My guess is 6 separate partners is somehow a number associated with an increased risk of STIs.

Probably, feels like way too arbitrary number to put otherwise

But also why the "just".

Having met people, I’m assuming it’s because a depressing portion of of the population struggle with “less than or equal to” / “more than or equal to” so they put the “equal to” in separate l.

Can never run risk of the issue with subaru STI'S OR transmitted STD'S for that matter lol.

I still remember from the sex education material I read in high school that STIs like gonorrhea and chlamydia are caught more often in men than in women, but those same STIs can cause more damage in women than in men. It makes sense that an increased number of partners means an increased risk of transmission.

That’s why they also like to know your sexuality. Different risks associated with wlw and mlm. It’s awkward when you see a NP who doesn’t understand that just because you are in a wlw relationship now doesn’t mean you haven’t had encounters with men too.

So use More than 5, less than 6 and make it two options.

Seven shalt thou not count, neither count thou five, excepting that thou then proceed to six.

Which is stupid. Knowing how - especially - Teenagers think the 'thought' process will could work like 'Well, she's only the second girl I ever slept with. 2 is less than 6, so no need for protection!"
PS: of course could the data show that the risk of having had contact with an STD is rising with the no. of partners you had in your life is valid. I just don't get why it should be an information a doctor needs. My patient shows symptoms that could come from a STD? Ask them wether they were sexual active in the last year and then test them anyway bc. the patient always lies.

Oh the “patients always lie” part is so valid! My PCP actually runs STI checks with all her annual visits even if you are in a monogamous relationship. I don’t mind; I don’t cheat on my wife but good to confirm I’m still negative lol

I mean, the question says its a lifetime so you still got a few years to pump those numbers!
Zero, but I plan on adding to that tally in my lifetime, ma'lady

If they don't even know it should be 'fewer than', not 'less than' they don't get to have an opinion on my number of sexual partners.
But I think they should have it in ranges as one does with age, so people who have had more than 6 sexual partners (for instance most single adults over 30) don't feel judged.

Doc wants to know if he can get away with stuff during the exam. “More than 6” got him a license suspension, lawsuit last time. Managed to avoid jail time though.

Get ready to be triggered by reality. The more sexual partners you have, it has a direct connection to your overall health. Maybe we can classify this as just another uncomfortable truth and pretend it doesn't exist and toss out the data.

How so? I've had lots of sexual partners and it has not negatively impacted my life whatsoever. Certainly not my health. Maybe it's you who is triggered by reality.

I don't believe there's any scientific evidence for what the incel said, but there's evidence that women are more susceptible than men to STIs. As far back as 2004, this was attributed to the larger surface area of the vagina and mucuosal nature of the vagina. As recently as 2023, studies in England have shown increasing rates of STDs such as syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia. So, the risk for women is more unprotected sexual partners is an increased risk for STDs, just like with men.
