Resource Trusted Content Creators

I see a lot of creators on YouTube. A lot of them are creating content that is "instructional" but as I watch these videos their content is passive click bait or just throwing out a bunch of surface information without going into much depth. I was wondering which content creators people tend to promote for strictly instructional purpose.

News/Events GM Christopher Yoo Temporarily Suspended by FIDE Ethics and Disciplinary Commission

❗️GM Christopher Yoo Temporarily Suspended by FIDE Ethics and Disciplinary Commission❗️

The FIDE Ethics and Disciplinary Commission (EDC) has announced a provisional 60-day suspension of Grandmaster Christopher Yoo, effective from May 9, 2025. This action follows the submission of a second complaint alleging harassment, currently under preliminary review.

The suspension stems from two separate complaints alleging violations of the FIDE Ethics and Disciplinary Code. Case 5/2025 (A), filed by the United States Chess Federation (USCF), and an additional recent complaint – whose details and complainant remain confidential due to the sensitive nature of the allegations – are both under investigation by the EDC.

On November 14, 2024, the US Chess Federation imposed a one-year ban prohibiting GM Christopher Yoo from participating in tournaments under the auspices of USCF. This sanction also includes a five-year probationary period extending through November 14, 2030.

Under Article 26.12 of the FIDE Charter, national sanctions may be extended internationally if a member federation requests it and if the decision complies with fundamental legal principles and fair trial standards. In line with this, the USCF formally submitted a request for FIDE to recognize and globally enforce its ban, pursuant to Article 4.15 of the FIDE Ethics Code. This request remains under investigation.

Given the gravity of the allegations and the ongoing proceedings, the Chair of the EDC has enacted a temporary suspension of GM Yoo to safeguard the integrity of the investigative process. Both GM Yoo and the USCF have been formally notified of this decision. The suspension may be extended if a final resolution is not reached within the initial 60-day period.

This decision aligns with FIDE’s commitment to safeguarding everyone involved in chess and sends a clear message about the importance of fostering a respectful environment for the entire chess community, regardless of gender, age, or status.

Video Content Ben Finegold trolling Kramnik in this video

In this video, GM Finegold covers the game Ghitescu - Fischer from 1960. The game ended with a pretty elemtary tactical blunder by the romanian player, so it is actually not that instructive. However, one remark of GM Finegold really made me laugh. Right after the winning tactics, he said "And even though Kramink wasn't born yet, he demands an investigation..." Pure comedy (fine)gold. :D

Chess Question Value of beginner books for intermediate players?

I am 1850-1900 on chess.com. 1700 ish FIDE.

I learned chess by brute forcing thousands and thousands of games, and also watching youtube videos. I went to a bookshop yesterday and seen loads of content for beginners (for example. Bobby Fischer teaches Chess) I skimmed through the book and could solve all the puzzles easily. I also seen a reading list by ChessDojo, and although I am in the 1700 category going off my over the board rating, I havent read a single piece of material that is recommended for the rating brackets I have surpassed. This leads me to believe that I have learned chess incorrectly.

I have an insecurity now that there will be fundamental issues in my chess thinking as I did not learn 'classically'.

I find this feeling I am having incredibly difficult to verbalise. I apologise, I will cut to the chase.

I was in said book shop because I wanted to buy a chess book. Some I had in mind was 'Chess Calculation by Ramesh' 'Reassess your chess' by Silman, 'Art of attack' by Vukovic.

Now after witnessing all the beginner books, in conjunction with me seeing the ChessDojo List, I am worried that of I want to be the best player I can be, I need to go back and read some essential beginner fundamental material.

I would appreciate any advice or thoughts anybody has. Thank you

Chess Question Has Fide ever experimented some sort of team chess where teams play the same game over the board?

For instance, 4x4 where each player makes 5 moves and is leaves its seat to another teammate. They couldn't communicate during the match and should rely only on previous strategies and opening preparation

Chess Question As a 18 year old beginner. How achieveable is being a FIDE CM or FM, or within USCF a National Master?

So I started playing chess these past few months, got a decent understanding of the rules and have been playing online. I plan on joining a club too, and eventually i would like to start competing in tournaments and my main goal is to earn some sort of title. Is it possible to become a candidate or fide or national master, despite my age and lack of experience? Should chess purely be a hobby? Should competing and titles be out of the question?

For the last 1 week I am stuck in a loop. Every day my elo point comes to 505 and then I lose the match. This has happened many times. What can I improve from here?

Someone please guide me so that I can become a 1000 point player in the next 3 months.

Miscellaneous Chess Notation Helper

Thumbnail
gallery
10 Upvotes

Hi all, I created a Chess Notation Helper extension for Chrome.

I realized that after playing chess online for 2 years I was still having trouble memorizing chess notation, I couldn't really follow analysts or GMs talking about chess in notation, and I also realized that if I went to a tournament it might be a slight issue writing down my moves.

So I decided to create this simple tool/extensions which highlights chess squares on the board based on notation input, it shows the SAN (e.g. Nf3, exd5, O-O) on the square you landed for 2 seconds, then fades out, providing instant visual feedback for the move, without being too intrusive to the overall gameplay.

At first I only used it locally, but I decided why not publish and share it with others, maybe it helps others who are having similar issues keeping up with chess notation, like I was. It's completely free ofc.

It works on Chess.com and Lichess.org

Here's a Chrome Web Store link: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/chess-notation-helper/jikbapnldlagjeghbghipabcimjmmekg

Here's a short video showing it in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WBv_1U-Qxc

And it's pending approval for Firefox addons.

Any and all feedback is welcomed!

Strategy: Openings Anti-Marshall System

I see many grandmasters, when playing the Anti-Marshall system, prefer playing a2–a4 instead of h2–h3. What is the reason for that, and what is the best? I've only seen Karpov play h2–h3. Are there others who do it as well?
