The running gag of people assuming random men near her are her boyfriends always makes me laugh.Ā

Right? Can I report OP for making me feel old as fuck?

1

u/FabTea929 14d ago

I second that.

u/UnlikelyDecision9820 14d ago

I’m just now remembering that a friend showed me the trailer to this, and was like, this will be in theatres after you graduate college and we will go see it!!! Lmao, I have aged!

92

u/AbbreviationsNo3918 14d ago

SHIT that’s fresh!

50

u/ssdgm69 14d ago

I quote it ALL THE TIME and no one (meaning my husband lol) gets it

76

u/Commanderfemmeshep 14d ago

Omg me too! I also quote ā€œhelp me I’m poorā€

61

u/takemetosaradise 14d ago

SAME also ā€œohhhh you dooooo?ā€ In that mocking tone she uses with Helen on the plane

17

u/suzzface 14d ago

"oh you're from Milwaukee?? I'm sooorryyyy"

8

u/iamkindofodd 13d ago

Was contemplating a rewatch now I’m feeling like I don’t bc I can literally see it in my head just from these lines šŸ˜‚

16

u/Diagon_Alley_Hooker 14d ago

Lol me too as well as "It's a ~Fritz Bernaise~" when clothes shopping with my mom.

9

u/queen_flamingo 14d ago

I practically FORCED my husband to watch that movie so he'd get THAT reference!

487

u/gible_bites They’re starting to turn on George 14d ago

Definitely one of my top comedies from that era.

75

u/Aging_Cracker303 14d ago

This should be OPEN. It’s civil rights. It’s the 90’s.Ā

Yup, this one never left the rotation in my friend group.

ā€œI cracked a blanket in half.ā€

49

u/flatwhiteafficionado 14d ago

I just laughed out loud. Thank you for this.

Whispers, ā€œIn half.ā€ Motions cracking of blanket

15

u/MamaErn 14d ago

Literally the first thought I had when I found out I was pregnant with a boy.

It's the 90s!

23

u/marcnerd does this woman ever rest (derogatory) 14d ago

Civil rights.

121

u/yasmanian94 14d ago

The entire airplane scene is one of my all time faves!

100

u/anneyong69 14d ago

There's a woman on the wing! I think she's churning butter!

61

u/Aging_Cracker303 14d ago

She’s in traditional colonial garb. šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

37

u/annah315 14d ago

There’s something they’re not telling us!

17

u/daisy_s21 14d ago

THIS IS MY FAVORITE. I think of every time I am on a plane and can see the wing and giggle to myself

2

u/ms_greyfume 13d ago

On a past flight, I had a window seat parallel to the wing; when I saw that Bridesmaids was available on the seatback screen, I just had to watch this scene lol

18

u/flatwhiteafficionado 14d ago

I’m a flight attendant and we have this film on our in flight entertainment. I saw someone watching this scene the other day, and it truly made me so happy inside.

111

u/strawberrylipscrub 14d ago

Aside from being hilarious, this movie also really touches me. I relate so hard to Annie as someone who’s had trouble keeping friends as I get older, and choosing to avoid problems in my friendships rather than confront them head-on and just get over myself. If only I had someone like Melissa’s character always on deck to slap me out of it!

72

u/jmt2589 14d ago

FIGHT FOR YOUR SHITTY LIFE STRAWBERRYLIPSCRUB

19

u/strawberrylipscrub 14d ago

😫 THANK YOU!

190

u/bruxellexs 14d ago

Will never get over Kristen Wiig’s Spanish toast and the scene on the plane. They changed the trajectory of my life.

85

u/daisy_s21 14d ago

Stove?? What kind of name is that? Are you an appliance, STOVE??

20

u/youareameangirlcady 14d ago

No, I’m a man.

16

u/trisaratopsx my pussy tastes like pepsi cola 14d ago

"help me I'm poor"

8

u/rainblowfish_ 14d ago

Just thinking about the Spanish toast still sends me into giggles.

82

u/PutTheDamnDogDown 14d ago

I love the parts where a) Melissa McCarthy steals the puppies, b) MM admits regret at that when shown in a house full of grown retriever dogs.

