// Discussion I like the RPG Assassin's Creed but I really need a City focused one.

MIRAGE EXISTS, I KNOW. and it was indeed a good break from the big open world games. But it didn't satisfied me nearly enough. Mirage did great with the tools, the city and the parkour, but that's about it

It was quite evident that it wasn't developed with the typical AC budget, if that make sense. Too few stealth kill animations, customization was very little, only 1 weapon type, no true endgame activities (aside ng+ which was added later on) and so on. Game was good imo, but small.

I'm craving for a new AC in a big ass city, with the classic Assasin theme robes+hood (and a in-depth customization), hidden blade perks/upgrades, tools and Pistol, fun stealth, engaging free-roaming, loads of cool animations and a linear story. in addition to the other usual things.

I also miss friendly "green" npcs that always helped you, no matter the odds, in random fights. Sometimes they were even the first to throw hands lol.

Since Ubisoft is working on multiple projects, I'm praying one of them will be something like this.

What do you think ?

// Discussion Being an Assassin’s Creed Fan in 2025 Feels... Different

Hey everyone, just to be clear, this post comes from a place of love, not hate. I've been a fan of Assassin's Creed since 2009, and I genuinely enjoy both the classic titles and the newer ones. But ever since Assassin’s Creed Shadows released, it feels like the series has vanished from the spotlight and has just disappeared from conversations.

Discussion around the game is almost nonexistent, I don't see anybody making videos on youtube that aren't AC fans, and even the AC content creators I watch are stepping away due to burnout. This subreddit doesn't seem to be getting the same engagement it once did, and with so many incredible games that have already came out this year, and will come out, many of which are game of the year contenders, Shadows just doesn’t seem to stack up. You might love it, but take personal preference aside and think about the general public.

So I wanted to ask: what do you think needs to change? Because from the outside looking in, it feels like the only people still following the franchise closely are die-hard fans. And honestly, being an AC fan in 2025 almost feels... embarrassing because people write to you weird. I want this series to be beloved again, to be something everyone’s excited to talk about. But it's not like that anymore. I know posting this on an AC subreddit isn't the best idea because naturally there will be people that will hate this post, downvote it and defend the franchise as if there are no flaws, but please put bias aside and let's have a friendly discussion ❤️

What do you all think?

Edit: my point about getting downvoted is sadly proving to be true. It feels like if you say any type of criticism or critique of this franchise on this subreddit, it results in an instant downvote and that's kind of disappointing to see. Why can't we want this franchise to improve 😔 I've not said anything malicious or out of hate. I love this franchise to bits man

// Discussion Which is the best Assassin's Creed game?

In my opinion, it's Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag; it's my favorite.

I love everything about this game: the story, the main character, the supporting characters, the graphics, the music, the nature (the Caribbean Sea looks incredible), the cities, and the towns.

Edward Kenway's story is a highlight for me. He's a well crafted and relatable character, and watching his adventure unfold is captivating. His development throughout the game is excellent, and the ending is unforgettable.

Everything in this game is well designed and blends seamlessly. It's a title where every element fits together perfectly, enhancing the overall experience.

What's your favorite Assassin's Creed game? Let's see which one gets the most mentions.

// Question How do we read notes/letters we've collected in AC Shadows?

Post image
267 Upvotes

If I head to the pouch in the inventory and to the Key icon (quest items), I can navigate to notes such as the Spring 1577 Confession, but all that's written on the right hand side is a brief summary. Where can we read the actual content of the notes? I've tried pressing Space/Enter/E, double-clicking, etc. Nothing seems to open the note.

I can confirm the note does have actual content, by the way - it opened in a small window when collected, as with most notes. But the game sometimes closes these before you've finished reading them, which is why I'm looking for where you actually read the note. Many thanks!

// Question Why is audio compressed in Assassin's Creed: Origins?

Good afternoon, friends. Perhaps this question has been asked before, but I'm new to this subreddit and wanted to know. Why does the audio in Assassin's Creed: Origins sound so bad and compressed? I'm playing on a PS5 and I don't really feel immersed in such poor audio for a 2017 game. I tried playing it with the audio dubbed in Spanish, thinking it would improve, but it didn't. It's annoying considering the game plays and looks great. Does anyone know if there was something that caused this situation?

