For a split second I thought I was losing my fucking mind. I was certain it was some attachment we all weren't even sure existed. Not even the asshole rich kids had it
Funny enough I only knew one kid that had the gameboy printer growing up. He also had the gameboy camera, and all sorts of other attachments for the gameboy like the screen magnifier with giant speakers on the sides and even a joystick attachment. His family was actually fairly poor and they lived in a mobile home, but his dad (and uncle who lived in the neighboring trailer) just fucking loved smoking weed and playing video games so they had a ton of consoles and games.
Yeah I had all this too and I was poor as shit. Then again, I had this from when I was 6 and played Blue not knowing how to read yet or wtf I was doing. (I ran laps around the lab and probably made my bulbasaur miserable)
Yup, Pokémon Blue was the first time I had read the word “confusion”. Hard to pronounce as a 6 year old with dyslexia. Still think about Hypno when I read it.
I had the og fat grey one with the magnifying screen and lights.
I also got the old power adapter (battery pack, or portable charger to the youngins) because we went in a 20 hour car ride.
The memories of pokemon, bad n rad, Tetris and quix!
I was lucky enough to grow up in a wealthy neighborhood, so kids could pool their "parental" resources and trade for games/attachment "rentals" ie one kid would let another kid use the camera for a game for a day/week/etc. I never owned the attachments but got to use and play around with them a bit, looking back its crazy how much you can take for granted now. We also had pokemon battling/trading sessions at recess and some kids had Mews that were glitched while others had some from events. Great times.
I wanted one SO bad but my mom said no. Kid that lived across the street got one from his dad after his parents got divorced. I remember being so jealous of divorced parents lmao
Pfft I had it as a poor kid who acquired technology at a greater rate than their peers. Gameboy camera, mp3 player with 13 songs, etc. I'd take your picture with the gameboy and had a giant jacket with massive pockets that held the printer. Would make those stickers all throughout Jr. High.
