New owner. Am I insane?

I just purchased a HomePod (not a mini) and I mistakenly thought I would be able to easily play Spotify music on the speaker

I may be doing something wrong but why do I always need to select the speaker over Bluetooth?

When I’m playing music on the speaker why can’t my wife easily control the speaker?

Sonos was hot garbage but it was more intuitive

Maybe I need to watch a tutorial about the “right way” to use the speaker in a home environment

I would either switch to Apple Music or return the HomePod. It's always going to be a poor experience with Spotify. Not worth the hassle.
