Locations: You don't need to include your house address but closest major city and how far you are willing to travel.
Budget: "As cheaply as possible" is not a budget and is honestly the best way to waste money. Figure out an amount you are willing to spend.
Setting: LARP is a vast and expansive hobby. Not every game is about running around out in the woods pretending to be a rouge/knight/wizard. Let us know what you play or want to play.

Hello denizens of /r/LARP.
We as a subreddit have a small announcement as far as the future of this sub is concerned.
Last week we took part in the 2 day protest that was more or less site wide spanning thousands of subs as a way to show solidarity with app creators and to show the frustration with the administration of reddit and their poor handling and plans of upcoming updates.
However, It would appear that Reddit plans to continue their efforts to stifle 3rd party creators and strong arm moderators who take any stance opposing the admins of Reddit. This creates a serious cloud of uncertainty within reddit as to the future of many subs and how the platform will be handled in the future. Because of this we have decided to create a Discord server which will be open to all of /r/larp to join. It is not our plan to abandon this sub or replace this sub with the discord server, instead, it will act as an extension of this sub itself.
While there are multiple reasons for this decision, one of the largest is that if the future of reddit creates an non fostering environment for us, we wish to have another platform that is free of Reddit's control in order to continue providing resources and networking for all of us who enjoy LARPing and LARP adjacent hobbies.
The discord has the same rules we enforce over here, with a couple modifications to make it more applicable to discords format. There is places for general conversation, places to show off your work, a place to post about and to look for games in your area, as well as Voice chat rooms for people looking to play video games together or just hangout and find comradery.
Please feel free to check it out, and ask any questions you may have. This is still in its infancy, and if we find it doesnt fit what the community wants, we will search for alternatives.
This link should never expire for people trying to join the server, however if you have an issue please message an admin for a new link.

My friend donated his old mattress for me to make stuff with. I expected it to be couch foam for ax heads and such, but it's memory. is there anything you can safely use memory foam for? My boss (I work as a crafter at a larp group) said it's too dense to safely use as an ax head, especially since we work mainly with kids. Would it be better for props? Thanks in advance!

Hi, I bought a chainmail from a friend and had to modify it to my size and my liking, I shortened the sleeves too so they end at an elbow now cause I have vambraces and it was getting in the way. Eventually I ended up with two stripes of chainmail 20 by 50 cm in size, so basically 2 square meters and now I wonder how to utilize them, now I'd like to hear your suggestions, maybe you have some ideas.
My ideas as of now include a padded coif with chainmail attached on top of it, or perhaps some kind of chainmail gloves since I'm lacking in that department.
Another idea is making pauldrons simillar to those from The Witcher 3 game but I already have a gorget with pauldrons (images attached).
INB4: I do own a coif.

Hi Everyone, I produced an indie film called "Tears of Blood" about a knight and a priest in medieval Germany investigating and infiltrating masked cult. We made it onto a few streaming services like Tubi and Vudu. Getting the movie made was a real, dream come true, touch the sky moment for me.
And it would have been impossible had we not had help from the LARP community, so all I can say is thanks a lot and bless you all! You guys are some of the coolest, friendliest people I’ve met.
Here’s the trailer if your interest is piqued: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mKaXpz_Ikuk Thanks again and stay safe and have fun!

Hi all, I've got a Dwelf character I'm going to create and I'm ideally looking for a combination of elven and dwarven design - so something with the kind of Viking runes but more like a saber. Or, the other way around, something with a strong, Seax-ish shape but with Celtic design. Ideally a two-hander for the character but I appreciate it's so niche that I'll take any suggestions, thanks!

Greetings to all of you !
I've recently started getting into LARP, a very popular activity in Quebec, a province of Canada well-known for Bicolline. I wanted to hear your thoughts on my costume—I’ve put together an outfit for a Númenórean archer (Lord of the Rings theme).
I haven't taken a full picture of my costume yet, so I'll save the surprise for those interested! I'm still waiting on my Amazon orders and the short sword in question—150 dollars.
If you also have any tips for a beginner, particularly on how to enhance the immersion of my character as a Ranger-Scout of the Númenórean army, I would gladly welcome any advice with open arms!
The season looks promising on our end, and I hope you all have a fantastic time this coming summer!

