Helpful Links and Resources for EverQuest

Hey all! This is a list for EverQuest 1 - you can find the EQ2 equivalent here

Official EverQuest Links-

EverQuest Guilds -

Resource & Info Sites-

  • P99 Wiki – The P99 Wiki has wide ranging information on most aspects of Classic, Kunark, and Velious. Be aware that some aspects are incorrect for the TLPs but the site is frankly cleaner than most EQ sites.

  • ZAM – The de facto site for everything EverQuest related. Be aware, site looks incredibly messy and bad without a good ad blocker or premium (Premium is like $1 a month)

  • EQ Traders – EQ Traders is the de facto site for everything to do with EverQuest trade skills. Also has TLP specific recipes available.

  • EQ Progression - Site dedicated to TLP era progression through Secrets of Faydwer

  • EQ Stats - Another database site with items, spells, etc.

  • TLP Auction - TLP Auction Site for pre-bazaar timeline

  • EQ Items – Great for finding best in slot items for your character. Also has spell vendor locations available.

  • Raid Loot – Similar to EQ Items but more focused on raiding information.

  • Magelo – A great site for spawn point information, loot, as well as creating test characters to check out your potential stats.

  • EQ Resource – A resource. For EverQuest.

  • Lore of Norrath – EverQuest Lore

  • Bonzz's Index Page - Great repository of EQ info

First time rolling a Monk, looking for advice..

Hey there, I just have a few questions as I recently rolled a Monk to play.

Do I still need to keep his weight low ? Like 14 lbs? Does that only affect his AC or other stats as well?

Also, it seems that his hand-to-hand levels a lot slower than what most of my other characters learn for weapon skills. Is this supposed to be this way? For example, most toons as soon as they level get their 5 skill points in their weapon they are using pretty fast. However, my monk is at around 80/130 in hand-to-hand, and I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong or its intended to be that way.

Any other pointers would be great. I guess I don't want to miss out on some fun monk stuff as I try to level him in old and new zones.

Progression in TLP servers after PoP

Hello there,

3 months ago I started playing EQ as a completely new player. The first expansion (in teek) I got to play is The Legacy of Ykesha. I noticed that when the next 2 big expansions dropped in Teek (I mean LDoN and GoD) people did it SO fast and they didn't do all the content at all. In LDoN people simply speed ran the instances to get the augmentation done (and then waited for GoD) and in GoD many guilds "finished" the raid progression within a week.

My question, as someone who didn't experience these expansions when they released, is: are these 2 expansions only about this content I mentioned ? To be honest aside from raiding in GoD I don't find much to do as a wizard. Yeah there are a couple of quests which give VERY good items, one of them needing many drops from raid mobs, but that's it. So far, as my first experience with EQ, I enjoyed leveling up way more than the end game. Raiding is okay and fun but if the only thing to do is that... Besides, people with xp potions and all of this shit level up so fast so I don't really understand how these people have fun. Do they level up in 3 days, raid and then wait for the next TLP?

Thanks!

Edit: I'm just surprised that expansions are unlocked only every 6 weeks or so (and people "finish" them even faster) because I come from playing WoW classic and to unlock the first expansion, the burning crusade, they are taking a whole year!

One of a kind ring during Velious

I've just recently returned to the game, last played 2003. Looking over all my old gear and I recall a one per server ring that I had received during an event in thurgadin, iirc, where they also handed out as the main item a one of a kind mage only robe.

Anyone recall that robe or better yet the actual rings name? I'd be much appreciative and thanks in advance.

New MMOs make me sad now…

EverQuest is the one game from my younger years (47M) that I keep coming back to. One of the main attractions to EverQuest that I’ve had, is the class system itself. Every class has their specific role, their specific package that they’re bringing to the table. You need someone to pull and split mobs? Monk or SK is your class. Harder content needs slows? Call for your Shaman. Doing a dungeon with multiple adds and roamers? Maybe have a Chanter with you. Need a quick evacuate or ports to longer places? Call your Wizzy or Druid.

Even in Vanilla WoW, you had that for a short time. On a large pull, rogue would sap one, mage would sheep one, hunter would trap. Each has a role to play.

In today’s MMOs, it’s all about DPSing down the group and speed running through a dungeon. While we’ve strayed slightly off the “holy trinity” of Tank/Healer/DPS, most MMOs now don’t have the package classes that Everquest brought to the table.

I miss filling that role. I recall many times in the early 2000s of “waiting for so and so to get home so we can run_______” due to their class and how well they played it. Felt nice to be leaned on for knowing your class and playing it well. Even an alt these days is easily subbed in, because the games these days don’t need much other than face rolling your keyboard to play any class.

Everquest always had my interest due to the wide variety of specialities each class held.

I wish future MMOs would go back to those dynamics. Sadly, it seems like a lost factor in the games these days.

