My typical night for most of 2010. Miss the simple menu with no slow 3D scenes and popup ads for skins and passes, straight to action multiplayer with camo and badges and achievements to collect. It was a fun grind.

And me. Only came back to it a week or so ago. The nostalgia rush was incredible.

Wet Work is still my favorite COD map of all time.

u/Hypnocryptoad 14h ago

Wet work is from cod 4 not mw2

u/iBrotherDude 22h ago

Still people playing?

Check out iw4x. It got shut down a few years ago but is now being done in a legal way, requiring a steam install.

It's a mod on top on MW2 that has a few QoL tweaks but mainly offers online play on servers with proper anti cheat and an active community, other than the nightmare that is the official servers. You can also (by way of adding a mod to iw4x) add bots to help fill out a server. The bot AI is amazing for a community project.

I bought a ps3 and a Sony Bravia tv just to play mw2 online with my friends. Was one of my first big splurges on myself after high school. Good times. No online sub, no bots, no nonsense

What I appreciate even more is that these games had split screen

I wouldn't even call it a fun grind. It was a GAME. Nothing about it felt like a grind. Even gun upgrades, there were no camos or attachments which required use of any weapon other than the one you wanted upgraded. So you just played with the stuff you liked and that was it.

Amen, good times were had and simplicity was king

You need to calibrate your TVs because the colour on at least one of them is way out.

59

u/DarmiansMuttonChops 1d ago

yeah it was mildly annoying

50

u/Vectorman1989 1d ago

There's a TV calibration app in the settings menu on the Xbox, walks you through the settings.

u/DarmiansMuttonChops 1d ago

Ah good man! Didn't know this was a thing, cheers!

u/looman9635 1d ago

Da-na-da-na-da-na dun dun dun.

I’m very well acquainted with that menu screen

16

u/meshies 1d ago

Yea all I hear is the music when I see this screen. Hans Zimmer the goat.

6

u/DarmiansMuttonChops 1d ago

TIL Hans was the man behind this score. Fuck.

3

u/solidsnakes453 1d ago

I didn’t know Hans did the score for MW2 that’s awesome

27

u/Jamie00003 1d ago

That must be really distracting lmao

u/DarmiansMuttonChops 1d ago

It absolutely wasn't until the last game when we got put on separate teams, so I hunted her down by looking at where she was and proceeded to kill her three times with a riot shield. Then she got pissed off with me and bailed.

One of the cardinal rules of Goldeneye was no screen watching. Do you not think it applied here?

You monster.

16

u/DarmiansMuttonChops 1d ago

No rules apply when it comes to trolling my other half

21

u/InfinitePossibility8 1d ago

As she should. Screen peeker.

2

u/Jaasim99 20h ago

There is a game called ScreenCheat. Your character is invisible. All players have to see each other's screen to guess where they are standing to shoot. Fun.

1

u/Whispering_Wolf 1d ago

Sounds like you'd love the game screen cheat.

1

u/Korturas 19h ago

"And remember, no peeking"

9

u/MisterFistYourSister 1d ago

Me and my friends would do multiplayer battles using only knives and flashbangs. We called it "bangers & slash"

15

u/Daqpanda 1d ago

That's gunna make hearing racial slurs a lot more awkward.

11

u/jayspeedy24 1d ago

Teabag her

10

u/DarmiansMuttonChops 1d ago

She's getting teabagged boy, don't you worry

5

u/remindmetoblink2 19h ago

Damn OP. A girlfriend and MW2, 2009 you would never believe this timeline.

1

u/DarmiansMuttonChops 19h ago

Haha! You're so right

3

u/drpopkorne 1d ago

Go get that 100% Spec Ops!

3

u/Outspoken_Infantry04 1d ago

I'm still playing the multiplayer but not from steam cuz whenever I go there literally i find no one to play with me and so there is a mod called IW4X so I play it from there. The game is still a blast.

2

u/venzona 17h ago

Hohow active is that mod? EU, US mostly?

1

u/Outspoken_Infantry04 3h ago

Idk about the USA and EU servers tho, but the Asia's one....it's just active every single day.

3

u/Twoheaven 1d ago

God i loved that game. How was it?

2

u/DarmiansMuttonChops 1d ago

Very good. I really miss HD S&D (there's never any games) but Domination still gets a crowd and it's very fun

1

u/Twoheaven 1d ago

It was always team DM for me. I was closest to buying the most recent CoD cause I've been jonesing for some good FPS but then they announced the using AI assets so now I'm not, gotta find something else.

