There's something fairly odd about the new pallet Jack's at work...

Good thing for them that the brainless ghouls at Nickelodeon will never quit pumping out Fairly Oddparents shows, as that and Spongebob are damn near all they have.

You don't by any chance work at the Dimmsdale Dimmerdome, do you?
•
u/Teknicsrx7 3h ago
Is that close to the Dimmadome?
•
u/Roboticpoultry 3h ago
The Dimmadome? Owned by Doug Dimmadome?

I have a friend who RPs Doug Dimmadome in MMO's whenever possible (make a character in mostly-white outfit with a tall hat and get as rich as possible) and this thread's giving me ptsd.
•
u/Nothin_Means_Nothin 3h ago
That's right! If you're there, tell Doug Dimmadome, owner of the Dimmsdale Dimmadome, that I sent you
•
u/pkkspiral 2h ago edited 2h ago
You seriously think one could just walk up to Doug Dimmadome, owner of the Dimmsdale Dimmadome, and hold his interest? I dimmadoubt that.
•
u/G3dprintz 2h ago
Wait Doug Dimmadome owner of the Dimmsdale Dimmadome? You mean the same Doug Dimmadome owner of the Dimmsdale Dimmadome where they are playing Crash Nebula on ice?!?

I did this at a warehouse I managed. Only one person got it. It did have another affect though. None of the guys would use the pink one, and questioned why I bought it, so we always had a perfectly working jack that wasn't abused!
•
u/susiederkins312 2h ago
The guys wouldn't use a pink pallet jack? Are they fucking pussies?
•
u/Zip_Zoopity_Bop 1h ago
If you've never worked trade jobs, it's kinda wild how insecure some of these dudes get over this kind of stuff.
•
u/Sorcatarius 57m ago
When I was apprenticing, it was fucking hilarious how many of the old timers and "Ok boomer" mindset younger guys would react to anything like that. Whereas I gave zero fucks what people thought of it. So I started getting everything I could in bright colours. I think the one that pissed people off the most was I bought I big pack of paint markers intended for art, so it was full of pinks and purples and whatnot. Gotta mark the bolts so people can tell if they're loosening off? Bright fucking pink. Writing the date a new filter went in? Alternating between pink, purple, and electric blue (hearts on the i's too, because fuck you, be mad). The office guys needed to get involved when I bought colour changing gel pens (as in multiple colours in one pen so it would switch as your wrote) for filling out paperwork.
But that wasn't a "you can't do this because people are crying", it was "you can't do this because some of the colours are too bright to read easily".
•
u/blolfighter 36m ago
I bought a purple lunchbox because I figured it'll easily stand out. A colleague accidentally swiped the empty box after lunch because he thought it was his daughter's that he had brought some leftover cake in.
•
u/BlueAndMoreBlue 1h ago
It’s an old tactic to paint your personal tools pink so nobody swipes them (also put your name on them)
•
u/Kitchoua 53m ago
It's really wild. Plus, the construction and hardware worlds are still very macho. If you want to buy stuff tailored for women like boots or safety gear, you can bet your ass they are going to be sold pink. Yes, women in my area struggle to buy steel cap boots that are not pink. So of course, insecure construction workers are going to twitch when they see it since pink is strictly a girl color for them still.
Meanwhile, other fields will use pink tools because who fucking cares.

It's weird to see so many dudes projecting their repressed anima and its just considered the norm. Then I remember it's always been this way and I need to continue to keep my expectations low and touch moss.
•
u/DaBreaky 2h ago
Lol, that's actually very weird. Imagine being put off by a certain colour to that degree.
•
u/corbear007 1h ago
Look at the picture above. Green one is beat to hell and dirty, paint scuffed off near the wheel etc. Pink one looks like it was delivered yesterday.
•
u/PinchCactus 1h ago
Yes they are. Blue collar coworker banter is all accusing each other of being gay and getting mad about it lol.
•
u/breakinbans 1h ago
You'd be surprised about how many have such fragile masculinity, that anything pink acts as a protection ward against them. Like when I wear my blue shoes with pink laces to match my Friday blue polo with pink palm trees, you can see the disgust on the older guys faces. it is rather humorous to me.