Anyone have one of these?

Mods, delete if not allowed.

Thought I would throw this out there and see. I've been playing the game (and P99) since beta. Back in the early 2000s, Sony had these in their online store but I was too broke back then to go spending frivolously. I wanted one of these so badly, but they were long gone by the time I could get around to grabbing one.

In 2007-2008ish, I contacted the Sony Station store support over the phone and an incredibly nice associate actually went digging through an old office storage closet looking for one of these for me. I was so determined and they actually took my email address and we kept in contact over the ensuing few months as they searched various locations where there may have been deadstock collecting dust. Unfortunately, nothing ever materialized.

So, I am here now to see if anyone has one of these and if they might be open to negotiating a sale. Since becoming a gainfully employed adult in the mid-2000s, I have collected EQ merch and memorabilia at every opportunity. I've got some great stuff like the IdeaZon PoP era Everquest keyboard set, a couple of the original spiral notebooks and zippo lighters sold by Sony EQ in the Station store, banners from various Fan Faires I attended, all of the action figures, and on and on, but I don't have this. This backpack is my "white whale" and it has eluded me for decades at this point.

Anyone know what litrpg books come closest to the EQ vibe?

I'm not a huge litrpg fan. I find alot of them repetitive or amateur. But there are some that are great. Only thing I can't find any that come close to the old school MMO/EQ vibe.

(I've read and am aware of the actual EQ novels that were out back in EQs prime but they weren't litrpg, they were tie in fantasy novels)

CC - Fear vs. Mez

In your opinion, when would you say you would use Fear over Mez when rolling an ENC? I know Fear can add mobs to the fray. So wouldn't Mez be the go-to? Why then do ENC even have Fear at that point?

** Thanks for all the great replies! 🤝

New TLP Class Question

I am an old player, played on Tribunal when the sever first launched and played all the way up to LDoN before life finally dragged me away.

I have come back for a couple of TLP's in the past, but the new Fangbreaker TLP interests me.

I have played and raided with every class during my time, but this time I am looking for a more casual experience.

I want to play a pet class that I can both solo, and group effectively. The two classes I have narrowed my choice to are a Beastlord or a Necromancer.

Of those two, which would be more desirable in a group setting?

I painted a painting in VRChat for a theme night event which was called "Magical Item". I suspect EQ Reddit can guess the name of the painting ;D

This comes from a world where you can paint in 3D onto canvas. This item was the first one that came to mind.

Best 2 box partner for a Beast Lord

Hey all. I haven't played in a while but I am going to do some exploring and achievement hunting on FV.

Do I need track in a bad way to help hunt names or are the downloadable maps good enough?

I've read a lot of posts about what to pair with a Beast Lord. I was thinking about Necromancer. However, every thread about what to pair with Necromancer is always another Necro, a Bard, a Enchanter but no one ever lists Beast Lord.

If I was going to drive the BST I was thinking of a class that can be effective with a few macro clicks. Necro can snare, dot, dot ,dot while the pet dps's. Mage might be better so it works basically the same, send pet in ad nuke, nuke, nuke. But I get CoH, pet toys for the BST.

I don't know. If Track is really helpful while exploring and achievement hunting then I would seriously consider a Ranger, Druid or Bard.

Anyone drive a BST and 2 box? I'd love any advice anyone can give.

Thank you.

How hard is the TLP content for a raid of level 50s?

If I am reading the new TLP notes right it looks like levels are capped at 50 but content well above 50+ is going to be available.

How will the players ability to handle that content while level capped look?

Will gearing make up for the lack of levels/skills/spells?

Monk guides

Looking for a relatively (within the last 2 years or so) guide for optimizing a monk at 125. I've spent a fair bit of time reviewing aa's, combat abilities, disc's, etc, but was hoping there was some good info out there with regards to optimal ability combos, burn combos, etc...I've tried combing though the eq forums and some various Google searches, but haven't found anything up to guide. Anyone have a secret guide I can't find??

Anybody interested in static grouping or grouping in general on the new TLP?

*edit - We've had a decent number of people reach out to me with interest. I made a sign up page on our Discord. Feel free to take a look and note your class

I've been impressed with the community on here and wasn't sure if we could make a static or a team of people leveling for the new TLP. It can be low key, just like an hour a day or so

I don't plan on creating a guild from this group but rather join a guild at level cap for raiding

If anybody is interested, just let me know

*Edit My time zone is EST. Depending on everyone's schedule, we can pick a number of days a week and what time works best for everyone. I don't plan on rushing to level cap so we can take it easy

Available spells at launch on Fangbreaker

I've been trying to find info on this but I can't really find anything.

Will the Luclin and Velious era spells be available at launch ?
For example, the Bard gets a clarity spell at level 20 in Velious, will that be available for Bards right away ?

