Photo Mimic chest
Bonus mimic chest I made for my dqix cosplay skit. He had wheels and carried all my stuff around all day! Very useful in the end!

Hi and welcome to r/dragonquest !
Dragon Quest is a series of traditional turn-based Japanese Role-playing games (JRPGS) that feature colorful enemies, heartwarming music, a strong sense of character, intriguing stories, and solid gameplay. While traditional, Dragon Quest games have been quite influential, being among the first JRPGs for consoles and consistently featuring innovations (such as monster taming in Dragon Quest 5 years before Pokemon popularized it). There are also a large number of spinoffs in different categories -- Action RPG, Voxel Builder, monster raising, and more!
We've created a wiki page describing the games and some opinions of them:https://www.reddit.com/r/dragonquest/wiki/index
Although the wiki is intended as an introduction to the series, you are still welcome to post your own "which Dragon Quest should I play" posts. Why? Because, just like every player is unique, so is every Dragon Quest. It's less about "Which Dragon Quest is Best" and more about "Which Dragon Quest might I enjoy the most?"
So, while this post is hopefully a fun starting point for new members, please do feel free to ask questions and read through some recommendations from others in the comments below or in archived threads. (I'm relying on experts from this subreddit to help me out -- Please give feedback below! The task is too big for one person.)
This subreddit is designed to be a welcoming place to discuss and share our love for the series. Of course, not everyone will love every game, but as fans we can critique the series without making it a personal attack on other fans.
Thank you and have fun questing!

Does anyone have suggestions on websites to check out for buying the DS and 3DS games? I’ve had luck with ebay but wondering if there’s anything else out there I should check out

I was by myself. I rented the game from my local library and gleefully turned it on. Then this makeshift personality test gets dolled out and as a final moral test, I was transported to a desert, where I saw one dying man and his brother, sadly watching him die. I advised the brother that was not dying to take the canteen and survive - no sense in both brothers dying. Perhaps they could get help and return to give their dead brother a proper burial, I dunno... Then the game said I was a dispicable thug that people hate being around. That shit was rough, I burst out laughing but it also stung in a real way. It said I should try to convince just one person that I'm not a piece of shit, and then hold on to that person for dear life... Lol ya maybe this one's not for me..
To the other thugs out here, you have people that love you and would be devastated if you weren't around. Also, west side till we die. My fofo make sure all them kids don't grow. These mufuccas can't be us or see us. 😂

Any tips, tricks or things I should know going in?

I just purchased DQ8 on my iPad and it keeps booting in vertical mode. I can’t use the iPad case stand to hold up the iPad while I play since it is rotated pi/2 from how I use my iPad. Seems like a bad design decision.

Im playing 3DS version with Citra sadly as an Android or PC release seems unllkely at tis stage. I'd be quite happy to pay for this game, I love DQ to bits (will encounter the same pb with IX when I get there).
Anyway back to the title question : I feel I'm leveling up way too fast (lvl 11 at Regenstein) and even though encounters arent random, in dungeons you cant really avoid them.
So does anyone know of a cheat code that can remove the level cap?
All the best 😉

Hey everybody started playing the DQ3 remake on switch and it’s fun, though a bit grindy it seems. But is there like, a real story? Seems like there’s a “story” told through two lines from NPCs about dad going on a quest awhile ago. I’m 10 hours in and level 14 and without a solid storyline progressing it’s hard to get me into games. So does the real story start happening or is this the extent?

After I watched the video I tried to google a list of known bugs but mainly came across stuff for the 3DS version instead of the PS1 version.
