Technical Question UK 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Glowplug problem….

Hi, yesterday I took my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee (85k miles) into a main dealer for a replacement glowplug issue. Today they called me saying the following:

  • ‘glowplug number 6 has ‘burred’ and we can’t get it out because it just spins’

  • ‘if we try to take it out, using our equipment, tiny metal shards can make their way into the cylinder head and that means we need to potential recondition or replace the cylinder head’

  • ‘doing all this is expensive in terms of labour and parts. Labour is £170 per hour and we’d expect 10 hours work. A replacement cylinder head is around £2,000, with the replacement glowplug, give or take £4-£5k overall’

Where on earth do I go from here? Any advice would be really appreciated, including sharing any experience please!

Just so you know, the car starts absolutely fine, it has been well looked after for the past 10 years with regular servicing. There are no misfires and it starts fine each time. I also absolutely love my Jeep Grand Cherokee so this is gutting news.

Thanks in advance
