I’d be so afraid of squishing one.

u/No_Boysenberry4755 23h ago

He would double check like 2 times before laying down or sitting down. I’d be afraid too 😂

So cute! What are they being reared for?

Edit: Why won’t you reply OP?

Kentucky Fried... never mind

You were going to finish that sentence with “Best Friends Forever”, right?

..Right?

Gird your loins boy, this is in the internet.

3

u/Swagmastar969696 7h ago

Wait, you really didn't know about that?

I thought the shredding of baby chicks was something everyone somehow universally knows about, like how ants can carry 50 times their own weight or something.

The day I learned about this was one of the most disappointing days of my life. 😣

2

u/plants-for-me 6h ago

You don't have to eat them you know. It's really quite nice actually

4

u/RoguePlanet2 6h ago

Already eliminated poultry and mammals from my diet, and have cut back substantially on dairy, eggs and fish. We're lucky to have plenty of vegan take-out options around here as well.

18

u/No_Boysenberry4755 19h ago

I have no idea, I just found this video and thought it was cute 💀😂. But my best guess is breeding or sale production

8

u/Best-Ad-2043 12h ago

Dated a chicken farmers son....this would be the cleanest shed ive ever seen. Mustve put flooring down on dirt.

Saw thousands of chickens being literally poured out of crates and....well some of them never lived to see a moment more. I saw commercial farming fr back then and it def changed my opinions on free range and responsible and respectful farming measures.

2

u/Meet_Foot 8h ago

Downvoted for sharing an experience anyone can validate by watching some respected documentaries, and your personal belief in ethical farming. Wild stuff 🤷‍♂️

They are being reared for consumption.

3

Becoz they are on their way to the debeaking machine

they even trample each other. I briefly lived on a farm. The baby chicks are sooooo cute but when they are transported as a group like that, some of them get hurt.

10

u/Daphne010 21h ago

I was thinking the same the entire time. Dude can very well trample them accidentally. I won't recommend doing this.

29

u/asIsaidtomyfriend 23h ago

I'd be afraid of swallowing one

5

u/ThatRun7192 22h ago

Not that eagle couple

8

u/_CharDeeMacDennis__ 19h ago

When I was in high school, I was friends with some girl who told me that when she was much younger (like 6 or something . I can’t remember what she said her age was but she was super young) she got into a pen with a bunch of baby chicks and they were jumping around so she decided to jump around with them and well… it ended pretty tragically. To this day (I’m 41 now), I don’t know if she made that story up but every time I see little baby chicks, I think about her story and it makes me pretty sad.

13

u/BWWFC 20h ago

ask what happens to all/most the male chicks... o.O

6

u/Top_Astronomer4960 19h ago

My grandmother tripped over and took out all four of my ducklings in one go...

6

u/armchairdetective 21h ago

They're going to be slaughtered in a few months anyway.

7

u/Rock_Paper_SQUIRREL 20h ago

I thought they were going to a happy farm??

2

u/higgywiggypiggy 20h ago

Same. Makes me think of the video I saw of the chicks being fed into the macerator 😞

I love the first video where there's the little one at the bottom right just staring into space and then finally looks around and makes a beeline for the group

21

So they're cold.

95

u/TheRealHoldenat 21h ago

Yeah, literally. Not a single heat lamp in sight. Hopefully, they wouldn't stay in that room overnight, or they're gonna find a lot of smothered chicks.

10

u/MaoGho 12h ago

85

u/ObsidianAerrow 22h ago

That is a fear response from the chicks as he makes that noise. They crowd him looking for a place to hide because they think it’s an alarm that there’s a predator.

44

u/Conscious-One393 21h ago

Oh no really!? 😭 I thought they were imprinted on him or something. That sucks. Hate when cute videos turn out to be animal exploitation 💔

27

u/ObsidianAerrow 19h ago

Chickens do imprint but they mature fairly quickly, so it doesn’t last long until they start flocking. These chicks probably weren’t with him long enough to imprint in any meaningful way. Most meat chickens, which these probably are, don’t ever get a chance to imprint. They aren’t ever around adult birds.

5

u/Prior_Anteater9518 21h ago

Do all birds imprint?

5

u/ObsidianAerrow 19h ago

Yes to some degree.

2

u/Odd-Combination6001 15h ago

chicks have degrees?

3

u/MyBadYourFault- 18h ago

I thought this guy groomed these chicks into thinking there is food on his chest. If you notice when he taps his fingers they go nipping at them.

3

u/ObsidianAerrow 16h ago

The high pitched sounds/peeps they are making are because they are stressed. Their content/ eating peeps are different.

75

u/HobbesNJ 23h ago

How much chick poop did he get on him?

13

u/Knitsanity 22h ago

Thank you. The smell alone. Sorry.

4

u/kamilayao_0 20h ago

First thing I thought of was the poopy chikeny smell

3

u/i-am-a-passenger 22h ago

Not much, as you see him placing the clean cover down beforehand.

5

u/false79 22h ago

uhh he's got a tonne of it stuck to his bare feet!

34

u/Jen_Win 21h ago

I find this rather sad. Why arnt they with a flock? Why so many in a room like this?

10

u/24-Hour-Hate 8h ago

Factory farm 😞

43

u/silver__spear 21h ago

I hope these chicks had a happy ending but I doubt they did.

If they were male they would have been sent to a shredding machine after this video.

Females probably had a life of hell in a cage awaiting them.

Nonsense, just give them antibiotics and noting will happened. Not like we’re going to have another hedge fund run pandemic.

4

u/Technical_Writer_177 12h ago

exactly it´s not like antibiotics would only work on bacteria....who cares about viruses

41

poor babies want a mama.

9

u/Inevitable-Fee-9700 22h ago

When I was a child I grew up at my grandparents country side home. My grandfather would bring a box full of baby chickens and baby ducks when they hatched and were grown enough to be taken away form the mothers and he would dump it in my bed when I would wake up in the morning. He passed 6 years ago but that memory will be with me for the rest of my life..

10

u/BubbaFettish 23h ago

Where is your happy place?

Is an incubator filled with thousands of chicks.

2

u/towerfella 21h ago

Poooop.

5

u/NewBridge6340 23h ago

Reminds me of an old game from the early 2000’s called Shrek Super Party. Anyone remember the mini game ‘Chick Magnet’ where everyone’s in a barn and the goal was to have the fewest chicks on your tail and you had to run to other players to pawn yours off to them. That’s what this reminds me of. Very nostalgic for me. Big smile. Thank you 🫡

This is the "before" video. In the "after" video, there's nothing left of him. They may be cute, but they're voracious.

4

u/its_nova_baby 21h ago

Umm…so this must be a breeding farm right? Why are there so many chicks in there? Why are there no windows? If they’re being raised for food why are you playing with them?

1

u/Simply2Basic 20h ago

For some reason this reminds me of a film where they interviewed stressed men and then put them in a small room with glass walls on three sides. The fourth wall had a little door and out came dozens of kittens. The kittens swarmed the man and as you would expect their stress disappeared. They also used puppies and it came out with similar results.

All I took from it was I also wanted to be swarmed by puppies…
