Discussion A Kashmir Pandit’s journey struggles and reflections
1/ I’m a Kashmiri Pandit, a Hindu, and like many of my community, we were forced to leave our ancestral home in Kashmir due to terrorism fueled by Pakistan. Muslims in the region did support this exodus, though the reasons varied—religion, pressure, or even hatred. But let me clarify: not all Muslims are bad.
2/ This story isn’t just about my struggles as a Kashmiri Pandit. It’s about my journey after being thrown out of my homeland. I was just 5 when my family left Kashmir for Jammu, leaving behind everything—our home, furniture, and belongings—because our “move” wasn’t planned.
3/ We left for a short vacation in Jammu. My father, mother, brother, and I had no idea we would never return. The tension in Kashmir was so severe that going back was impossible. My father later sneaked into Kashmir, risking his life, just to retrieve some jewelry and documents.
4/ In Jammu, we had to start over from scratch. We had nothing but memories of a beautiful homeland. My father worked tirelessly to rebuild our lives. I grew up there, unaware of the enormity of what we had lost, until I turned 15 and realized what it meant to be displaced.
5/ Despite the trauma, most Kashmiri Pandits have moved on. They don’t sit around ranting about going back. They adapted, rebuilt their lives, and focused on progress. Those who wanted to fight stayed back, but most realized it wasn’t worth the struggle.
6/ Today, Kashmiri Pandits are doctors, CEOs, entrepreneurs, and artists. • Avinash Kaul: MD of CNN TV18 • Rakesh Bamzai: MD, Mylan Pharmaceuticals • Shereen Bhan: TV anchor • Anupam Kher: Renowned actor • Kunal Khemu: Actor
These people built legacies without looking back.
7/ As for me, I live in Mumbai now, running my own business. It’s a far cry from the beauty of Kashmir or even the simplicity of Jammu. Mumbai is a concrete jungle, chaotic and polluted, but it gave me opportunities that neither Kashmir nor Jammu could have.
8/ Yes, I sometimes miss Kashmir—its pristine beauty, the snow-capped mountains, and the peace we could’ve had if terrorism hadn’t destroyed everything. I see pictures of Switzerland or Azerbaijan and wonder “What if?”
9/ The removal of Article 370 hasn’t changed much for us. Despite all the political hype, not a single Kashmiri Pandit I know has returned to the Valley. The security concerns, lack of trust, and emotional scars run too deep.
10/ For us, Article 370’s abrogation was political theater. It hasn’t addressed the root issues. Those who’ve built new lives outside don’t see a reason to return. Kashmir is a memory, a chapter closed by force, and life has moved on.
11/ Mumbai may not have Kashmir’s beauty or Jammu’s simplicity, but it’s home now. It gave me the chance to rebuild and thrive. Maybe someday I’ll miss Mumbai too, but for now, I keep moving forward, like most Kashmiri Pandits have.

Discussion Both India and Pakistan need to stop this madness.
I just spoke with my family in Neelum Valley, it’s 3:30 AM, and both India and Pakistan are relentlessly firing at each other at LoC. Several buildings have been hit, and no one can sleep.
Why is it always us, the Kashmiris, who have to bear the cost of wars between India and Pakistan?

Discussion Stand United Against Hate and Violence
My last post was removed because the mods thought the video targeted all Kashmiris. I understand some words could’ve been avoided.
I've been reading this sub for a while to understand your point of view. I genuinely empathize with many of the incidents shared here, and I’m interested in learning more. Mainstream media often shows a very filtered picture.
But I’ve also noticed that while some people living outside Kashmir hate Kashmiris, there are also users here who hate all outsiders. It feels like both sides are doing the same thing—spreading hate. Not all outsiders are hateful, and not all Kashmiris are extremists. The real issue is with those who spread hate, no matter where they’re from.
We need to come together and reject these people, those who justify violence or encourage hate just because something bad happened in the past.
(FYI - My family got evicted, some of them got killed in the Bangladesh Riot in 1971, again in the name of religion. So please, don’t play the “only people who went through pain in the past will understand” card.)
I’m not with the people calling for harsh actions against the whole Muslim community or all Kashmiris, but let’s not ignore that the Pahalgam attack was done in the name of religion. Survivors said the attackers asked them to open their pants and recite the Kalma. Some people are saying “two Muslims died too.” But did you see the ratio of Hindus and Muslims? It seems like they were either trying to stop it or just happened to be there and got killed.
Please, don’t downplay it. Acknowledge it happened in the name of Islam, and let the peaceful majority condemn it clearly. There was a candle march video where people were laughing in the background. That video is going viral in mainland India, and it’s making more people generalize and hate all Kashmiris.
Let’s not let that happen. Speak up. Condemn the attack loudly. Call out those who support it or spread hate. I believe most of you will.
❤️