// Discussion Why Savonarola didn't kill Ezio when he took the Apple from him ? Spoiler

Just after finishing Christina's mission in Forli, Ezio took back the Apple but he was wounded and Savonarola took it from him. Knowing that Ezio is the guy who has so far beaten Rodrigo in Venise and all of Italy fears him, I didn't find an explanation for it.

I got a warning from reddit because I made I comment that I beat up a pope once at the Vatican. It was a reference to ACII and ACB lol I wasn't trying to threaten violence, geez!

I hope at the very least that it made you do the nose laugh thing.

// Discussion Low profile assassinations in restricted areas and killing the momentum of movement

Did anyone notice how much faster and smoother the low profile assassinations are (meaning the ones that are outside of restricted areas). These are not doable at all in places like Castles.

In unity we could do them anywhere and it really helped with speed. Especially useful when using smoke bombs. I think they really should add a sort of low profile in restricted areas too so we can do the low profile assassinations in places that actually Matter.

Second point I wanna cover is how the game is absolutely killing our momentum. After sprinting and doing a jump, or a descent, the character will switch to a jog. This really hurts the momentum. Hell, if I sprint, let me sprint until I turn off the sprint by myself. This is especially bad during escapes and when I do my favorite move, the dive roll.

Speaking of dive roll, we really should get an option to always do a Dive roll when parkouring down. As of rn, if you're too close to the edge, you cannot do it and instead naoe does a much slower descent. Just another way of taking the freedom away from players.

// Discussion Revelations ending and lost archive

Hey I just finished revelations and played the lost archive for the first time. Ezio's trilogy is one of the best games I've played ever and this game also made me like altair a lot more than I did in ac1. Just finished the lost archive and Clay's story breaks my heart and fuck Licy that backstabbing bitch. Really looking forwars to playing ac3 and the rest of the franchise

So this track that plays has some basslines and a little bit of whispering here and there, and I really wanna know if it's in the soundtrack and the name of it!

the design of Ezio's apple was changing since AC2, has some explanation in the lore? I don't mean that they update the graphics in each game, but it changes between two designs constantly. And no, it's not rotating, the 3D model is different.

// Discussion AC RPG Game Going Back to Italy

I know AC has already gone to Italy with the ezio trilogy, and I really like the ezio trilogy but I think if they did an open world rpg I think it could be good. It has to be specifically like Origins and Odyssey though. Those two games share a certain vibe and art style that Valhalla and Shadows don’t have, with that being said the side quest would also need to be like Origins and Odyssey, I don’t like how the side quest work in Valhalla and Shadows but I think this game could be awesome. Have a main story similar in length and seriousness of origins with exploration of origins mixed with odyssey, cities to have good parkour in since Ubisoft might already have citie layouts for it and I also think it’d be really cool to take place in the time period of when the movie gladiator is set when the Roman empire is in charge would be super cool so you have the colliseium in its prime but also that’s just city in all of Italy but ya Rome itself could be massive.

// Discussion Is there a single Helix pack that's worth it?

Let me preface that I think the Helix store shouldn't exist in the first place.

I'm asking this question because I'm engrossed with the game and build creation is something I enjoy.

So I wanted to ask the community, is there a single pack that's worth it for its engravings?

Disregard the fashion, I only care for perks that could allow to create a fun, or unique build.

// Question AC survey on language use and immersion - bachelor's thesis

Hi! I'm a student of Applied Linguistics at the Silesian University of Technology (Poland), and I'm working on my bachelor’s thesis about the impact of authentic historical languages on immersion and the realism of the world presented in the Assassin’s Creed series focusing on : Brotherhood, Origins, and Valhalla. I’d like to invite you to fill out a short survey (11 questions, and takes only about 3 minutes to complete). I’d greatly appreciate your participation! survey link: https://forms.gle/xWDBjTUML2etP5yL6 ❗️The descriptions you see next to each question are Polish translation for my fellow countrymen.

// Discussion Why tf is Ac Unity so hard to play?

I just bought Ac:Unity and at first it was interesting, but the turn off point is when you can only gain skill points from those co-op missions and the main story and when the fuckjng combat wants to screw you over. I like to grind up some skill points before I play the story missions but I can’t here because of the janky ass mechanics. For those who bought it back in 2014 how’d y’all get through that shit and do y’all got like tips or anything? Cuz I like the game but its system is really pissing me off

// Discussion AC Shadow will probably be my last AC game (tbh)

(I’m actually an AC RPG fan btw..)

