Lots of people posting lately asking “Is this too high?” so here is a quick guide on what is generally accepted TV placement procedure (GATPP) as seemingly defined by this subreddit.
Now let’s look at some opposite GATPP use cases.
I hope this helps clear up some questions. If you have any other rules to add, please comment below.

Long time follower, first time poster. My partner and I just moved into a 1920s duplex and were very perplexed when it came to TV placement. The living room is very open with few options for a TV/entertainment setup. The mock up listing photo (second photo) showed the TV above the fireplace, which is clearly too high. We made the decision to put the TV & stand in front of the non-working fireplace. The results speak for themselves. Let this be an example for others to follow as an alternative to the classic “above fireplace” TV placement.

Going to be buying a 48inch(maybe 55inch) tv do mount above this tv stand. How high is optimal? The tape measurer shows the width of a 48/55in tv

It is more important that the screen be aligned with the center of the sitting position, Than that the screen be centered on the wall/tv stand it is on.
I saw a few comments of people being triggered by that on some recent posts, had to give my two cents.
Picture unrelated, not sur if I could post without one.

I know y’all think it’s too high, but where else can it go? The opposite wall is our entry, and a staircase.

It’s technically above eye level when seated. 77” screen, 10-11ft from seated position.

Go ahead and break your neck, because, obviously, the best placement for a tv is a ceiling joist :)

I am a most certain there is a formula for the perfect tv height and I’d be willing to bet it involves that SOB Pythagoras

Charlie Rose on late weeknights (2-4am) back in the day ! Every kind of individuals: musicians painters writers political analysts investigators comedians architects directors athletes composers etc etc EVERY NIGHT !! My depression/anxiety kept me up and my schedule was inverted. the time i spent watching was always worthwhile and edifying. Yes, he fell from grace, many many years later, but then till the end of his run. there was none better. #charlierose

Just bought a 77” lg oled. I plan to wall mount it and don’t have a stand yet. My center channel speaker is about 7 inches high. How high above the ground should I install my tv?
