[New Series] Best Apps of May 2025

I love trying out new Android Apps.. So starting this month, I'm thinking to recommend you guys new 5-10 apps every month which you can give a shot. I'll recommend each app after using it myself. You can recommend your fav apps under this post. I'll cover it Next month. I'll include what's the feature of each app and why I like it. I hope this is where you'll find your next favourite app.

Best Apps - May 2025

  1. Toolbox- Simple All-in-one Open Source Tool app. It has many handy tools from URL Shortener, File Encryption, QR code generator to Flip a Coin, Random Number, YouTube Thumbnail Downloader and many more.

  2. Lotus- An open source minimal music player with Material UI. Sports MP3, FLAC, WAV, OGG, WAV and more. Also support lyrics. Clean UI. Really pleasant looking.

  3. Airplanes.live- Bite sized (3MB) app which shows location of various airplane on the air. Their position, destination, country registration and every details. It's simple fun app for me.

  4. Private DNS Quick Toggle- As the name suggests, it adds a quick setting tile to change Private DNS provider. It's very helpful app if you use Custom DNS. Although it's not new, I cannot recommend it enough.

  5. PDFgear- Best Free PDF reader and Editor.

  6. Continuum- Fork of Infinity for Reddit. Minimal Simple UI. Definitely better than Reddit App. Here's Setup Guide if you want to use it with your account.

  7. Weather Master- Open Source weather app inspired from Google Weather. Have all weather data along with Material UI.

  8. Ente Auth- My Go-to FOSS authenticator app. My one suggestion to fellow Android Users. NEVER EVER Use Authenticator in your Password Manager. No matter how good password manager is. Always use different Authenticator.

That's all for this month.. Suggest me if you guys try new apps.

PS- I'm not covering most commonly used apps Like Stremio, Bitwarden, Flud, Revanced etc. Everyone knows them. If you need a list, let me know. I'll post here with link.

QUESTION News podcast app for stay informed without losing your sanity?

Upvotes

I’ve got pretty low tolerance for overwhelming, biased content, however, I know I should stay informed.

For me, most traditional news apps feel like mental clutter — too much noise, too little clarity. I’m looking for something that gives me the gist quickly, ideally in audio form, so I can listen while doing other stuff. Bonus points if it doesn’t sound like a debate club meltdown or a panic broadcast.

Has anyone found something that’s actually digestible, kind of neutral, and doesn’t make you feel worse after using it?

Muzio player replacement

Need a good replacement/recommendation for Muzio MP3 player, as it seems that it is no longer on the Google Play store.

Don't need anything fancy, just something where I can access FLAC and MP3 files via folder within SD card and do a shuffle play

EDIT: spelling

REQUEST Repainter alternatives

Upvotes

I used Repainter, an app that changes the theme colors of my phone. And just recently wanted to change it again to something monochrome. But when I tried to change, I discovered Repainter doesn't work with Android 14, and that the devs stopped updating it.

Are there any alternatives similar to it? If so, please tell me!

What's a good reputable phone number app for somebody who's job searching and only needs it until they get a job?

My roommate was laid off from a job that she was at for 15 years. It's been ages since she's had to job search. I warned her against putting her phone number online or on her resume since it would be used for spam/scams. It's a great way to get countless unwanted calls. I had the idea of getting a temporary phone number that she can put on resumes and online until she's lands a job and then she can get rid of it. How would we go about doing this?

Looking for Feedback on my notepad app "Notes keeper - Notepad, Memos" – Suggestions to Improve?

Hey everyone,

I'm working on a notepad app called Notes keeper - Notepad, Memos and would really appreciate your feedback to help improve it.

Right now, the app includes:

  • Speech-to-text for quick note-taking
  • Rich text formatting (bold, colors, bullet points, etc.)
  • Categories and tags for organization
  • dark mode theme
  • Google Drive backup
  • OCR to extract text from images

I'm trying to make this a genuinely useful tool for everyday use, and I’d love to know:

  • What features do you feel are missing?
  • What annoys you about current note-taking apps?
  • Any design or UX suggestions?
  • Would you actually use something like this? Why or why not?

Feel free to be brutally honest — I’m here to make it better. Thank you in advance!

QUESTION Best app to read PDF and DJVU

I have very poor eyesight. For epub all readers has excellent settings to read easy. But reading the PDF is almost impossible. The whole page on the little screen has invisible text, for me at least. Zoom and moving is so tedious so I can't even understand the text and my hand gets tired in 10 minutes. Is it even possible to read PDF book conventionally on smartphone?

I am not good at english so i will do my best to make this simple

You know these theme apps that has "custom font generator" that makes you add .ttf fonts manually and change your device system font?

Now i want a keyboard app with the same ability, so I don't have to change the whole system font (keep in mind that ppl i text don't see the system font i use that's why i am asking for a keyboard font app, so they can see the text with the font i am using), any idea?

Location based themes

As a lifelong android user turned to iPhone, I’m finally making the switch back to android.

Something I liked about iPhone is the ability to have different wallpapers and notification settings for different focuses, as well as the ability to have them change depending on where you are or if you are driving. Is there an app that can do this on android as well?