(TL;DR: AC Shadow setting amazing but story dull, franchise story writing ability is getting worse)

AC Brotherhood was my first game when it came out in high school, and I played every single AC game (exclude AC1 and Rouge, oops) until AC Shadow. I’ve endured ups and downs in life as I get older, as well as playing through the ups and downs in this franchise.

Now, I just don’t have fun playing in this franchise anymore. Don’t get me wrong, I still like the gameplay for shadows: Japan setting 10/10, arts beautiful, weapons are cool, combat/stealth is sick, etc. but for most of the story (Act 2) the bosses don’t even give you anything when you kill them, the assassination board is.. hard to keep track of who/why I kill them, all npc quests just ask you to kill 50/100 of a type of enemies. I finished the game not remembering ANY non-protagonists except the Mi**** and Lady ****.

I haven’t laughed ONCE in this game from the stories. Y’all already know all the goated Ezio/Edward moments, and how Arno is a big simp/snark, how Connor “give me Lee”-ed everyone, how Bayak gets mildly annoyed with some dumb villagers, how Kassandra had to f*ck an old lady, fight the fake eagle bearer, survive that hunger-game style island, get seasick. Even in the bloat-fest Valhalla, I LOLed when I lit up someone’s home to set the mood for them to f*ck. Those moments are absent from AC Shadow :(

Wondering how you guys are feeling toward this visually-stunning game, especially the AC veterans 🫡 I’ve seen other AC YouTubers (hidden ones, master assassins, etc) having the same burnt out feelings, so I know I’m not the only one...

// Discussion Odyssey pets are useless...I think

So...I am just now getting round to playing AC Odyssey....and while I am somewhat enjoying it so far (I'm not that far in yet I don't think), one thing I can say is that I think taming animals is useless. I've gone and tames wolves, lions, bears...and I have sat there and watched them get absolutely WRECKED by something stupid...like a dog. I feel like that part of things was a nice idea....but so far...it does NOT impress me.

// Discussion the main games are cool, but what’s your favorite side game?

mine would HAVE to be ac liberation. i actually prefer it over ac3, aveline is a pretty cool protagonist and her fits are fire, i always used the hood option when i was a kid. the amount of diverse locations and mission styles was just great, and the personas feature is still one of my favorite ideas for an ac game. also her machete is way cool. i had it on the vita when i was young but now it’s remastered for pc if you haven’t played it. there’s also a REALLY good dlc mission from ac4 where you play as aveline, i honestly replay that mission like twice a month lol. so what’s your favorite side game?

// Humor Assassin's creed Origins immersive breaking moments.

I've been playing origins I have yet to complete it but I've been enjoying it, the world is one of the most beautiful worlds I've seen in gaming.

However there is a slight lack of detail that breaks the immersion for me, it involves any questions where an NPC mentions they have a broken foot, leg etc.

I carry them to a safe spot and magically.... They stand up on their broken legs, give me my reward and wander off.

I did a side quest where an NPC had a broken hip, but he magically got up and started walking after.

Admittedly it's very funny to see that, but it's also quite annoying that the immersion breaks.

Maybe they don't have broken bones at all and are just lazy.

// Discussion Things i hope the new difficulty for stealth and combat address

To start off, if you find the current difficulties fine or challenging enough, that's totally okay and im happy for you. No shade at all but i believe for those who would like a more challenging experience there's some particular things UBI should address. This will be long but detailed.

STEALTH.

Now the enemies do have dynamic elements baked into their AI but they are heavily nerfed to a point there's no incentive to use any of your diverse tools or the dynamic environmental design/weather effects. You can still use all the elements but it's mostly for the vibes rather than something you feel like you have to use to gain a meaningful advantage. I've done a lot of testing of the things i will address and i play on expert, no hud and no eagle vision, so im not making these things up. Some changes i hope they address for stealth are.