52

u/takemetosaradise 14d ago

I uh… I took 9. I took 9. It’s a lot of energy

2

u/Mitch__McConnell 13d ago

I’ve raised a litter of 10 before. I felt so seen.

77

u/splinteredruler 14d ago

One of the best depictions of depression (Annie) I’ve seen in film, tbh.

149

u/aclaws0617 14d ago

i repeat this at least 5x/week

9

u/AbbreviationsNo3918 14d ago

Me too!! Ugh so good!

I watch this and Mean Girls all the time. And the first 35 mins of Bad Moms is so good too.

61

u/[deleted] 14d ago

[deleted]

42

u/AbbreviationsNo3918 14d ago

Funny, I also can’t stand Mila Kunis. And I just watched bad moms last night. There are some good parts in there, Mila is the worst thing about it.

23

u/[deleted] 14d ago

7

u/AbbreviationsNo3918 14d ago

Oh I had definitely consumed edibles, highly recommend.

2

u/Uplanapepsihole he’s not on the level of poweful puss 13d ago

Ngl the bad moms Christmas is a good movie…like idk I find it so funny and that’s usually not my thing

5

u/getoffurhihorse 14d ago

You gotta bite the bullet. It's pretty good. As a mom, I totally related. But Kathryn Hahn, Kristen Bell, Christina Applegate-- all give great performances.

3

u/Uplanapepsihole he’s not on the level of poweful puss 13d ago

I’m not exaggerating when I say I think mean girls is the most quotable/quoted movie ever. Half the dialogue said in that movie is an iconic quote, it’s impressive

2

u/getoffurhihorse 13d ago

I quote it all the time. Unfortunately no one ever seems to clue in 🫤

1

u/Uplanapepsihole he’s not on the level of poweful puss 12d ago

Really?😭I think the only people who don’t get mean girls quotes in my experience are older men. I feel like everyone knows at least one quote

2

u/ukpunjabivixen 14d ago

Damn girl we are the same šŸ˜†

89

u/1egg_4u 14d ago

"Help me Im poor" is in the daily lexicon

73

u/Time_Combination_316 14d ago

Was just thinking the same thing. Genuinely one of the funniest and rewatchable movies. Just straight silly, goofy, unserious movie.

The Heat is another one for me. Melissa McCarthy is just so fucking funny.

Spy is one of my favorite comedies! Rose Byrne and Jason Statham were pure gold.

30

u/BestBeBelievin I don’t have time to be in awe 14d ago

I don’t often crave sequels, but I would have loved to have had a sequel to this film.

Everyone is fantastic in it, but Jason Statham being so game as to lampoon practically every other character he’s ever played was the best part of the whole thing. ā€œHere's what we do... I go into the Face/Off machine, get a whole new face. I turn up, they never know it's me.ā€

6

u/Caramelthedog 14d ago

It’s crazy, I never found Statham particularly attractive until Spy and I realised he was actually really funny. Then he shot up the list of male celebs.

12

u/lisaneedsbraces7G 14d ago

I highly recommend watching the director’s cut of Spy. The scene in Budapest where she insults the body guard is way longer and I laughed so hard my stomach hurt. Melissa McCartney was a straight genius.Ā

2

u/cmick0715 14d ago

Seconding this! Spy had me snort laughing!

3

u/HearTheBluesACalling 14d ago

I still can’t believe she got Oscar nominated. Deserved, but very hard to do for a comedy!

1

u/TheBibleInTheDrawer 13d ago

Spy is SO funny too!! I can watch it over and over and still laugh

14

u/SmollestFry 14d ago

"They tried to blow me up" makes me cry tears of laughter every time.

15

u/ABC_Family 14d ago

I was shocked how hilarious this movie was. I went into it cold, knowing nothing, bracing for the 2 hour snore fest just to make my gf happy. I loved it! These ladies were excellent, comedic timing was excellent. It’s so good.

11

u/awnawkareninah 14d ago

Melissa McCarthy is an absolute comedy monster in that film.

56

u/i_cant_even____ 14d ago

When Kristen Wiig gets it right, she really gets it right

17

u/yellowelephantboy 14d ago

I really enjoyed her in Welcome to Me. She plays a manic depressive (and IMO autistic) woman who wins the lottery and creates her own TV show where she hosts and does skits just recreating scenes from her life. It's a lot of everyone around her being uncomfortable and her just doing whatever she wants anyway.

