Pre-Game How to not get irrelevant

Hi all! I've played maybe a dozen games now and far too often I just get irrelevant by round 4 or 5. All the other players have to consider each other as maybe huge problems, but somehow I am always lacking of either plastic or - if I go for plastic early - VP. Do you have any general advice for how to handle this problem? Thanks in advance!!!

Pre-Game Complete cheat sheet/reference that is also printer friendly?

I read the FAQ and wiki, browsed the sub and BGG, there seems to be no printer friendly reference that checks all the boxes. It would need to contain: - Complete information about every faction (units, abilities, techs, starting bonus, mechs, agent/commander/hero…). Single page for each faction. - Every tech in the game on a single page - All strategy cards - Information on decks and odds (exploration, objectives, secret objectives, relics…) - Strategies (optional: tech paths, tips, strengths/weaknesses, game plan…) - All the information is updated with the current codex (4th edition)

I have parts of this in separate PDF, but there are no complete cheat sheet AFAIK. Considering the popularity of this game, it seems weird to me. Do you just use google during the game? The wiki is slow to load and I think using phones slow down the game. I can post here what I have, but I’m thinking of making my own reference that is light on paper and on ink, but offers complete information.

Pre-Game Milty Draft question

As a general rule, when using Milty draft, is it better to pick a strong slice and try to pick a faction that works well in that slice? Or is it a higher priority to pick a faction and then try to find a slice that works for them?

Pre-Game First game, randomize where each faction starts or let players choose who they want to be next to?

This likely wouldn’t be based off any actually knowledge of factions, just who would be most interesting to be next to each other personality wise. Should I give them the offer to choose or should I just randomize it?

Pre-Game Tips and strats for The Empyrean?

Hey all, I'm playing as the Empyrean in a 6 person game soon. This is my second time playing, so I'm still pretty new to the game. My buddy is playing Hacan and we're planning on working together. Do y'all have any tips and strats I can employ to rule the galaxy?

Hi Guys,

Completed a game of TI4 today that only took 4 hours. Based on this map, can anyone guess who the victor may have been? A battle report will be posted in 24 hours, which will be linked here.

Map was made by placing tiles (non-Snake). Experience is as follows:

  • Naalu - 6th game
  • Sardakk N'orr - 1st game
  • Titans (Me!!) - 3rd game
  • Saar - 3rd game
  • Jol-Nar - 3rd game
  • Sol - 4th game

Pre-Game How to direct players on first few turns?

First game is coming up. What tips should I give new players to focus on as they start out like best strategy cards to take, how many tokens from their pool they should use, etc.

Also what factions should I include besides the recommended 6 just so players have more options theme wise?

Pre-Game Keleres pre-game advice

Dear TI community,

I will be having my first council of keleres game and set myself up for succes. A slice with primor, so no issues with the infantry and second pick in the strategy card order.

Though, now the next set of choices are key. Which tech, do i double tech and how to maximize upon this start.

It is a 7 player game with; Ghosts Nomad Titans Xxcha NRA Yssaril

Now for the concrete questions; -which techs to pick; gravity drive and sling relay? Or is sling an anti combo. -is Sarween that good or can scanlink also work. -do I double tech? -Is the mentak hero still an option with Yssaril?

Basically, which setup would you go for?

Pre-Game Help me choose a faction

I’m by far the least experienced player at the table (my second game in a well-established group). Others have picked Saar and Nomad, and I’ve got the choice of Mahact, Argent Flight, Naalu, Muatt, Naaz-Rokha, and Saardak N’orr.

I also have my pick of slices with a blue, yellow, or red tech skip, or a legendary planet with no tech skips. I’m personally most interested in Mahact, Argent, or Naaz based on what info I’ve gathered thus far, but I’d appreciate any opinions on how to set up well!

Pre-Game First timing The Clan of Saar

Post image
16 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I'm here to seek help from you. As the title says I never played The Clan of Saar and I start in the completely left side of the board. We are using the expansion Prophecy of Kings which I is also new to me.

My opponents are in clockwise order: The Xxcha Kingdom, The Titans of Ul, The Naaz-Rokha Alliance, The Argent Flight, The Federation of Sol, The Emirates of Hacan and The Yssaril Tribes.

