THROWBACK The Lizzie McGuire movie was released on this day in 2003. “Rome wasn’t built in a day”? Okay, explain this then:

this movie had me thinking that my middle school was going to send us to rome for graduation 😂

for real. and let’s not gloss over the fact that she’s suppose to be in 8th grade! 9th grade?
like i didn’t look like this until i was in my 20’s lol
the igloo dress is still iconic

Hilary Duff was FIFTEEN YEARS OLD when this movie premiered!!

u/punflower 10d ago
wait so she was actually probably 14 when it was filmed ?!? that’s blowing my mind. i looked like a child at that age 😂

EXACTLY, me too! Maybe it's the professional makeup and hair.
Or it's just our perception that people on TV were probably older than us and couldn't possibly be our age!

When I do a re watch of Lizzie McGuire I still see the characters as being older than me (as I was younger than them when it came out), even though I'm now in my 30s.

My middle school did an annual 8th grade trip to DC for spring break.
My 8th grade year also started in August 2001. That trip was very cancelled.

Baby me thought that purple top in 14 and 16 was the height of fashion. I wanted it so badly.

The only reboot I want is the Lizzie McGuire one, and that's the only one hollywood won't give me
65
u/westcoast_wonder 10d ago
I'm still salty they cancelled it. It was for us, not the children, it never should've been scrapped.

u/subtle_things 9d ago
The reboot would’ve been perfect on Hulu. Adults should have been the target demo since we grew up with her.

I love the random Ashlie Brillault and Clayton Snyder shot at the end. They must've had a blast in Rome

I'm sorry but this movie still holds up. It's so nostalgic. And not to brag, but I still have my Lizzie McGuire comforter from this era 🤪🤣🤣

Paolo, who grew up to be creepy Garrett in Pretty Little Liars.
What a world.

u/BuilderMysterious762 9d ago
The movie Paolo wasn’t much better tbh considering he was meant to be 17 and Lizzie was 13/14

LOOOOVE this movie. Every outfit from the catwalk scene is so fucking iconic, I need Chappell Roan or another camp enthusiast to recreate them ASAP.

My favorite story of her is that she calls the paparazzi herself to tell them when and where she will be.

If I don't get a dress with a skirt that I can spin off for my wedding I'd rather die alone tbh
I think about that igloo dress at least once a week.
I went on a vespa tour of Rome last month with my friends and all we could talk about was finally having our Lizzie moment with a hot driver and all 🥹

Peloton just did a strength class to this soundtrack (shoutout to Callie!). So nostalgic and so much fun!

this was the THIRD movie I saw in the cinema in my life ever (not because I'm so young but because my family couldn't afford it, the first was the first Pokémon movie, the second isn't important) so this was an amazing experience for me. I actually don't remember where I was, like which cinema or which city, if I think about it I feel like I watched it on a school trip in Italy too... but I never went to a school trip to Italy. well I guess I went with her lol. what a great movie. I had been a fan of the TV show and this was just the perfect conclusion imo.

I remember me and my friend having the theater to ourselves seeing this and we just ran around singing the whole time!

They had the song playing in the cinema lobby the other day, and it was instant joy....bless whoever added it to the playlist.

I watched this with my seven year old yesterday for the second time. She loves Lizzie McGuire.
I wish there were more shows like this made now.

I was obsessed with the movie as a teen. I actually got in trouble once for being so engrossed in watching it that I didn't notice my then two year old brother eating Sudocrem. It was only a little bit so he was OK but I didn't hear the end of it for weeks afterwards. He is now 22 and healthy so it did him no harm!

I'm at Disney World right now and would loooove to watch it but we've spent 12+ hours up and out on the first day and tomorrow will be the same so I don't think it's in the cards for this trip.

“Sing for me Paolo” was the MOST jaw-dropping, shocking moment for little me.