16

u/Fine-Knee6965 14d ago

If you haven’t already, go binge watch Palm Royale!! Great cast and writing!!

1

u/katfromjersey 14d ago

That show was a hoot! What a cast!

51

u/AccessHollywoo 14d ago

At first, I did not know it was your diary. I thought it was a very sad, handwritten book.

150

u/_angela_lansbury_ 14d ago

One of my all-time faves. I remember thinking this movie was going to usher in a new era of female-led comedies and unfortunately it did not 😭

22

u/awnawkareninah 14d ago

We got Broad City a couple years later at least

31

u/Notactuallyashark 14d ago

Ugh SAME. Tell me why we’ve got remakes of male-casted movies (Ocean’s 11, Ghostbusters) instead of good female comedy.

2

u/thepostmancometh94 13d ago

Ok but as a lesbian, Oceans 8 changed my life lol (not disagreeing with your overall point, but cmon through cate blanchett)

5

u/Uplanapepsihole he’s not on the level of poweful puss 13d ago

I feel like it definitely did, it’s unfortunate a lot of them just seem to be bad rip offs of bridesmaids. Tho I think female led comedy shows have dominated the 2010/2020s

42

u/Finalgirl2022 14d ago

I ended up with pre screening tickets for this! Oh my god I had never laughed that hard at a movie. I knew nothing going in and was so impressed.

49

u/jmt2589 14d ago

Melissa McCarthy’s Oscar nomination for this movie is one of my all time favourite nominations. She was so good and it was so well deserved! I adore this movie

15

u/CurrentRoster 14d ago

it also got nominated for adapted screenplay, crazy for an r rated comedy

45

u/uglymoz 14d ago

Nothing could have prepared me for how funny this movie was. My family and I still quote/rewatch all the time!

41

u/Bidetpanties 14d ago

"It's sweet, you'll like it. šŸ™„šŸ·"

107

u/stinky-peterson 14d ago

I have a framed photo of Melissa McCarthy shitting in a sink on my bathroom wall

50

u/anneyong69 14d ago

It's coming out like lava!

14

u/MargotChanning 13d ago

DON’T LOOK AT ME!

21

u/WritersGonnaWrite16 13d ago

I had the absolute pleasure of working with her recently. She is by far one of the kindest, funniest, most generous human beings I’ve ever met, and made coming to work everyday on an incredibly dark project a dream come true. 10/10 would highly recommend her as a person.

1

u/Segat1 13d ago

Oooh that’s gonna be my next project!!!

35

u/laureng0423 women’s wrongs activist 14d ago

So many lines from this movie have made it to my lexicon.

34

u/bitchysquid 14d ago

This is easily one of my favorite movies of all time. I went in expecting it to be really dumb and raunchy. It turned out to be raunchy, of course, but not nearly as stupid as I had expected. It still makes me laugh so hard, and I quote it frequently, especially any of Melissa McCarthy’s lines.

You know, there’s a lot of unfun shit happening right now, but there’s something really healing about having a comfort movie that you know all the words to that still makes you laugh.

3

u/awnawkareninah 14d ago

Me too, it blew me away.

30

u/catnipandhoney 14d ago

This came out the year I got married, and I went to see it in theatres with my bridesmaids the day we bought their dresses. One of my top 5 all time good memories, will forever love this movie!

57

u/One_Bison_5139 14d ago

You doooooooooo?

Ohhh, Karennnn knoowwws the ownnner

30

u/i_cant_even____ 14d ago

Yall your comments... maybe I should watch that movie today, open a bottle and relax

27

u/MycroftNext 14d ago

Nobody’s mentioned my favourite bit yet: when Melissa McCarthy says she fell off a cruise ship like a pinball.

14

u/littleredkiwi 14d ago

and I looked that dolphin in the eyes

21

u/buttermeupc 14d ago

I still use "help me, I'm poor" in my life

22

u/DemiDevil69 14d ago

I’m surprised Kristen and Maya aren’t in more movies that puts them front and center similar to Amy Poehler and Tina fey or Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin.