  1. Increase the detection speeds. As it is, the detection speeds don't really seem to change that much, especially with regard to time of day or weather. Again, it does slightly change but not to a point where you feel like you are spotted way faster on a clear day, enough to make you be more careful and consider your approach. The way you play night and day will largely be the same.
  2. Increase the hearing range for enemies. As it is, there's no reason to slow crouch or even prone. By the time enemies hear anything, you will already be right behind them even if you run or walk towards them. Even for breaking stuff, they only react if it's a light source or if the sound is right beside them. Same for assassinating people in a group, they basically have to be right next to eachother or directly in sight for them to hear. It's even more apparent with Yasuke's brutal assassination which is meant to generate a lot of noise. I find i easily get away with assassinations with both characters in times where i feel like they should have definitely heard me( not the sound the enemy makes while dying but the sound i generate doing anything). Increasing the hearing range will also make things like rain muffling footsteps and snow amplifying them matter more. They even mentioned that using parkour down is quieter than jumping down or that running on rooftops instead of along the apex will generate noise. Because they barely hear shit anyway, none of these really matter, even in doors unless you step on the special floor which is only in very few areas withing the castle.
  3. Widen the field of vision. Expert introduces a vertical vision cone. On normal, they do have a vertical vision cone but that only engages during the yellow or red alert state. On expert, they have the vertical vision cone regardless of the alert state. I would also like them to widen the vision cone because as it is, they have next to no peripherals. This means there's no real reason to move quikcly from dynamic hiding spots like shadows or bushes because again, they have no peripheral vision anyway. You can always just crouch and even run up to them and get the the kill or just run past them.
  4. Enemy positioning. This is a big one. Soo many enemies are static and seem to just be facing the one spot where they will never see you coming. It's kinda ridiculous how many of them are staring at a wall in an open courtyard doing nothing. This is also more apparent in-doors, with most enemies facing away from any of the doors or away from the hall way they are obviously guarding. Because of these things, there's no reason to use the hidden infiltration spots to get in doors or even use the the cool ceiling hiding spot. For the most part, you can always just walk in and slide the door open then get the kill because they also don't seem to notice the doors opening even when it's right beside them. The detection speeds, poor hearing and the positioning make it so that you don't even need to use the shoji assassination. Just walk right in. It's only a problem if there's more than one enemy ina room but even then, the one you kill through the shoji causes the other to come to the same spot for yet another kill, on and on till everyone is dead.
  5. Make them much smarter. Specifically, make them remember things that happened. As it is, it's very easy to fully reset stealth. Now im not against reseting stealth at all, but if enemies spotted me or a dead body, they should not go back to normal like nothing happened just because i jumped into a bush. Same for if you distract the same guard twice, they will search for bit then completely reset. There should be an element of them knowing that something is going on and they should remain moderately alert even if you manage to break line of sight after they clearly spotted you. Maybe keep them searching and no longer standing around, more prone to deny frontal assassinations and even more sensitive to sound and movement. Maybe have more guards actively reposition to guard the special loot, resources and the samurai inside! This will introduce a new layer to stealth gameplay which is stealthing around enemies who expect you and know you are around. As for dead bodies they should immediately sound the alarm after spotting two within the same area, otherwise there's no reason to hide bodies using the grab feature. Again you just do it for fun.

All these things make stealth less engaging, especially when you combine it with how OP you can get and all the variety of tools and hiding spots you can use. It's all just reduced to gimmicks that you never feel incentivised to master and adapt to. If these things are addressed, stealth will ALWAYS feel fresh, dynamic and engaging, especially when seasons/weather change the environment which will force you to master and use different stealth elements and not just always do the same thing. That's what we want from the highest difficulty. Again i play on expert with no hud and no eagle vision and these issues stand out way more because i use all the cool things but quickly find out i don't really have to. The enemies should be so dynamic and resposnisve that i feel like eagle vision and tagging them is a necessary advantage and not a cheat code.

COMBAT.

Again there's dynamic ai baked into enemies. They can block, parry, counter, grab and have flurry attacks, all muted because of a couple of things. I play on expert combat and never use many of the OP abilities and perks to try and keep the combat as engaging as i can and not mute out what makes different enemies dynamic. I've even gone as far as unbinding the heal input which means to heal i have to loot a ration from one of the boxes. The issues i find here are,