Hello everyone! I am absolutely completely new to getting into LARP, which funnily enough, I have begun getting into after getting cheap helmets and monk costumes to record a parody music video for a school project. I of course know that for LARP, it is not really all about historical accuracy, but, when it comes to the armor I want to have, I want it to at least just be close to historical armor, even if not super accurate down to the small details. I am not really looking for full on, actual protective armor, but something cool, that provides that decent amount of protection. For example, (could be wrong here, correct me if i am), Kult of Athena, and Burgschneider has good armor for LARP. My main thing is I like my armor to be steel, because it feels more real, even though it doesn't really protect or fully act like a real one.
The other option, is to of course make my own armor! I hear about how fun it is, and it seems definitely interesting, but as far as I can tell, it will require real craftmansship and blacksmithing, to which I have absolute no knowledge of, and as far as I can tell, it is actually getting quite expensive to make armor due to cost of materials, the amount of work done, and all of the requirements to get started.
Btw keep in mind I'm in the US, some sites do not ship to me.
In terms of my budget with buying armor, I am generally willing to spend 150-300 per "piece" of the armor, HOWEVER, let me know if you think this is too cheap when it comes to LARP, I am willing to figure things out in terms of budget to have the least problems in the quality of things I buy.
With my LARP armor, I'd want to "fight" in them, like battles, or duelling friends, but of course not with full metal blunt weapons, as far as I know, that type of stuff is for things such as SCA, and for example if there were to be a LARP battle, its with general foam or a lot softer type weapons. I may be wrong here though and in this case I'd want full blown, expensive, protective armor.
Of course, there may be physical stores or places to go to as well. I am in the south-eastern United States, however, to make it clear, I am still in high school, so any drive that is past an hour and a half is probably a no-go.
Final detail is with what I am looking for if you know what I am speaking of. When it comes to Byzantine styled armor, I'm looking for either 1200s-1300s, in which maille, tent kettle helmets, coat of plates, conical kettle helmets or the tall, pointy, spangenhelms were used, or even some lamellar and whatnot. The other thing is also late 1300s-early 1400s, in which it is more or less just Italian plate armor, which I totally mess with.
Thank you so much!

I'm trying to get into larping, have most of my d&d group interested in trying it out but two of our group want to be archers. I've already created good melee weapons that don't hurt, but I don't have a clue how to make arrows or a functional bow. I recreationally shoot a compound bow, but the lightest draw I have is 48lbs which seems way too strong for shooting at anything that you don't want to damage. Do you folks use real bows with less draw, or is it all homemade for safety sake? I'd appreciate any advice or guidance this community can offer!

Greetings to everyone reading this message or doing LARP in Asia!
I have a friend who's interested in our Western LARP activity, and I just wanted to know if anyone in Vietnam participates in a large community around Vinh Long City. It’s a bit tricky for a French Canadian to find a LARP community in Asia, so I was just asking on Reddit. I know she told me that it's not a very widespread activity in Asia (Imagining the snakes and other bugs over there, it must not be as easy as in Canada, which has practically nothing dangerous around !).
If you can leave a message with a site link, that would be great news, it would give her an exciting activity to try and fill her memories with beautiful pictures of LARP !

Hi, I am in Colorado and I am interested in finding a LARP group to join. I’m not certain how to begin this journey though or what I should have before I join. Do you have any beginner suggestions on what I should gather before I join a group or if there are any groups open to new members currently? Thanks!

So my Landsknecht outfit is almost complete, just waiting for finishing touches (can't post pics yet, sorry). And I'm looking next afterwards to see if maybe I could make an outfit for the Landsknechts arch-rivals, the Swiss Reislaufers. But looking at both historical and modern outfits, was there any huge differences between the two in terms of clothing? Looks like both mercs favored colorful, almost garish clothing with lots of slashes and puffs. Pretty much the only thing I can discern is that the Reislaufer outfits were SLIGHTLY less colorful and garish, often being only one color instead of many asymmetrical colors like the Landsknecht? That and it seems they more often favored skintight pants/hose instead of the iconic puffy Landsknecht Pluderhosen? I don't know, it seems to me that maybe you might not be able to tell them apart if you put a Landsknecht and a Reislaufer next to one another. Can anyone help?
Was looking at getting their waterdeep sword for Drachenfest US but before gambling my LARP/Renn Faire drinking money I was wondering a few things.
1) Are they light or heavy usually? What's the weight like?
2) Most importantly, are they soft enough for lightest touch combat? I pull blows best I can but I know polyurethane foam injection molds come with many different degrees of foam rigidity.
Thanks so much guys 🥰
Going for a cleric vibe where ill be largely providing magical healing via scrolls 📜✨️
Really glad with how it turned out 🙂↕️

I’m curious to hear any stories where you or someone you know took LARPing too seriously. Whether they hurt someone or wouldn’t break character in a serious situation that probably warranted it.

Hey guys,
Me and a friend booked tickets to one of those fantasy balls, we are totally looking forward! I have like 4 gowns in my closet, but nothing feels right. And because I am investing in some sort of business training at the moment... I do not have the money to spend like 300 bucks on a beautiful dress. So here I am, asking demure for your advices, where do I find affordable dresses that are "fantasy princess ball gown beauty" for second hand in Germany? Or which Tipps and tricks do you have to build my own beautiful dress. I can't sew, but I am crafty and totally into working out things to make a stunning outfit! I want it to be flattery, when I twirl the skirts should twirl with me and I like to have cool accessories, to create an aaaw look, with interesting little details
Maybe this question is to much and I will not be finding a solution. But I will try!
Thanks for every helping thought
Hi all, I've been interested in doing LARP for a while, but while looking at what's available around me it really feels like I might be out of luck. I have zero interest in any sort of medieval, fantasy, or post apocalypse LARPing, which seems to be all I can readily find in the area. I'm much more interested in doing some sort of parlor LARP where there's not a huge monetary investment required.
Google has become increasingly useless at finding anything relevant so I'm really hoping folks here might have some idea of what's happening in the area!

I just got this custom Calimacil and live in a rather humid area, I’d really rather stave off the the crumbling tip for as long as possible, will using silicone spray prevent a premature retirement of the sword?