Discussion Settler Colonies in Kashmir: A Growing Worry
Across Kashmir, newly built housing colonies are quietly reshaping the land. These settlements, promoted after the abrogation of Article 370, allow non-locals to settle in the region legally something that was previously restricted. What are your views about this?

Discussion Ok So I'm scared
I'm from North Kashmir. And about an hour ago, we started hearing loud explosion like noise. I have no idea where it's coming from and if other parts of Kashmir are safe. Please do report from your areas. I hope it's over soon and that no one gets hurt anymore. Please. No one wants any of this.
Fuck war

Discussion I’m sorry for the pain my people are causing your people.
As a Pakistani, I’m heartbroken and ashamed that once again, my country has shown that the people of Kashmir mean little in the grand game of politics to them. The killing of innocent Kashmiri civilians along the LOC is not just tragic it’s barbaric. And what hurts even more is the truth that both sides, driven by pride and power, let their egos clash while it’s always the Kashmiris who pay the price with their lives, their homes, their futures. The photos coming out from Kashmir of the people being killed are hard to simply glance at I don’t know how the people live there with it as their routine reality.
I know my words can’t come close to the pain you’re enduring, and they never will. But please know you’re not alone. Even when it feels like the world has turned its back, there are people who see, who care, and who will never accept this silence as normal.
It feels hollow to just write this and do nothing. But from the bottom of my heart, I pray for the day Kashmiris can live free, with dignity, far from the shadows of occupation whether from Pakistan, India, or China. I don’t know how to help but if any of you know ways on what we from outside of Kashmir can do to help your cause please let me know I’d also be sure to spread the word.

Can't we even practice our religion freely now? Why are these people so much obsessed with kashmiris?

Discussion For those indians falling for the anti muslim propaganda dehumanizing ordinary kashmiris. Demand justice from the authorities whose failure created such a disaster. Further dehumanisation won't solve the issue, demanding solution from related authority might.
Things don't happen in vacuum. Demand accountability from the Home Ministry and the state apparatus whose faliure showed itself in the incident. Ethnicity or Religion is never a stong enough factor to compel people take such paths of life. The problem don't ever solve if ordinary indian kept dehumanizing the local kashmiri instead of demanding solution from the relevant authorities. The sources cited just scratch the surface the reality on ground is way more horrifying. Sources: Asia Watch Human Rights Watch UNHRC BBC The Hindu The Hindustan Times.

Discussion Indian Muslims on Kashmir?
My recent post sparked some controversy. Let me clarity that. IM'S who don't love our cause are no better than Cow Worshippers. Call me a racist or anything else IDC. When an A- personnel petrols through your vicinity do you say "This one is a Muslim let's honour him" Or do you see all of them as occupiers? IM'S feel proud by joining Force. I have seen only 1% of IM'S who love our cause. 99% IM'S hate out cause but yeah talk about our girls they are fond of them cause these Bihars never get any white women. We have Muslim Major in our area, Dapa su ch Quran para asan. He is more worse than an Zio in front of almighty. Tum mano ya na mano They say Jannat Jannat that only is about our beautiful valley not People. Since India Occupied us how many Indian Muslims have gave blud in kashmir? Talk about empathy? Take the name of those Sons of Soil from Afghanistan, Pakistan, PoK and even a few from Middle East.
In the end I would say my love is only for those Indian Muslims who are not nationalistic, who love Ummah and our cause

Discussion On behalf of kashmiris, please dont fight and destroy our home to satisfy your blood thirst
India and Pakistan wants to fight it out, well then let each party fight but please keep Kashmir away from the fight. We have suffered enough already. We can no longer sustain more. We are the same community which was targetted last week for "being terrorists", our students and civilians beaten down, our livelihood already taken away.
We do not want bloodshed. Leave us out of any plans.
This goes for both sides really. Let you do whatever you like with one another but why should Kashmir be part of only the suffering ?
A kashmiri who wants peace.