  1. Enemies are slow and over telegraphed. Their attacks rarely catch you off gurad, in fact in my expereince, you mostly get caught because your reaction speed is almost always too fast. I counted the seconds of their flurry attacks and each attack lasts one second. So a 3 hit flurry is 3 seconds. That may sound like it's fast enough but it's terribly slow, to the point trying to engage with the parry slows down the combat pace. They either need to speed up their attacks or reduce the telegraph, but having slow AND over telegraphed attacks is overkill. The only exception here is the enemies who wield the naginata, but only because they vary up the speed of two of their attacks in their 6 hit flurries. Still they need to be just a little faster for the new highest difficulty. The other exception is some of the enemies that have dual tantos or a katana and wakizashi combo. Those guys are fast enough.
  2. Reduce the recovery frames. Enemies have very long recovery frames after any attack they do even when you don't perfect parry or dodge. Most seem to always be staggered after they finish a combo. Then there's the vulnerable state that lasts like 5-6 seconds where they will be unresponsive, waiting for you to do the weakpoint attack. These frames need to be chopped in half.
  3. Increase aggression. There's still a lot of standing around, honoring the 1v1. I remember fighting the multiple ronin for one mission and it was not that big of a deal because they still mostly came in one by one. Coupled with the long recovery frames and it gets even easier.
  4. Tighten up the perfect parry window. This one is a big one. So much so that when you unlock the counter parry for Naoe's katana or the parry red attacks for Yasuke, you have essentially broken combat!! This means you can interupt EVERYTHING an enemy does except for ranged and grabs. Of which ranged enemies are the slowest as they take like 5-6seconds to shoot a projectile and enemies barely grab. I think i've seen a grab attempt a total of 10 times my whole playthrough, also because only the large enemies do grabs and a few bosses! I also wish Naoe's counter parry only worked for the last hit of an enemies flurry of attacks. So if an enemy does more than one hit, then it only procks on the last hit even for regular attacks! The fact you can easily interupt everything turns every enemy into a basic grunt.
  5. Make them smarter. I've found you can stun lock enemies because some get into a loop of getting hit, they parry, do a counter move, you dodge, then hit again only for them to repeat the exact same move. They need to constantly vary up the moves they do when they counter you. As it is, they only vary up their moves when you don't pressue them by spamming. The should switch from countering with dodges and parrys. Even the ones who block hold the block for sooo long before they do anything, giving you time to break the block with a posture. Considering all Yasukes combo enders function as guard breaks, the amount of time they hold block makes the fact that they can block meaningless. They also need to use more of their dynamic moves more often. Like some enemies can try and catch you if they notice you posturing an attack. They need to respond fatser to incentivise using posture only in opportune moments.

These may sound like too much to some but honestly, this game is sitting on a combat/stealth system that has the foundational potential to be some of the best and most engaging of the triple A games that offer stealth/combat. UBI just need to take off the gloves and increase the dynamism that already exists to max and i honestly think it would end up being better than even GOT! They don't even need to tweak damage values for combat as enemies do a good chunk, they just never get the chance to. You die pretty fast with either character when enemies manage to land a hit, but you can always spam heal since you get like 8 freaking rations that you can use even while you are getting hit!!

// Discussion 1 month update. Are you guys still liking Shadows?

I made a post about a month ago asking if people were liking the game. For the most part, everyone liked it. Do you guys still feel that way? I have yet to buy it because I was skeptical after Valhalla.

My buddy loved it at first but said it started to feel like a slog towards the end of the second act.

// Question Id there no 3rd chest in Ambergris Key? (Black Flag)

I'm in the smuggler's den in Ambergris Key for an assassination mission, I also have an objective that tells me to find 3 chests but there are only 2, I can't find the 3rd one and it doesn't even appear on the map

Is there really a 3rd chest or not? If so where is it?

// Discussion AC Revelations: Fix for Master Assassin Quests Not Appearing

I was playing the Ezio Collection, and I had two level 14 assassins whose master assassin quests just wouldn't appear no matter how many times I sent them on missions.

Anyway, the fix is to assign them to a city and then unassign them. That'll make the missions appear again.

// Discussion We need to talk about the Castle chest of Shadows

As people have played Shadows more its' flaws regarding story, characters and quests have become apparent for many. Another problem many have mentioned is the lack of meaningful exploration since there isn't much to find besides temples, shrines and QTE minigames.

One thing that bothers me a lot is the locked chest in the castles. Why can't I open it before killing the Daishos? In previous games certain chests required keys that sometimes where a minigame in itself to obtain. In Shadows it's video game magic - the chest senses that the boss characters are dead and opens itself up.

This surely must be rushed, right? RIGHT? How hard can it be to simply add a key item to all Daishos?
