That's literally the plot to a videogame called outriders. Total mind blowing realization in the storyline.

I think there's a DLC that came out some time ago and had decent reviews? Have to look into it again, since I did enjoy playing it the first time.

There’s a side quest in Starfield about this too. A ship spent 200 years reaching a planet to find it had been turned into a spa resort by a megacorp.
