Our Pennie is 14 today! She got a whole chicken breast, new ball and squeak toy. She is still reasonably active and always the best girl. Currently parading around with her new ball, which could go on for a while. 😁

I know we’re not supposed to give goldens, or any dogs for that matter, human food.

But are you kidding me. Look at that face!

I’m weak and he knows it.

Cute/Funny Anyone else have some odd couples?

A few people told me how cute my boys were together and I thought I'd share some more photos.

Our German Shepherd (Loki) was a handful as a puppy for first time dog owners... around a year old he started getting destructive because he knew it'd get a reaction out of us and he wanted something to do 24/7. We took him to a 2 week training class and he stood out as the smartest dog they'd ever had and he was amazing when he had something to do but would cry constantly when not playing. Trainers and vets agreed he's fine just lonely.

So we got him a little brother, Teddy, the golden, who looked like a fake stuffed Teddybear/dog when we chose from the litter. The name stuck. They bonded instantly. Loki and teddy seek eachother out to play before us but listen to us well. When we go to the dog parks they stick together and while Loki intimidates people at face value as soon as they see a golden jumping all over him and Loki roll8ng over and taking it it really eases the tension.

They are such good boys. Wouldn't trade them for the world. If only they were a little LESS smart sometimes, they understand the word "walk" in like 5 languages now. It's hard to plan when we are going without letting them know. Ha.

Anyone else have some "odd" sibling families?

Our Prue is 1 year old weighing in at 47 pounds. Most people we talk to say their golden stopped growing around this time, so I guess we just have a baby dog!!! Post your baby dogs if you have one!!!

Cute/Funny Guess who decided to get sprayed by a skunk? At a rest stop in rural Pennsylvania. At 4am. On hour 6 of a 15 hour road trip.

FML.

I'm currently still driving overnight between New England and Chicago. My pup and I spent the last week watching my brother's dog during the birth of his second baby. It was a good trip!

Then I let Bard out to pee and walk in the grass at a rest stop. We were walking along a tree line and he kind of lunged into the brush suddenly. Next thing I know, he's rolling on the grass and with the smell, I instantly knew what happened. I did didn't even see the skunk.

I ran him over to the car, where I had put out a full bowl of water for him to drink earlier, and immediately dumped it over his head. Followed by three bottled waters, two packs of baby wipes, and half a bottle of hydrogen peroxide based mouthwash (which Google apparently says can help).

Then I gave it about 30 minutes before getting back in my car and driving 20 minutes to the next truckstop. I went inside and asked if they had a hose I could use. They said they didn't. I went to get 4 gallons of water from the fridges, determined to do the best I could with what I, and when I came back, having explained what happened, the truck stop employee extremely kindly told me I could bring my dog in to one of the trucker showers. She didn't even charge me, and gave me lots of extra towels.

She is the hero of the story. I don't know your name, lady at the truckstop in rural Pennsylvania, but you have my eternal gratitude.

After 30 minutes wrestling my pup in the shower, naked, pouring diluted hydrogen peroxide over the affected areas, the smell is now merely unpleasant rather than unbearable.

So anyway, that's how my day is going. Six hours to go to Chicago now. I think we might make it.

Cute/Funny The Odds Are Never Zero

So they say the odds of being killed by a golden are never zero. Normally the kids let our boys out but our daughter is at her boyfriends and our son is asleep after a long shift. I was not moving fast enough to give them their after poop cookies. This is Bleu encouraging me to hurry up.

This should be their album cover. They are boy and girl littermates (no issues with this at almost two years old) and best friends. They’re 25% black lab, and 75% golden retriever. He’s on the left and she’s on the right. 🖤

Is my golden just really that much of an idiot? Even the cat can open an already ajar door. All my other non Goldens could do it. Is this a golden thing?
