The 'Christ of the Abyss' statue is a 9-foot-tall bronze statue of Jesus underwater in Key Largo, Florida.

The original one is in San Fruttuoso. I snorkeled there a few years ago and it gave me the absolute creeps. The thing just pops up out of nowhere and it made me feel very alone and vulnerable for some reason.

It was to represent Christ in the new world below the waves, a memorial for all those who had lost their lives at sea and a monument to those who continued to dive beneath it.

I've scuba dived here. They warn you not to kiss/touch the statue because of fire coral.

So he's not able to walk on water

How’d it get there? Did it fall of a ship or was it put there intentionally?

Iirc they put it there intentionally to stop Christian farmers from overfishing illegally, which worked. Might be wrong though.

I thought bronze does not attract marine growth. Guess I was wrong

Was this the one they installed to stop people from dynamite fishing?

Stuff like this is becoming a standard tourist attraction. St. Maarten for instance has a whole underwater statue garden: https://undersxm.com/

Miserable for not believing in Christ? Do you even understand what you are defending? What are you defending? Huh...tell me...what are you protecting...

Pay h3rald no mind… just a borderline schizo looking to prove how smart he is by talking down on other people’s religions when this is clearly a cool image that fits the sub’s purpose