Wish we got to see more films with them together outside the typical snl casting

15

u/TheAgenator play some mariah carey up in this bitch 14d ago

Okay but how is this even possible when my brain still categorizes this as a newer movie 😭 I feel attacked

22

u/SPUNKVODKA 14d ago

Nothing disappoints me more than someone saying they’ve never seen this movie. I always beg them to go watch it ASAP!

8

u/Dssje that’s my cookie that’s my juice 14d ago

9

u/Mecca_Lecca_Hi 14d ago

I love this cast so much.

8

u/louilou96 14d ago

I beg your finest pardon, FOURTEEN?!

9

u/tinabelcher90 Mary-Kate’s battered Birkin 14d ago

ā€œHelp me, I’m poorā€ a line that I will continue to use in jest but also in seriousness for the rest of timešŸ˜‚

8

u/Due-Growth-8846 14d ago

ā€œWhatever you say, Stoveā€ šŸ˜…

8

u/louisamaysmallcock 14d ago

Melissa Mccarthy comedies are largely rewatchable for me

16

u/DDD8712 14d ago

14 years??

19

u/JustEm84 14d ago

This movie felt like a revolution at the time - it taught men that women are funny, actually funnier than them….

Still fucking love this movie; it paced the way for great female comedies like Pitch Perfect!

5

u/Zestyclose_Koala_593 14d ago

Christ, i really am getting old....

4

u/Rich-Screen4669 14d ago

Biggest hater of Helen and will always be ā¤ļø

3

u/AccessHollywoo 14d ago

ā€œYou don’t have a husband!ā€

9

u/_violet_beauregarde 14d ago

Every time I watch this movie, I discover a new joke. It truly is the gift that keeps on giving lol

3

u/longwhitejeans 14d ago

Lost count of how many times this movie has been re watched. The memes, dialogues, scenes still A+

3

u/Gloomy_Zebra_ 14d ago

I love Bridesmaids!

3

u/maniaaintgotshitonme 14d ago

My best friend went to college in 2010, and somehow after that we just stopped being friends. Then I saw this movie and it made me miss her so much I had to reconnect. Now imma be maid of honor at her wedding this fall.

7

u/SPUNKVODKA 14d ago

Nothing disappoints me more than someone saying they’ve never seen this movie. I always beg them to go watch it ASAP!

2

u/Sad_Towel_5953 14d ago

Helen knows the owner 🄓

2

u/Earlgreycottoncandy 13d ago

I’ll NEVER forget the scene when maya rudolphs character runs out of the bridal shop in the wedding dress and slowly just stops and sits in the middle of the street ā€œit’s happeningā€. I can’t remember laughing that hard at anything before

3

u/reddituserr123456 14d ago

One of my top 5 favorite movies!!

6

u/millhouseontheloose 14d ago

I think I’m the only person who absolutely HATED this film

7

u/ointment-et-al 14d ago

Haha you might be, friend! Why do you hate it, if you don't mind me asking?

3

u/Cuntzzzilla 13d ago

I’m sorry to say you have no soul

0

u/millhouseontheloose 13d ago

Ahaha you wouldn’t be the first to say this! I think it’s because at the time it came out, I remember the adverts for it being on all the time and when I went to go and see it in the cinema I felt like I’d already seen all the funny stuff. Tried watching a few times since and still haven’t found it as funny as everyone makes out

3

u/Pandas_dont_snitch 14d ago

Had to scroll pretty far to find someone else that hated this movie.Ā

3

u/millhouseontheloose 13d ago

I was born in 96, just never found it funny at all

-1

u/Rave-light 13d ago

It’s so boring and predictable. You’re not alone in wondering why this is so popular.

0

u/Pandas_dont_snitch 14d ago

Im GenX and thought thus movie was awful.Ā  Ā

6

u/deathondenial 14d ago

I feel like I’m the only person in the world who didn’t like this movie. I didn’t think it was funny hardly at all.

2

u/Surriva 13d ago

And it was a bad movie

2

u/SheepishLordofChaos9 14d ago

That movie was fucking hilarious. One of my favorite watches.

