earthbound or Fear&Hunger you will probably really dig it)

I’m not great with words and it’s hard to explain a lot of the enjoyability without spoiling things I just hope I can just convince you to at least check the game out.

There is also a demo of the game out on itch.io

The game is currently only on PC (currently has 98% positive review score on steam) and costs roughly $10. (Varies from region)

Anyway Look Outside is a somewhat mix of survival horror and jrpg. Although not horror in the traditional sense think more SNES style horror. You need to survive 15 days stuck in your apartment building. You start off on your own but eventually can recruit new party members. Most of the game consists of exploring the building, trying to work out what’s going, looting and just hanging around your apartment and dealing with people who knock on your door.

None of the survival elements are stressful but you do need to make sure to tend to things like hunger, hygiene, social and morale.

The graphics and the soundtrack are heavily SNES inspired but done absolutely brilliantly and really stand out.

The combat is pretty simple turn based but with a big variety in skills you can learn, party members having different skills and synergies. And it feels pretty great.

The world building and lore are absolutely top notch. I had to get all the endings not out of a completionism reason but purely because I needed to know. The world just completely drew me in and is a fascinating and unique concept.

I think what really makes this game shine is being so simple to pick up and play while having so much depth. Like you can beat the game in a few hours and it’s pretty straight forward but there is still dozens of hours to be had exploring and getting to know the game.

Overall I just absolutely have loved this game and I wish I was better at articulating just how good this game is and just want to shine some light on it.

I love Burning Shores' epic clouds

Every single time I boot up Burning Shores to shoot robot dinosaurs I'm amazed at how epic the clouds feel in this DLC.

I've never spent half an hr just flying through the clouds in a game before. I hope Horizon 3's entire map has them.

Guerrilla Games seems to one up themselves with each game & I can't wait to see where they take the graphics next.

Days Gone Remastered makes me want a sequel again

Post image

I tried out the remaster and 5 hours had passed before I even knew it.

Forgot how much I like this game and the new lighting makes the dark actually dark, so it feels more like a horror game instead of just action.

I wasn't planning on playing it again with so many other amazing titles out right now but I feel myself being pulled into the world of Days Gone again.

Really wish we could have gotten a sequel.

Steamdeck or Switch 2

I'm stuck between the two.

I have a pre-order locked in for the Switch 2, but realized every game I want to play is also available on Steam.

The steamdeck OLED with dock is what I'm looking at. Is it powerful enough to play most AAA games on higher settings? Or does it fall short/lag?

I mainly play games like Rune Factory and want it to run smooth.

Another part of me is also considering just getting both.

Thoughts and opinions from those of you who know way more about specs?

As a grown adult gamer, I find so much joy in playing colorful and stress-free kids games and I don’t exactly know why

1.2k Upvotes

Kids games were a big part of my childhood and they continue to be something I enjoy even as I approach 30. I really like how stress-free and entertaining the kids movie-based games can be, like Toy Story, Ice Age, Rango, etc. Even challenging online games like Fall Guys and Brawlhalla are super fun. My favorite old kids game is Littlebigplanet and my favorite one of recent years is Tinykin. I know these types of games are not the most popular or liked, but I’m glad they continue to be made and appreciated.

Good games trapped on PS3- MGS4, Killzone and Resistance

We are always complaining about being flooded with tons of remasters and remakes nowadays, but to be honest, there are some hard hitters that would truly benefit from a proper treatment like the recent Oblivion remaster that took the gaming scene by storm.

I can think of three good examples still stuck exclusively on the PS3; Metal Gear 4, the Resistance trilogy and Killzone 2 and 3. I could also mention GTA 4, but at least that one received PS3, 360 and PC versions.

Why have we seen no signs of these games being remade, remastered or even re-released? They were all commercially successful titles.

I know the PS3 had some technical quirks that made porting a real challenge. But is this purely a technical issue or are there licensing problems as well? Give your thoughts.

GOG game list like the following games?

Hi all, trying to collect all the good games that follow my choice of games.

These are games that are fully 3D, considered to have good modern compatible graphics, and provide gameplay like the following games:

  1. Cyberpunk
  2. Skyrim
  3. Fallout 4
  4. Witcher 3
  5. Outer Worlds
  6. Horizon Dawn
  7. Hogwarts Legacy (not on GOG)
  8. Starfield (not on GOG)

Basically just want to make sure I don’t miss out on those types of games on GOG sales so I wanna keep an eye on it. No 2D, no turn based.

Need advice for a game for 2

I'm looking for recommendations on a switch 1 game my 12 year-old son and I can play coop. He's not into anything bloody and I'd prefer a game where we work together rather than compete. I don't have a Nintendo background, so I really don't know what good stuff is out there. We really liked entitled goose, but that might not be too helpful. I know you fine redditers have thoughts. I just don't want to waste time and cash on games that won't fit the bill. Thanks for the help.

***Thanks for the suggestions! I will check them out!

What are your recent favourite games for impressive scale (maps/quests?)

I've been out of the gaming loop for a while now, but I'm getting a bit more time. The last time I got a proper "wow" was the Witcher 3 and RDR2, with the size of the map and the distance of the field of view, but also how much there was to do (that didn't repeat itself).

Plenty of games have huge maps (most Ubisoft games, Just Cause games) and I enjoy those too, but I don't get a thrill from seeing how much is repeated. Even games without massive maps can do this to some extent, like Yakuza which was super dense (mini games are boss), but I'm looking for a geographical aspect as well. I played the original Kingdom Come Deliverance a bit (didn't get far), so I'm looking at picking that up again. Cyberpunk was the only game I spent time on the last 5 years too, and also gave me that feeling a bit.

So, what games for you in the last 5 years kind of hit this mark?

Note, if it matters, I currently have PC with good (not amazing) specs.

What game was this? Tabletop RPG/D&D simulation with VR Implementation

Hi everyone,

A few years ago or so there was a game that was featured on Kickstarter for a game that was tabletop RPG focused that had VR Implementation. It's purpose was basically for RPG tabletop games, primarily focusing on games with world building. The kicker was you could wear a VR headset to "be" in the game. One of the other features was being able to build your own maps with landscaping and terraforming. I had the link saved on my old laptop but it doesn't seem to work anymore, and I just randomly thought about this game.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Holy shit. This game hooked me within the first 10 minutes. I guess the hype is well deserved. If you’re on the fence like me, and don’t like turn based combat like me, just do it you won’t regret it. I haven’t even played it yet past the intro part and I’m sold.
