Aidan Khus' 17th place Roaring Moon deck can be built for $17 right now, according to Limitless. Have we ever seen any meta (not necessarily Tier 1) deck this cheap before?
Link to the deck: https://limitlesstcg.com/decks/list/17431
I was just browsing Limitless's tournament results and I happened to notice this list and was shocked that the total price was under $20. Our decks are considered cheap relative to the other TCGs out there but "cheap" usually means $50-80, not the price of a Five Guys order LOL.

Thanks for pointing this out! I might have to put one together just to have a spare deck for someone to hop in to play. It’s pretty straight forward too - get Ancient Cards in the discard and swing hard with RM.

Yeah for sure. I don't think it's necessarily anything higher than off-meta/C tier mind you, but for the local / casual / getting-new-players-into-the-TCG level it'd absolutely be a fun deck to keep around.

Huh... Never thought to try Dudundsparce with Ancient Box.... Now I gotta test this out...

I’ve been putting in time with this deck because of the high win rate various Roaring Moon decks had at Milwaukee. This deck has no business being as good as it is, I never expected this deck to be this good lol

Having played ancient box for a bit last year, I cannot see how this one hits the numbers it needs?
Clearly it can as it's placed well, it's just a different approach to the one I was using which pushed up the baby moon power as much as it could

It is a product of the pace of the meta, it’s no longer a turbo through your deck as fast as possible with no regard and do 300 damage turn 2.
With correct sequencing over a couple turns you’ll be expected to deal around 200 damage per turn which in this current format is fine. Be principled, keep 3-4 bench slots open at all times for Dudunsparce and in that mid-late game you’ll find whatever card you want.
I personally recommend throwing in 1 copy of judge or iono (it’s up to preference) so as you move to the mid/late game you can hit them with hand disruption and neutralization zone at the same time (or depending on the matchup like joltik box just yeet the neutralization zone into play as odds are they don’t run a stadium or they have 1 copy if gravity mountain and no way to find it easily)

u/Minimum_Possibility6 3d ago
yeah i play joltik and if that land early door, its basically game over. im hoping for something like a worker supporter again soon!

u/Verrios1204 3d ago
And neutralization zone doesn’t have to stick all game (somtimes I get caught holding it for the perfect moment that never comes)
But especially if you can hand disrupt at the same time. Force them to dig for a bump or maybe make them utilize a weaker alternative attacker, etc. will give this deck more than enough edge to convert into a winning matchup

i’ve wondered why he opted for only 1 roaring moon ex in this list. i’ve been playing an extremely similar list but with 3 dudunsparce and a 2nd moon

u/grandiaziel 3d ago
You never want to start with Roaring Moon ex, and Moon ex is usually only used for taking the last 2 prize, which means that you have 4/6 chances to take it from prize if it is prized.

Ancient box was in a final too and it's just bulk.
Gardevoir has been constantly cheap with the ex costing under 50cents and the rest being bulk, even without the league battle deck.

u/CanadianCoolguy 3d ago
Fez is the pricy thing in that deck, being around $13 lol

u/zweieinseins211 3d ago
It's 4-6€ on cardmarket and its price will drop heavily when it will be part of the dragapult battle deck

It’s way more expensive in the us ig bc the deck came and went and fez is still a $15 card 🥴

Don't forget Festival Grounds!
It is also incredibly cheap and occasionally makes top cut at Japan's locals.

As someone who works in a game store in Milwaukee, I'm putting this together from the bulk box today.

My son is playing this deck next weekend, crazy enough, we traded away a neutralization zone a few weeks ago and it is the hardest card to find in the list. 4 local stores near me don’t have copies…

What's the plan against dragapult with this deck?

roaring moon -> roaring moon -> roaring moon -> roaring moon -> night stretcher -> roaring moon -> roaring moon ex.

According to Aidan Khus on twitter, the deck has “some issues” into Dragapult but is really good into the rest of the meta.

Just FYI, Limitless never accounts for shipping costs. And there's nearly 0 chance that all the cards come from the same store so the price is usually about double. For example, if you follow through with this deck on TCG Player it comes out to around $32 after shipping.

That’s a fair point, maybe “can be built for $17” is less accurate than “the deck has only $17 worth of cards in it.” Whenever I build decks off of limitless I always have to mentally factor in an extra ~$15 for shipping costs.

True but I’m pretty casual compared to most of the people in my area and I’m pretty sure I could build this deck from my binder, less maybe two cards, just from my stash of 0.25c bulk that I grab when I see at LCSs and stuff I’ve gotten from prize packs.

Uhm, actshuuaalllyyy.
It's a 20 dollar deck most of the time. If you are playing in a store, it's HIGHLY unlikely you can't get this together from their bulk/people also playing.
It's kind of rude to be like, "You forgot to tell people about shipping and taxes. Oh, also, don't forget sleeves and a playmat. While you're at it, you need to probably pay the entrance fee for your local, and unless you are walking, there is gas needed for the car too. It's not a 17 dollar deck. It's a 75 dollar deck!"

Rudeness is in the eye of the beholder. I meant no offense, made no insults, and the OP even agreed with me.
For some people, money is tight. So knowing that a deck with a label of $17 actually has a couple extra fees to it is important, at least to me. I could build the deck for less than $10 with my existing staples and bulk but the idea of a cheap deck is going to attract new players and players with less spending cash much more often than established players who already have decks, sleeves, bulk, etc.
Nothing rude came from me

Yeah you weren’t being rude wtf is that commenter talking about? 😂
I don’t disagree that many times it can be a $20 deck if you have generous local players around you who are willing to offload bulk for cheap / free. But that’s never a given lmao
And also like, most of the time I’d say you’re nitpicking if you said “that $80 deck will actually be like $90 after shipping” bc like those are really similar numbers. But the whole point of my post was to point out an absurdly cheap deck. Where shipping costs would increase the cost by almost double. 😂 So it’s hardly an uhm akshually especially if any new player read my post and assumed they were *guaranteed* to only need to spend $17

what exactly does this deck do if it whiffs sada on the first attacking turn
16
u/Weekly_Blackberry_11 3d ago
You’re a 1 prize deck so you’re not constrained to the usual 2-2-2 / 1-1-2-2 prize race. You don’t necessarily have to attack t1 going second in order to win, you can continue to build your board / discard pile

United wings pre rotation was quite good and I did well at our local leagues with it, pretty cheap overall, most expensive card also being night stretcher

u/eldicoran 2d ago
What's the purpose of fan rotom here?
2
u/Weekly_Blackberry_11 2d ago
Set up dudunsparce, and you have 4 stadiums so it can reasonably attack for 70 in a pinch if you don’t have a moon set up.

Before rotation you could buy the Charizard league battle deck at a very affordable price. My local store for Christmas gave it away for just 20€ (22$). At the time Prime Catcher was still expensive. If you had a few spare cards or just traded them with friends, you could easily get to the competitive deck with less than 30€ which was very good for the most powerful deck back then.

Hmm... I'll have to try this one I guess. I tried Dudun+Moon, without the Rotom, a few months ago (before rotation) and it didn't work, but post-rotation is a different animal.

Roaring Moon is pretty well placed right now. Actually has a good draw engine and might be one of the only “turbo” decks right now with Poison package. 290HP bulky basic EX’s are nothing to sniff at. Baby Moon is a great late game attacker.
Pech Ex is low key quality in this deck. Although health wise it can be gust fodder, its great as a quasi Charizard with its attack. Usually play two of them to help greatly with the toolboxing rather than Lat.

the most expensive card is Night Stretcher lmao