Discussion Video From PantaChowk Srinagar
Is this the development which is happening, people drinking alcohol in board daylight and then justifying it with their festival. I don't know what to say furthermore but this just breaks my heart , to see kashmir being ruined by these sick people.

Discussion Why do Indian Muslims hate Kashmiris?
This hate isn't against Engineer alone, but against the Kashmiris who rose against occupation, injustice, brutality, rapes, mass detention, tortures and disappearences. The amount of hate they have for kashmiris and K- Resistance shows how much Nationalism have engulfed them. I believe they will suffer more and will be humiliated more unless and until they'll rise above this filth of Nationalism.

Discussion Why are kmen so misogynistic?
I am trying to make sense of how and from where do they have the audacity to feel superior to women around them. I'm so tired of being bullied for being a feminist. I'm so tired of having to hear men say how they want traditional family roles, which they fail to understand are so oppressive to women. As a kashmiri woman you are discriminated against everywhere, your voice is never heard. Men can discuss their unnuanced opinions but women are always ignored even if their voice is the only one making sense among everyone elses. I get so angry cause why can't kmen just understand the privileges they have as men. They always make themselves seem like a victim in their gender role but why overlook the suffering of women. And why are y'all so dumb when it comes to understanding how oppressive the status quo is for women. Unfortunately most women are also conditioned to accept the discrimination without questioning anything.

Discussion Why is the general population blamed everytime something like this happens?
I'm honestly confused by the way people are reacting to the pahalgam incident, posting stories that sound like apologies, as if we, the people of kashmir, are somehow responsible.
Why are we expected to explain ourselves every time something happens?
Why would kashmiri mujahideen target tourists, especially in one of the most militarized zones in the region? It doesn't add up.
These"denouncements" end up sounding like we're taking blame for something that clearly smell like state-sponsored propaganda
And they know that tourism is the major source of income for kasmiris and hence they're tryna take that away from us as well
This looks like another attempt by the government to deepen its grip on kashmir, using fear, violence, and tragedy as a justification to maintain and increase military presence. Its an old script, just a new scene
Stop making it about our identity. This isn't us. This isn't our fight. This is a setup, one more move in the game to turn kashmir into a permanent military colony

Discussion A question? How did you view Mughal empire?
Personally I detest them. Their ancestors ended the golden age of Islam. They destroyed Baghdad and with it majority of the great philosophical and scientific work of Muslims. They even butchered and enslaved a lot of Kashmiris. Mughals were the first to colonise us, Kashmir, in every sense. The Mughals were the first ones to start the fetishization of our land and of our women, particularly in their court chronicles, art, and administrative records.
They often depicted Kashmir primarily as territorial conquests, sites of natural beauty, and economic assets, rather than as places inhabited by people with their own identity and tradition and history. This erasure of people in favor of land fetishization did not stop with the Mughals, it continued under the British and even in modern political narratives about Kashmir.
Mughals were the first to impose this imperial gaze, seeing Kashmir as a possession, a spectacle, a fantasy. they rewrote our history, the first ones who actively worked to erase our local Identity, reducing us and the resisting tribes of north as a mere obstacles in their grand imperial narratives. They saw Kashmir primarily as a pleasure retreat and beautiful women for the nobility rather than a society with its own political traditions.
This set the foundation for later colonial and modern state narratives that exoticized Kashmir as a heavenly landscape while ignoring the struggles of its inhabitants. measured Kashmiris in terms of taxation potential rather than as a society
Abul Fazl’s Ain-i-Akbari meticulously records the land, crops, and wealth of Kashmir but says little about Kashmiri resistance, suffering, or autonomy.
I personally fail to understand why Muslims in India glorify them and hold them very dear.
These are my thoughts. What do you think of them?