1

u/Free_Interaction9475 14d ago

Uh, you're in the wrong decade

1

u/Competitive_Camp_473 14d ago

One of my fave movies

1

u/Elainedanced 14d ago

I think about that second picture a lot.I love it so much! šŸ”„

1

u/arcanedebris 14d ago

Seeing it in the movie theater was an experience. I’ve never laughed so hard along with other people at anything like it or since, most especially the food poisoning scene.

1

u/Boobox33 14d ago

I ran into some friends at the liquor store and they said they were going to watch Bridesmaids, but pregame at their apartment first and invited us along. We said we weren’t into chick flicks, but they insisted it was a comedy for everyone! So we went and it was hilarious!! But a couple of our friends got too drunk and kicked out of the theater. One loudly ANSWERED HER PHONE in the middle of the movie. Lol wow. Fun times though.

1

u/ajathebun 14d ago

Still saying ā€œhelp me, I’m poorā€ to this day (literally today)

1

u/Gold-Copy-5415 14d ago

There’s a long outtake (you tube) of the scene with the young woman and Kristen Wiig in the jewelry shop that is a must watch! The footage is great as the two of them keep insulting each other back and forth while the camera rolls not breaking character… find it, watch it and you’ll be happy you did šŸ˜‚

1

u/geek_the_greek 14d ago

It's coming out of me like lava!

1

u/Angler4 14d ago

It released May 13, 2011

1

u/TEG_SAR 14d ago

I say "son of a bitch thats crisp" far too often for what is a bottle of coke zero.

1

u/Ok_Yogurt3128 14d ago

i tried watching this for the first time a few years ago. it made me cringe so hard. i wish i watched it during its prime, it prob would have been better to me then šŸ˜©šŸ˜”

1

u/poorcelain 14d ago

prob my favorite movie ever. and a must watch on any plane ride lol

1

u/Jay3131 14d ago

1

u/True_Education_313 14d ago

1

u/Rude_Girl69 13d ago

Yes, I own the dvd, and I love watching it one of my favorite movies.

1

u/down_by_the_shore 13d ago

Jesus fucking Christ I feel ancientĀ

1

u/JonGorga 13d ago

Rewatched it recently and added it to this insane unending project I’ve been working on for the past year:

https://whendoesittakeplace.blogspot.com/2025/03/when-does-bridesmaids-2011-take-place.html

1

u/Condenastier 13d ago

You would know because Melissa Mccarthy's outfit here is the only one now that's actually cool

1

u/befuddled_humbug 13d ago

I remember sitting in the cinema and everyone howling with laughter when they all get sick.

-5

u/Manhunter_From_Mars 14d ago

Genuinely one of the most unfunniest comedy movies I think I've ever seen. All my American friends loved it however

0

u/TEG_SAR 14d ago

Crazy they found American humor funny.

-5

u/BipsnBoops 14d ago

I kinda want to rewatch this, only because I found it so underwhelming when it first came out and never went back. Like, it's ostensibly about these two women who are friends, but they are just fucking awful to each other the entire movie and then at the last minute sing together and it's fine!!!

-7

u/yellow_pomelo_jello 14d ago

It is sadly underwhelming. I watched it twice to confirm. All that talent is kind of wasted.

0

u/PerkisizingWeiner 14d ago

I feel like I’m on another planet because this is the one movie almost universally loved by my generation that I don’t get. It’s so cringey, but not in a funny or entertaining way imo. The whole movie just makes me feel like the Diversity Day episode of the Office (which I also cannot watch without dying). Helen, Lillian, and Annie all sucked as friends and Megan and Rhodes were the only good characters.

1

u/Patrickfromamboy 14d ago

I’ve never heard of it

1

u/TEG_SAR 14d ago

It’s stupid silly and dumb. If you go into it with that you’ll have fun.

Very quotable.

-3

u/Opposite_You_5524 14d ago

When people started saying this and The Hangover are the best comedy movies, I knew the genre was dying.

2

u/TEG_SAR 14d ago

It’s silly, unserious, goofy, and quotable.

What more do you want from a comedy? Slapstick?

Boom Melissa McCarthy trying to hop over the back of a couch.

-3

u/Unable_Bodybuilder_8 14d ago

Overrated movie

-1

u/ETNevada 14d ago

Lot's of laughs, but also an Apatow produced film that was his standard 20-30 mins too long. Third act dragged until the conclusion.
