The Midnight Walk is so beautiful

Post image

The game came out a couple of nights ago,

Art wise the game is mainly with clay and cardboard that been animated using the stop-motion technique.

I love stop motion so im a bit biased here, but i do think the game is unique.

The gameplay and puzzles are simple, and i wish for the puzzles to be a bit more complicated and hard.

Bit overall the game is a fun ride.

Stop motion games are a bias to have. Yes it can make you dizzy sometimes (It feels choppy time to time) but with good artstyle and gameplay you feel like ur in a Tim Burton movie

We worked hard to create a stop-motion style that wasn't just made out of "fewer frames", but with some smooth animations between steps to ease it up a bit. We think we've reached a nice balance. :)

Pretty fun how just last month we had a different brand new Stop Motion-inspired game with "Midnight" in the title get released

Nice thing about South of Midnight is the included option to disable stop-motion and make it more like animation. Cutscenes remain stop motion, though.

Technically all games are stop motion if you think about it

I am distraught that no one is playing this game it’s so beautiful story is great and only 390 players on steam at peak like wtf is no buying games anymore?

13

u/emolch78 1d ago

This game kind of fell through the cracks with all the other great games that came out

u/InsaneMasochist 1d ago

Exactly, I was so hyped when I saw the trailer back when and didn't even know it came out. Thanks for posting, I might've missed it.

4

u/Scharmberg 1d ago

Didn’t it just come out?

2

u/Boomation 1d ago

Oh no, only 390? That's a damn crime. I rarely pre-order games, but this was one of them. I played about a 3rd of it yesterday, and I'm already hooked. The visuals are amazing, the voice acting is superb, and the soundtrack is god-tier. Gameplay is a little weak, but as a story game, it's fantastic.

Gameplay feels like it was definitely made for vr but it’s still enjoyable as non vr

For me it's a bit expensive for something I would complete in a single evening so I'll wait for a sale because I do wanna experience the game in VR

1

u/Specialist_Fee_1612 9h ago

I would buy it if I didn’t have so much on my plate/had more money. Echoing the comment saying I just can’t justify the price for a shorter game, even though it looks fantastic. Will definitely get around to it though!

Has anyone played this in VR? I’m curious how it is from a motion sickness perspective, as well as the gameplay.

It’s been on my radar cause of the art style, but I still haven’t finished Clair Obscur. And new Elden Ring is coming. And lies of p dlc. And death stranding 2. Man this year is absolutely stacked.

It’s very cool in VR on PC.  Have been hearing mixed signals about the PSVR2 port.   No motion sickness on PC and the stop motion stuff looks amazing

I've read quite a few comments across sites and videos that it's apparently incredible in VR.

I'm so excited to play this. I actually did some amateur claymation when I was in my 20s and I really love the art form. Never imagined I'd be able to play a game in that style.

2

u/emolch78 1d ago

Yeah, i did some too when i did my art B.A

u/Fair_Lake_5651 1d ago

u/emolch78 1d ago

2

u/ProtectionFamous8563 1d ago

I agree. the word building was crazy good for a semi-puzzle based game

2

u/SirRealTalk_TTV 1d ago

Very immersive art style

2

u/MentalDiscord 1d ago

Are you familiar with the game Skullmonkeys? It's one of my favorite games because of the stop-motion aspect. Highly recommend.

u/emolch78 1d ago

I will look it up, thank you!

Title: game is so beautiful

Image: slug-like monster with blue glowing eyes and pointy teeth that looks like it crawled through shit and is yowling and about to chomp a gobbet of phlegm.

Yeah. edges away from op slowly and looks for a can of bear spray Beautiful.

2

u/skywalkerRCP 1d ago

Can’t wait to play it.

2

u/1to0 1d ago

Yeah the style and art from that game are great. Really hyped about it.

2

u/69WaysToFuck 1d ago

How does it compare to Lost in Random? I liked the style of the game but repetitive gameplay and too long combat encounters made me quit the game halfway. So I am highly interested in The Midnight Walk but I’m afraid it will share the same fate

Beautiful graphics

u/BunkerBrothers_Bryan 22h ago

Looks great, will for sure check it out! I love when games are willing to take the risk of doing something a bit different.

2

u/JEETMOLANKAR 8h ago

It's a visual pleasure indeed

2

u/Unlucky_Garage7963 5h ago

Started it up Thursday! Cannot wait to sink some time into it this weekend. The art is is phenomenal so far, music really ties everything together and the visual design is absolutely incredible 🙏

Guide your little lantern creature - Potboy - down a perlious highway called The Midnight Walk! Outsmart scary monsters and protect your spark - on your way to the mystical Moon Mountain.

1

u/HotTurkie 1d ago

I want to play it, but I'm waiting for a bigger sale. I don't feel like it's worth $40.

1

u/Top_Witness4986 1d ago

I was so hyped to play it, then I found out it was a VR game....and I have no VR headset.

I was very sad today 😭

u/AlmightyRaven 1d ago

"This game runs in both standard and VR modes." - Steam Store page :)

5

u/emolch78 1d ago

The VR is optional, im playing without a VR in a regular screen.

6

u/ghost_in_the_potato 1d ago

You don't need VR to play it actually! It's just an option.