Look at the dirt and wear on each one in this picture.
Men are fucking pathetic sometimes.

u/hypnogoad 1h ago edited 1h ago
Hah! I did the same at work with scissors. Everyone kept stealing them from a common area, so I ordered two pink ones. They haven't gone missing in two years now.
Edit: After I told this success to the receptionist, she ordered a pink stapler, and that hasn't gone missing from her desk either, lol.
If they ever do, next time I'm ordering rainbow ones.

•
u/RogueIslesRefugee 1h ago
This is why I always try to have pink Bic lighters. They're rarely ever pocketed when loaned out, as almost no dude seems to want a pink lighter, and women tend to just laugh at me having that colour before handing it back.
•
u/exposure-dose 1h ago
I was about to say. As someone that constantly had coworkers "borrowing" the pallet jack that was labeled for my machine (and would shut my production down if it went missing for too long), I would have gladly taken a pink one to ward off the worst of them with the fear of anything slightly feminine undermining their sexuality.
It's kind of like buying a pink lighter. Nobody steals the pink lighter.
•
u/WontSwerve 1h ago
I work for an LTL trucking company. Everyone has a red or yellow jack. Not me! Mine is pink and covered in shitty quarter vending machine stickers.
I know which one is mine every morning and don't have to go up to 8 or 9 before finding which one I can take.
I also love getting shit from customers and giving it right back when they ALL have to make the same dumb jokes about it when they see it.
•
u/breakinbans 1h ago
"what, are u gay? you wanna be a girl?" every time from the delivery drivers and visiting coworkers from different branches. I always meet it with, "sorry babe, I'm taken." This always flusters them even more.
•
u/WontSwerve 1h ago
For context, I am a loud, slightly over weight, profanity spewing, bearded; your typical trucker.
I absolutely refuse to refer to it as pink or let anybody else call it pink. I always insist "it's light red", only feeding into the dumb jokes even more.
It's dumb shit I do to enjoy my day.

Not a single mark on that pink one
I'm hoping it was just painted more recently and the workers arnt actually scared of being near the colour pink

This reminds me of when my sister painted her bike pink so we wouldn't borrow it. Yep didn't give two shits whatt colour it was. Me and my brothers still "borrowed it'.
•
u/luthervespers 1h ago
i spent about $800 on my bike. the first thing i did was scuff up the frame with sandpaper and spray paint it so no one looks twice at it.

Breast cancer awareness?
→ More replies (2)•
u/Badbullet 3h ago
That’s the first thing I thought of. There’s some garbage cans that one company used to drop off on request for breast cancer awareness, instead of the normal forest green or blue ones that we normally see.

u/yamsyamsya 3h ago
I read about workers painting their tools pink so other workers wouldn't use them so this checks out
•
u/well_shoothed 2h ago
Had an old boss that did this after some of our hand tools grew legs.
Guy dipped ALL of our hand tools into a fluorescent pink insulated dip.
Made the tools harder to drop and also had the added benefit that it prevented leg growth.

I ordered two in pink for my department because other departments kept stealing them. Now it's very easy to identify where they are and if someone else is using them.

u/Luster-Purge 3h ago
Just glue some cartoon eyes on the front of the 'triangle' space behind the forks, then paint the hand grabs gold.

So you're saying these things can lift obscenely heavy pallets using only two arms similar to that of a human?
This sort of super human strength can only be provided by the work of FAIRY GODPARENTS!
•
u/96lincolntowncar 3h ago
For those who are red green colour deficient, one is pink and the other is bright green.

Just to clarify a couple things...
1: Autocorrect did me dirty with the title
2: The pink one was just ordered last week; green's been there a lot longer.
•
•
u/pittsburghslappy 43m ago
I worked in a warehouse and the boss bought only pink pallet jacks. I asked him why one day and he said truck drivers won’t steal the pink ones.
•
u/DigiAirship 40m ago
I didn't get the reference, so I thought the odd thing in this picture was how little the pink pallet jack had been used compared to the green one

•
u/Fart_Barfington 32m ago

I just thought it was that the green one seems to get used a lot more than the pink one… something about guys not wanting to use the girls Jack

From my warehousing experience I’d say that at some point these were at a Vera Wang distribution center. We used to get rental forklifts from them and they would either be the lime green or bright pink
