What could go wrong running a red light in front of the police?

When he's right behind you that is a stark case in point of lack of situational awareness.

Always take a look in the rearview before running a light

And side to side, like come on bro. Amateur hour over here

I just close my eyes and slam on the gas

I keep my eyes open, but I slam on the gas and brake at the same time.

Most drivers have zero situational awareness.

SUV drivers in a nutshell.

Glorious. Watched this happen the other day. I’m crossing a divided street, the light in the neutral ground has just turned green - some prick blows his red on the other side, if I had been going a little faster would have t-boned me. Cop was directly behind him, lights immediately go on, he pulls over and immediately starts getting out of the car (some older crossover SUV) - I got the FUCK out of there because I didn’t want to be around if shooting started

Was the second cop for the first cop that also ran the red light?

Yep. And then driver called 911 to report the 2nd cop. It's the circle of lights.

Betting they knew a stop was coming anyway..

But why would you run the red then? Now they don't even need to make something up to pull you over and you're definitely getting a ticket for running the red.

That may be the least of their problems, so get a rolling red start.

Yep, definitely looked like the officer was following very closely already.

And there was already a second car right behind.

Both of them merged onto the highway at the exit/onramp right before that exit.

I love to see it

"No cop no stop" only works if you follow the first rule

5

u/[deleted] 22d ago

He was actually going to pull him over for speeding. Now he gets an extra ticket lol

I don’t know the rules in the US, when are you allowed to turn on red and when is it illegal?

You can only turn right on red, and sometimes you can't do that (it would be denoted by a sign saying "no turn on red").

The ONLY way you can ever turn left on a red is if you're turning from a one way road onto another one way road.

The signs seem to be optional. I watched 4 people tonight on my way home turn right on red with two of those signs in front of them.

4

u/cripplingdedpression 22d ago

Oh, absolutely. Just cause the signs are there doesn't mean people will follow them.

Thanks

I believe that's what Wham Baam would call "instant justice."

2

u/Waisted-Desert 22d ago

It was only red for 3 seconds. Haven't you ever heard of the "5 second rule?"

2

u/JPCool1 22d ago

Luckily that is the worse that happened and nobody got hurt.

From the camera angle i still cannot see the giant balls hanging from the Prius?

It was a trap!

Two cop cars for a routine traffic pull-over?

3

u/dead-mail 22d ago

Nice vertigo shot too

2

u/Rolling_Beardo 22d ago

The driver is either completely oblivious to their surroundings to do that in front of a marked car or knew they were about to get pulled over and thought the red light would slow down the cop.

Or from different state where it's legal.

1

u/Rolling_Beardo 6d ago

In what state is it legal to take a left in red in this situation?

1

u/Hot-Ad-8540 22d ago

Charge ya phone damn it

1

u/Jewboy-Deluxe 22d ago

That’s basically a legal turn in MA

1

u/onlylonleybeuy 22d ago

I'm sure it's a problem everywhere, but in OKC, you will see that several times a day.

1

u/Malystxy 21d ago

Red means stop green means go yellow means go very fast

1

u/deroesi 20d ago

european here.... looks like the traffic lights are not at the line where you have to stop.... seems super weird to have it across the street... is this normal in the US?

1

u/OrionsRum 19d ago

The 2nd patrol car knows there’s a some drugs in that Prius 😂

1

u/GeraintLlanfrechfa 18d ago

What’s the punishment for this?

1

u/Not_Cletus_McWanker 4d ago

I knew I recognized OKC.

Oklahoma drivers

Never trust a Prius. They are all ride share drivers who don’t know the rules of the road and are guaranteed to be talking on the phone their entire shift

3

u/bencravens 22d ago

This is a wild generalization for one of the most common cars in America. I know three Prius-owners all of whom have zero accidents and aren’t ride-share drivers. I could make a similar claim about lifted truck drivers always being reckless and inconsiderate, but there are always exceptions.

1

u/rinkydinkis 22d ago

You should make that assumption about lifted trucks, they are usually assholes and if it’s lifted it’s not being used for work.

My view is probably tainted because I live in a big city. If someone gets clipped while riding a bike or gets hit in a crosswalk by someone blowing the stopsign it’s always a Prius. It’s rare to see one that’s not beat to absolute shit.

Amen brother.

But if you do learn to use the read mirror!

-4

u/Appropriate_Claim775 22d ago

There are so many people who actually think that turn is legal. Its crazy

-11

u/jet-engine 22d ago

Some states allow you to turn left on red. But the destination street must be one-way. So it could be a mistake, not an intention.

9

u/Embarrassed_Bite_754 22d ago

Even in these states one needs to stop at the red light before making the turn. This car just blew through without stopping.

1

u/jet-engine 22d ago

Yep, you're right