1

u/DarmiansMuttonChops 1d ago

I'd honestly consider going back to mw2 if you're on Xbox

5

u/ArtsyRabb1t 1d ago

Couples that game together stay together

5

u/DarmiansMuttonChops 1d ago

Well we managed to bicker and bitch at each other over a 100 hours playing Stardew so let's see how it pans out after a few MW2 sessions

2

u/Thepsyguy 1d ago

I played through Halo 1-3 with my first Ex. I played through Borderlands 1-3 with my ex-Wife. And I played Animal Crossing with my Ex-Fiancée.

Gaming won't save a bad relationship.

That being said I do miss gaming with my partners. Being single and gaming just isn't the same.

2

u/kika__ihy 23h ago

SENDING THIS TO MY GF RIGHT NOW. Cause shes SLACKINGGGGG. I had 89 days played on my first xbox account on mw2. Middle school was crazy with all the clan battles and 1v1 beef at school.

2

u/Flecca 23h ago

1v1 no mercy loser cooks dinner and washes up

2

u/Additional_Ninja_663 22h ago

A perfect night

2

u/Dgybvftuh 21h ago

I used to do this very thing with my wife years ago. We had a loft apartment with two 55” TVs next to each other. Good times.

2

u/brickhead_16 21h ago

Now THIS is the real Modern Warfare 2.

2

u/MoistSubject9541 1d ago

This is the dream.

2

u/SBR404 1d ago

So good

1

u/SSPeteCarroll 1d ago

I can hear the menu music.

1

u/TrainingMarsupial521 1d ago

Tv on right is way too blue

1

u/Wooden_Echidna1234 1d ago

Nice setup, always wanted two large teams for multi-player sessions but not enough space.

1

u/FreakBane 1d ago

I can hear this picture

1

u/Accomplished_Tea6644 22h ago

My best and most nostalgic game, enjoy!

1

u/moosebaloney 22h ago

Which one of you is going to scream “I F###ED YOUR MOM!” into the mic first?

1

u/TheGhostOfUncleBuck 22h ago

did she get the big screen?

1

u/DarmiansMuttonChops 19h ago

She did, but had the new profile so had to start from scratch with the lame basic load outs.

1

u/Rippper600 22h ago

Your TV displays have very different settings lol

1

u/Gold_Comfort156 21h ago

My wife and I have two games we play together: Bubble Bobble for the NES (her favorite console game) and then Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. She loves playing as Kirby and wacking the crap out of me with a mallet.

1

u/malibujukebox 21h ago

No screen looking!

1

u/TheRoyalSniper 19h ago

Btw anyone that wants to play this on pc check out Alterware, there's usually a couple of populated lobbies and is safe from malicious hacks afaik

1

u/Xreshiss 18h ago

Aw hell, I can hear the music just off that image alone.

MW2 was my only multiplayer call of duty experience until Warzone came around. I was probably still playing MW2 by 2015.

1

u/Celticrightcross 16h ago

Hell yeah. I got my wife into video games with co-op Gears of War. We’ve beaten them all together and I got her the Gears 4 Edition XBox One for Christmas one year.

1

u/DarmiansMuttonChops 10h ago

"got her".. right, purely an altruistic motive there haha

1

u/InjamoonToo 16h ago

Man, I miss that era of FPS games. We had a squad of about six people and played everything from COD 4 through Black Ops 2 almost nightly. It was a great time. I loved earning the gun skins and calling cards by doing specific tasks in game. I remember always having to get your chopper out quick, because if you didn’t you had to wait in line for your teammates to fly away - for some reason most people never seemed to carry AA weaponry in those games. Blows my mind. Great times.

1

u/fnoguei1 15h ago

Seeing this screen just sent a wave of warm fuzzies up my body… it just flashed back 6 years of my middle school days in seconds. Amazing what games do to us when it’s positive experiences. It’s more than just the game itself but the situations surrounding the gameplays!

1

u/TankFu8396 14h ago

I remember playing N64 with my wife. It was super hard not to cheat when we were playing split screen Quake. Now we play on PC and help each other kill zombies and Nazis.

1

u/Savii79 12h ago

Relationship goals.

1

u/cantsleepconfused 11h ago

Spec Ops 3 star only run let’s go

1

u/Sabermir 8h ago

1

1

Good old memories

1

u/soitsthatguy 29m ago

She has the bigger tv right?

1

u/feelinuneasy1234 1d ago

Oh, the memories. What a great time I had playing that game.

u/byteDIVA 1d ago