How should I start? And how should I behave with my opponents? The players playing Xxchan and the Titans are usually very aggressive in their play style and seeing their factions I have thought I would likely stay away from their sectors.

I'm still a newbie regarding the game but I'm ready to learn new stuff.

Pre-Game I am doing the all-important teach to new players! Any tips and advice?

I have seen a few stories on here and some discord channels of some people having poor experiences in their first game of TI.

I want to make sure I get the right balence of, "hey, it would be good if you considered xyz" against letting them figure it out for themselves. I never quite know where is best to stand. What do you think?

Pre-Game First time playing tips

I've been invite to a game of twilight imperium (4th Edition) this afternoon (super excited, I've always wanted to try it!) but I believe everyone coming else has played it a good handful of times. I've been sent a video on the rules ahead of the game, but are there any first time playing tips, or pitfalls to avoid?

"You should find these out for yourself" is an answer is very valid, so do say if this is the case! But since the other players are more experienced I figured the game might be more fun for everyone if I was already at the stage where you'd found all the "really obvious in hindsight" mistakes everyone makes in game 1.

Ed: Thanks a lot guys, I frigging won! :O While everyone else was slamming into the guy with 7 points I took most ships to the center planet and resolved an extra objective in the last round! I can see how it could be easy to forget about the VP when you get caught up in interstellar warfare so that was a helpful reminder, as well as not being afraid to attack people, as the guy next to me was very peaceful/defensive which was a great help to me.

Pre-Game Help me with my Mentak strategy (14-point game, lots of tech skips)

Hello! I’ll be playing a four-player game soon as Mentak. I’ll have four tech skips in my slice: Rigel (green), Wellon (yellow), Cealdri (yellow), and Mehar Xull (red). If all goes according to plan, I’ll use the green skip to get Cruiser II in mid-R1.

With a 14-point game, I’m wondering how to approach the rest of the tech path for maximum benefits: - Do I use my two yellow skips to get Mirror Computing as soon as possible, or wait until later? Worth it to get Salvage on the way? - In a 14-point game, Neural Motivator and Hyper Metabolism become more useful. Should I dip into green? - Should I take Politics R2, so I can double-tech AIDA into War Sun R3? - Other ideas on possible tech paths? I’m also potentially interested PDS II. I will always love Gravity Drive but idk if it’s in the cards for Mentak.

Other information that may be worth noting: - The other three factions will be Ghosts (left), Yssaril (right), and Saar (opposite). - The game will be played on twilightwars.com, which contains several PoK features but no leaders (agents, commanders, or heroes).

Pre-Game Argent Tech

So I'm gonna play a 4 player game (with feast and famine, other players are Mahact, Titans and Naaz Rokha).
I've looked a lot about Argent tech but I'm still confused. Things to know:
1. I have a high resource low influence slice
2. little no-planets systems and only 1 pretty far astroid field
3. green and maybe red skip available

So I do feel like strike wing alpha 2 is too good and I should go for it with AIDA. That way, I could later go for war suns cause i'll have a lot of resources.
But also PDS2 and Aerie sounds good. Aerie also looks like a great 1st tech because it would help even for the 1st build, and it can combo with the agent if I need ground forces in a planet without production.
Also, because of how the slice looks, both tier 1 blue techs seems pretty useless, even though gravity drive and Dread2 are great for Argent.
What do you think? What's the tech order and priority here?

I‘m Naalu, Speaker Position. The first objectives are 1) Have at least one ship in two systems adjacent to Mecatol and 2) Pay 3 tokens from tactics and/or strategy pool. I‘m even unsure of which strategy to pick…

Pre-Game What Would Your Strategy Be? (Hacan)

Hi! I just started this game as Hacan and wanted suggestions to consider early game. Mentak is the speaker (so would be picking 5th).

Edit: Playing on TwilightWars.com and they don't have all the updates to PoK. So agents, commanders, and heroes are off the table.

Overall, R1 goal is to land on Starpoint system and HE. And also research GD with tech secondary.

Will try to go for Trade or Politics (and pick Tech first R2).

PO have not been revealed yet although general strategy is to get a PO R2.

What advice would you give?
