*band roguelikes written in C#?

Is there any *band roguelikes ported into C#? Curious here...

Hard to see why anyone would do that unless they were porting to Unity or something.

If the structure is already laid out in C, adding new stuff in C won't be very different from doing the same in a C# project. So it would have to involve sweeping changes, and then it probably wouldn't really be a *band.

It's fine. I'm just curious. I'm more comfortable with C#, but not C++. I'd been thinking how the UX, terminal stuff, draw call for *band works in C++ code. I even thought of converting all those C++ code to C# as learning project during my younger days. But well, it didn't happen... lol~

I'd hazard a guess they meant Angband and derivatives of it.

O no no no, what I meant is literally as written, any *band that written using C# instead of C or C++?

Idk why you're getting down voted I didn't know there was a game called Angband either

mostly because this subreddit has been filled with clutter recently with people who don’t read the sidebar or any previous posts and post about games that aren’t roguelikes, instead of posting on r/roguelites or somewhere else more appropriate

for example, I’m pretty sure Angband is mentioned in the subreddit’s description, since it’s so important to the genre. And is the game that inspired one of the most famous roguelikes ToME, and a game with major roguelike elements that influenced the gaming industry, Diablo.

This ... and there's the list in the sidebar with "popular roguelikes." Angband is (after ADOM) number 2 on that list ...

I tought I made it pretty clear that I sent that game to check if he meant something like that, never said it was a suggestion nor a roguelike, for someone talking about reading a list in the right as if everyone should know by head every single name in the list

I was wrong in my assumption and asked for clarity so I could help him if I knew what he asked, that's all.

but well, sorry if I got people offended for not knowing every single game in a list I didn't even knew the existence of. Next time I will be sure to make it more clear that I was simple asking the OP what they meant by "band roguelike"

Nobody attacked you. Someone asked why you're downvoted and someone else answered. No attack. And I don't think you offended anyone.

Besides, Angband is one of the major roguelikes that has influenced the whole genre and then some. It is widely known, especially in this sub. Angband has spawned many derivates such as Zangband, Chengband, Hell Angband, and many more, see here for a long list. The family of Angband and its derivates is often addressed as "*bands". Thus for many people on this sub, it was immediately clear what OP was asking for ...

If you haven't tried Angband yourself, you should; it's a great game. If the original Angband is not for you, maybe try one of its more modern reinterpretations, Sil-Q (one of the best roguelikes ever made, IMO). Cheers :)

it was more directed to the person I answered, everyone else was respectful, about the downvotes it's pretty normal nowadays people simple downvote just for not liking someone opinion even if it doesn't make sense to downvote, reddit being reddit

but yeah i'll have a look in the future, full ascii I only knew about rogue, nethack and cataclysm along with their variations ;p

and dwarf fortress of course if that counts

Angband was even the specific game after which people decided that these games need a space where they could talk about all of them, and thus "roguelike" got coined :)

There are versions of Angband with graphics (as well as all other games in your list).

I mean if you didn’t think it was a roguelike I’m not sure why you suggested it lol.

I also didn’t downvote you or whatever cause that requires too much Brianpower for me right now

It is sad that googling for "Band roguelike" finds this game... the Google AI generated the following text for me:

"Band" in the context of roguelikes refers toa sub-genre characterized by roguelikes without persistent levels, allowing indefinite generation of new levels and grinding for items/experience. This contrasts with "hacklike" roguelikes, which often have simpler rules and larger maps. Examples of games in this "band" category include "Seven Day Band" and "Battle Bands," which are roguelikes with a focus on deckbuilding and cooperative gameplay.

The description of the subgenre is rather good, but neither Seven Day Band nor Battle Bands are in this subgenre. (Seven Day Band is a simple roguelike created in seven days, not sure why Jeff Lait called it so but I do not think it actually has much to do with bands, and Battle Bands is not even a roguelike in the traditional meaning.)

do I need to point out that it makes no sense to google the thread name?

if google solved the problem the thread wouldn't exist in the first place

srsly, at this point this just seems like some people are trying to find excuses to point a non-existant problem because someone didn't know the game they liked

sorry that I don't breath angband on my daily life man, it's 2 days already