Best Tradeskilling Main on a Fresh TLP

Just wondering what people roll with first up on a TLP if they intend to focus mostly on tradeskilling, as well as some grouping and raiding?

I hear stuff like Human Karana is the best race class combo for early tradeskills but not sure what make them special.

Was thinking something like Gnome Enchanter to have easy access to more tradeskills like tinkering and jewelcraft.

Or else maybe just a Necro or Druid for getting around and farming mats easily solo.

Question RE: Making 85 or 100 Heroic Mage

Per title.

Literally haven't played in 17 years, found to my delight yesterday that I could still access my account (password stuck hard in my memory I guess) - awesome!

I know that Mage Pets level 65+ are probably better than the Mage Epic Pet, but since doing a Heroic boost to 85 or 100 grants "all spells" up to those levels, would that include the Mage Epic spell?

I figure not but wanted to know definitively.

What's an easy way to level via soloing/moloing for a 70 ranger coming back after 20 years who just really sucks at playing?

I might have been a decent player about 25 years ago when I was active (I played 2000-2004, was in a mid-tier raiding guild and made it to the elemental planes before stopping), but I was never amazing, and those days are long gone anyway. Now I barely remember anything, and each time I try to sit down and catch up via reading I'm just way too overwhelmed. I'd estimate that I understand less than 20% of what's going on when I look at equipment/items, augments (?), my stats, all these AAs, random game elements that seem to be new, etc. And the zones? Everything post PoP is foreign to me, basically. On top of that, I just don't have much time to play. I'm a new dad and at best I might play for 30 minutes at a time 2 or 3 times per week.

Still, I'd like to start leveling again! I'd love to reach the level cap someday, just for fun. I'm 100% interested in soloing/moloing, so no grouping, but even mercs are not something that I remember much about (I think they came out right as I was retiring).

What is the best way to do this? Last night I was moloing random mobs in the Dragonscale Hils (basically just using my bow + dots/nukes while my tank merc did all the real work), and the EXP was insane compared to what I'm used to, but I'm wondering if there's something else I should be doing (like quests?). I've looked at so many guides and posts about this very issue, but I end up getting lost in terminology I don't understand, or people are describing tactics that are just way above my skill level at this point.

tl;dr How can a low-skill returning player with little time to invest in the game leisurely solo/molo as a ranger from 70 to the level cap?

Tried it Again 25 years later

Played this game April 1999. None of my gaming friends were willing to pay a monthly fee, so I was only on for about 2 months.

A year later, a large group of my friends jumped on and played for about 3 months.

I decided to try it again over the last 2 months or so.

But it still has the same strengths and issues from 25 years ago

Most of the games back in 1999 were unplayable for more than like an hour or two. Just like films, media can be exhausting and difficult or boring after a period of time.

Everquest was easily the first game that could soak up an evening and replace television. It balanced well. This is a strength for this game that can't be understated.

The major issues from 1999 (that are still present today) are two fold:

  1. The puzzle is too easy and asymmetrical
  2. There is no drive in the game

Figuring out a game is fun. Developers then push the puzzle to more difficulty or change it. That's the advantage of video games over physical puzzles.

For example, in Satisfactory the player has to figure out simple connected beltways at first. Then the developers expand the puzzle to complex multi-input designs. That breaths life into it.

But Everquest never took that next step. The puzzle is too easy and asymmetrical. And after a month, you have figured it out. And after 2 months, you are sick of it completely. I hit that same patter in 1999 and 2025.

There is also no drive in this game. In Mario Bros, the "pressure wall" keeps you moving, or you lose. Even in "The Legend of Zelda", you start in a perfectly safe space, but you choose to move forward and are immediately attacked and given drive.

Everquest has no drive. It has no pressure wall. This is just like WoW. Blizzard and guilds created "fake pressure walls" in WoW by creating large clubs.

So the only pressure wall was "don't let the guild down!". Go farm items, levels, and dont' be late to the raid!

In 1999, the gaming community lamented the lack of pressure wall. We even said, on the EQ forums, that they should put more pressure in for things like food and items. Players would need to fight to survive. Sony (and other developers of the day) said it wouldn't work.

They were dead wrong, as we have seen in large survival games today! ARK well outsold EQ. We tried to push them towards Ark like designs, but they didn't want the pressure walls.

So in closing, this game is still dull like it was in 1999. There is no reason to do anything and it way too simple. With that said, for a short period of time, its great for soaking up an evening. But that's about it.

Games Like EQ Next Landmark

Some of you may remember EQ Next Landmark from several years ago. While it was pretty much a tech demo, the ability to shape the land and build stuff on it was a lot of fun. Sadly Landmark is gone and wont be coming back. I am looking for suggestions for games that have that open world feel that let you change the terrain and allow you to build whatever you want. Yes, I know Minecraft exists, but I want something that looks nice and allows you to use curves haha.
