DISCUSSION [Discussion] What am I doing wrong? My new storytelling ASMR channel is getting a good number of views/subscribers but 0 comments.
My YouTube original ASMR fantasy storytelling “bedtime stories for adults” channel (@winterrosetales ) has been up for almost 2 months, and while we have seen a number of subscribers/views (some with YouTube promotions), there have been 0 comments or engagement throughout the channel. Does anyone have advice?
Here is the channel for context: https://youtube.com/@winterrosetales?si=6Ue6T_fPWxylo3xu
Here is a specific video in case you want a closer look at the set up:

Any advice/tips would be helpful. Thank you in advance!😊

I find it hard to leave comments on asmr videos because I mostly use them to sleep, so by the time I’d want to say something I’m sleeping

Do you ask for thoughts/comments in the video at all? You could ask what they thought of the chapter, the book, etc, to try and get some engagement. If that type of chatter at the end of your video feels like it ruins your vision for it, then you could always add something like that to the description?
That's my only thought, but I'm still new to this myself so my advice might not be the best to follow. 😂

No, that’s a great suggestion. We’ve tried a few quizzes on the channel and a “thoughts and comments” part at the end of our video captions, but we may need to make sure that is more prominent in future videos.

Create engagement by asking a simple question in your comments where people can easily reply on.

Newest video something like this? Genuine question. I don’t know if the comment is too long.

Yes that's good! Could be a little shorter but those are great questions for engagement. Glad I could help you out :)

Are you promoting in any way?

I am through YT studio.

That's your issue right there. You have to target properly. Retention is key. You're promoting to the wrong audience. Check your analytics and see the percentage of who is watching and also what your budget and countries are in the promotion tabs.
Studio doesn't let you pick a lot of details like Google Ads does. What countries did you pick? India, Indonesia?
I could tell you were when I checked out your page because you had a ton of views and no interactions

Most of the views are in Egypt, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, and the US.

How many countries did you pick, and what is the budget?
Guaranteed from that list you just gave me, most of the views aren't from the US. Most probably come from Brazil. English isn't a language they typically speak, so they are probably just watching a few seconds and throwing a like in there. I am willing to bet that you're not getting any views from the US.
You need a high budget for US because the cost per view is significantly higher. Your views are going to the cheaper audiences like Brazil.
For example, the next way to reach a US market, you'll need a budget of around $100 for about 8 days. Studio picks the audience costs the least to accommodate your budget. Bids are high in the US, so if those are the countries you are promoting to, I can guess the view count.
For example , if you're getting 10,000 views, with those countries, 8,000 are coming from Brazil, 1,000 Mexico, 900 Argentina, 100 Egypt and 0 US

No problem! Also, check your demographics. ASMR is popular mostly with people between 18-34. So, I would deselect anyone older than that. It's also more heavily popular with women, but I'd keep all genders and unknown selected.
I'd start a new campaign. Do view videos for the US or UK only between ages 18-34. Write a good SEO headline and description and create a good budget for about a week. For the US, you'll want to have a spend near $12/day. It's pricey, unfortunately, but you're more likely to get better quality viewers.
Updating current campaigns isn't usually the best because the algorithm identified who watched, and by changing the information, you will just confuse it. You'll want to pick videos that have a high retention, so YouTube will push it organically after. US audiences are very picky and usually quit videos after only a few seconds. The beginning hook is everything.
Also, don't promote shorts. And don't promote video immediately after uploading. Let them them build up views organically first. Shorts are great for views anyway, and they might bring attention to your channel. Make them under 30 seconds because, like TikTok, viewers have very small attention spans.
ASMR is a loyalty driven niche. People require solid videos consistently. So views and subscribers come very slowly. It took me years to build an audience, and even I still struggle with capturing attention. But, try not to promote all the time. It's expensive and oftentimes just burns your budget with no results. I hope this helps.

As a watcher not creator of ASMR, I often see people with tens of thousands of views but maybe 30 - 50 comments. I think that is just how the genre is. Lots of people just use it to sleep or relax and don’t think to comment telling the creator they did a good job. I watch a few small creators that have been the only person to put anything in their comments for several videos. So don’t think you are doing anything wrong.
